Bozzlife: Feeling the Burn(out)

Yesterday as I was spending some time commenting on Leo, I started to come to a realization. It has only been a couple of weeks that I have been more active on Leo, but it was becoming very obvious to me that I was on the verge of burning out.

I jumped over to HiveBlocks to verify an assumption I had and sure enough, my voting power was down into the fifty percent range.

It quickly became apparent to me that I needed to make some changes. As excited as I was to see myself in the list of top commenters a week or so ago, trying to maintain that level is just not possible for me. Especially considering my full time job is keeping me busy enough as it is.

Over the past several weeks, I have even found myself commenting on posts over the weekend. Something I purposely stopped doing quite some time ago just to help me maintain my sanity.

Not to worry, I still plan on engaging, but yesterday I started making some changes to help me keep my voting power and my mental well being in check.

The first move I made was to take advantage of opportunity to delegate Hive to the Leo Voter account so that I can earn LEO in return. At a return rate of about 16% I feel this is a pretty good deal. I have no doubt I could make more through manual curation, but I think we have covered why that isn't a possibility at this point in my life.

The second thing I did was to delegate about 70% of my Leo power to my wife's account. She has an account which has sat unused for several months now. I noticed her voting power was at 100%, so I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. By moving my Leo curation over to her account, that frees up my main account for hive curation. I also had her account follow a decent Leo trail so that I know quality content is getting upvoted by that account.

I still plan on commenting on Leo with my main account, It wouldn't feel right if I totally automated everything. Between the changes I have made above and the investment I have already made in LBI, I feel like I am in a good place to grow my account as well as my contribution to Leo.

This is definitely a long term thing and over the past couple of weeks I have been approaching it as more of a sprint versus the marathon that it is.

My hope is that these changes will give myself and my accounts the stamina to make it through the long haul.

I fee you and when you say :

Well been there done that ! I have been in the top engagers and Engagement league for times but it’s always life first ! I have seen that in the summer when I had more time and now the days are shorter and more things to do ( read making a Santa Christmas house ) and that causes me to do less. All is just do it and have fun, but I will do lol manually no trails for me

Haha, I think I am the opposite. In the summer I am busy camping and stuff like that I don't have as much time for blockchain stuff. In the winter things slow way down so I compromise and find myself commenting on the weekends. These past couple of weekends have just been irresponsible!

Take care of yourself, my friend! Sanity and health are the most valuable things in life. I want to write a post today about this, also how it is affecting the performance of Leo in general.

The idea to delegate to your wife is very good as it will keep the ROI at an optimal level.

Hope that you manage to wind off and go away from the pressure that can lead to a burnout. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you. My biggest fear with the delegation was that people would take it as an unwillingness to engage.

Well, if you fall and get sick, then is your engagement gone. We need to act mindful and engagement needs to be genuine, related to the post. A comment needs to have a meaning, not just a check to have one more clogging the chain. We face the danger to fall into the quantity metrics instead of quality. Quality brings value. Look at Apple for example, quality, it is a premium and people are attracted to it. Apple is one of the top performers in technology. This shall happen wit LEO also.

Yup. Burn out is real.

That's why I reserve comments for when I actually have something to say and not doing it for the sake of "engagement".

By the way, that job thing tends to lead to burnout. That is my experience anyway.

It isnt your commenting that is wearing you down, it is that work thing.

We need to remove that from the equation.

After all, WORK is a four letter word that we were warned about as kids.

Haha, yeah, I am about five years or so from retirement, so I might as well finish it out now. I'd love to have a big enough passive income that it was less of an imperative.

I kind of hit that same wall this week. Work life getting real busy, and I had a post earn a whopping 1.5 cents that I thought would do well. I'm not giving up but like you want to adjust my behavior to maintain some sanity. Good luck to you and happy holidays!

Let it flow, is all I would say to you. That comes from someone who at some point had over 600 comments in one week.

Know how you feel, it can take its toll with a full time job that is more of a "full-on" job to contend with! Health always comes first mate. I'm also stepping back a bit and checking in where I can. Following curation trails, delegating to Leo.voter and bought some LBI to help grow the account whilst I focus on 3D things atm.

Take care

Sounds like we are on similar tracks then. Best of luck and hopefully this holiday season will be a good time for both of us to recharge!

(Edited)

It is easy to get carried away with online stuff. I know we earn from being active on Hive, but for most of us it's not essential to getting by. It has to be fun for me to make it worth while. By all means automate stuff to ensure your vote gets used.

I am trying delegating some LEO to see what return I get. A lot of what I vote on won't earn it anyway as my interests are broad.

Chill out and have fun.

I hear you, time time time or the lack of. One day, full time here for me. The goal is the end of 2021. We will see.
