OCDB continues to impress

I was hit with a virtual groin kick the other day when I saw something flash across my feed. My worker who I onboarded to Hive just a few short months ago had received a vote from OCD on one of his recent posts.

On top of that, a few other heavy hitters jumped on board and before we knew it he was sitting on a post with rewards over 100.

You can view the post here

I'll be honest, I was immediately hit with a slight pang of jealousy. After all, I have been here for over three years and I don't think I have ever had a post draw in that kind of rewards. Maybe half of that on a good day, but I don't think I have ever broke the 100 mark.

The jealousy was short lived and quickly overtaken with pride. Proud of his accomplishments, proud that I was able to bring someone onto the chain to produce content that others obviously value, proud that I belong to a community with groups like @ocd who use their resources to support the best this chain has to offer.

separator.png

When he started in January, I delegated 1000 HP to @iikrypticsii some people may think that is a bit much, but I wanted to make sure that he had a decent stake to vote with. I wanted him to see the "power" of powering up and curating content.

At this rate, I will likely be pulling the delegation sooner than I had expected.

Especially given the fact that he wrote this post the other day and received another vote from OCDB.

If you aren't familiar with the incubation programs that OCDB is running, you need to check them out. As long as you are writing quality content, you have a really good chance of getting some recognition. There is a wide ranging list of communities that they support all via manual curation.

There are a vast number of community incubation projects. We have seen many that were a bit sus. Vote buying and things of that sort can really ruin the reputation of something that was created with the best of intentions (or not).

Then there are the others that rise above the rest. @curangel, @curie, and most importantly @ocd.

I hope this post doesn't sound self serving. That isn't my intent. That's another reason why what is happening with my worker and OCD makes me so proud. I had literally nothing to do with his success beyond getting him on the chain.

When we talked about him joining, he wasn't sure about writing long form content. It took him a couple of months to find the perfect communities for his interests and hobbies.

And now he is flourishing.

I feel like I have been all over the map and at this time you are probably wondering what is the point of this post?

I just want to thank OCDB/OCD (I never know which one to use) and what they do for the community(ies) on Hive and it's various tribes. Curating and supporting others can be a thankless job. Their efforts are greatly appreciated. I know at lest one person who agrees with me :)

Haha, yeah, the problem is when you get too big some of the groups stop supporting you. I don't think they understand that you still need to grow.

Heh, if you read the comment by ocd (me) in this post you may find out why your posts don't get votes from us. You do too well on your own. :D

I just read your comment and I was just joking around I am getting good support and am glad to see it going to people still fairly new and not getting much in rewards

Thanks for all you do fir the community

You can tell right away if someone has it or does not. The presentation is a key aspect, many don't get it and think that any old shit will cut the mustard. Good for him, I do send him some votes.

They don't seem to be curating Leofinance content. Hence no upvote for me so far... Congratulations to your colleague. It sure feels nice to see your content appreciated.

Yeah, I think they figure Leo is doing well enough on it's own and have enough heavy hitters spreading the love around that they need to focus their energy elsewhere.

It's also one of our rules to avoid controversy, politics, religion and cryptocurrency posts are some of the stuff we ignore, but you're also right that they do well on their own and we do try to vote up some underrewarded ones now and then if they pop up in our radar if they're more general finance stuff than something people might think we're vouching for if it's shilling a random coin/financial advice.

That makes a lot of sense. I really respect that about you folks. I can understand how important it is to remain unbiased.

Thank you for the plug in your post! I don't blame you at all about the jealousy, I would be feeling the same way if not worse and it wouldn't go away too easily.

All I can say is that you made transitioning on here super easy and I learned from the best. All of the things you do for me, the delegation, tips, the heads-up on things are greatly appreciated. I hope one day I will be able to make it all up to you, but for now proving that I am worth the time you put in will have to do.

Back in the early Steem days a friend of mine I invited received $10k post rewards in a travel post of his, I can relate to the jealousy part. :D

These schemes are potentially good as long as they are rewarding quality and not used by cliques. People will delegate anyway if there are rewards to be had. I am sure it is hard to monitor all they vote on, but I hope they have good curators. I sometimes get a Curie vote, but that's rare. You seem to one of those that buildawhale favours, so you do okay.

Curie votes are relatively non existent these days. Especially if your account is big. I don't think I would call these schemes but that might just be a language barrier thing between us. Schemes carries a nefarious connotation for me. I do think there needs to me something for those mid level accounts. Plateauing can feel like failure at times.

Call them what you will :) I think if you can guarantee a few dollars per post then you are doing okay. A lot is likely to come from auto votes, so they are probably not even seeing what you do. People need to build a following of those who engage and not rely on curation projects.

Overviewing the incubation I can tell you a lot is improving, our rules we've set in place that can be read in a recent ocd post are working well to 1, not constantly reward the same users (unless there just really is a lack of other quality content from others) and 2, not reward users who already do fairly well (say $20+ in rewards from it's own). Another great thing with the incubation and the way we reward the community leaders, curators and moderators is that with a higher price it can scale rather well. Upvotes worth more with same voting mana spent, community can scale up to invite more curators and moderators and at the same time we can reward more authors if activity has gone up with the same upvote ratio (generally we keep it 10% curators - 90% authors of the community with some exceptions (if part of the curation report rewards are used to fund tips to be sent to deserving comments, but this latter might not be needed anymore with upcoming linear curve).

Anyway, glad to see someone you onboarded was found and curated, the Hive Gaming community has been doing really well thanks to the help of @perceval and @pusen lately adding a lot of time and effort to make sure to reward what's deserving and this author was. The latter votes unfortunately are a bit blind and rancho seems to just cast on whatever is trending at the time which often leads to reward the same users over and over who get to trending from blind autovotes to begin with and that's one of the reasons we've also been downvote curating with ocdb on such occasions.

Thanks for all of that awesome info! I wish you could reblog comments. I would totally be sharing this. I get that about not wanting to upvote posts that hit that 20 mark. I almost wish there was a citation service for those who get stuck in that 20 to 29 range. Though rewards like that are nothing to complain about, it can feel like you are not continuing to grow and therefore failing.

Of course we do still reward exceptional content even if it's $40+ and bring a lot of them up there, even if it means less curation returns with the current rules. It's awesome to be able to bring posts to trending from unique authors every now and then like the one mentioned in your post. :)

Nice to see when curation works well, most of it does, and helping your friend understand is more important than the curation he received. He has learned from you, and with the curation may stay and be a community member for a few years to come, and that makes us all winner because of your efforts.

Yes, thank you. I let him know right from the beginning how important growing your account via curation and engagement is. I notice he got a downvote so I will probably discuss that with him tomorrow. Just so he understands it isn't personal.

Yeah the to much reward down votes really sucks. Who knows maybe one day instead of appearing to punish the Author the person that gave to much will have his portion of curation removed and the author would still get his full reward as given by the people.

That would be an interesting metric.

Awesome! I'm glad to be part of the curation body that made your worker happy and of course, made you proud. We sometimes get the ire and sometimes retaliation downvotes from other users, but we must stay true to the curation ethics that we set.

This is so awesome! There were no doubts in my mind when curating the posts from @iikrypticsii . The first one is something someone might find when searching up info on the new season of Apex Legends and that's adding some great value to the post (and Hive) in my opinion.
