NFT brings memes to the art gallery - $473,000 for a meme.

$450 million dollars were paid in 2017 for Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi painting. It broke the world record of the most expensive piece of art to be bought. It is more than double the amount spent on the second most expensive - Amedeo Modigliani's Nu couché which was priced at $170 mil.

The artworld is seriously crazy, and that is an understatement. Many artworks are sold based on the rarity and priced as such. Many for the history of the event, painter, or even materials used. If you have an exclusive one, oh boy! It is a material form of communication. A piece of history engraved in paint-dipped strokes. Often more than not, it is also a brilliant buffer for laundering money. What? I had to say it!

Paintings or art are symbolic, often resembling an idea, or phenomenon, a means of imitation. They usually carry a lot of cultural and relevant to time notes with them. Guess what else fits that category? Memes.

Memes are an artwork. You can create them on your phone while you take a walk. Find one of the internet and send your friend, which then becomes the reason both of you share a moment of genuine chuckle amidst your mundane lives. They are just everywhere. And there is a meme for almost anything.

The reason I am saying all this is because someday when memes are done and dusted. Maybe when human beigns communicate through telepathic neural implants, and memes become obsolete, they might begin finding ancient relics in forms of memes which will then be sold for 10s of bitcoins. Or maybe Eth or whatever the digital currency is running the market then.

The very popular meme "Disaster Girl" got auctioned for $473k as an NFT by 3fmusic. Turns out, this Dubai based music production has been buying up and collecting a nice group of high-profile NFTs for some time now.

Zoe Roth went viral not once, but many times. She has been open on multiple occasions to talk about her experience becoming a meme. The story behind the picture that became a viral meme is as anticlimactic and mundane as it gets. But it is worth $473k now!

This could mean many things for memes, NFT, art and artists. It opens up a whole new plethora of possibilities. Ideally, I would love to see historic and monumental paintings go into storage and their NFTs be sold instead. Similarly, I would love to see more and more memes get valued on the NFT marketplace. As of now, Disaster Girl is the most expensive meme standing at 130 Eth.

I don't really understand it, some things have so much financial value and I don't know who would pay for it. Good for them tho
