Thinking out Loud πŸš† , PEAKD/HIVE, The Future, Saving

Greetings Hivers,

While on my morning commute πŸš†, I was thinking about what to write for my first LeoFinance post on the topic of saving. My thoughts were triggered by a recent contest/challenge set by the Saturday Savers Club @eddie-earner and @shanibeer with the possibility of earning some SPI. The word requirement was at least 200 words. Don’t check the word count! Stay focused.

Who are the people on PEAKD/HIVE?
I've noticed that many of the HIVERS I've interacted with are middle aged professionals. You may be one of them. If you don't fall into this category please forgive me as this is only my second month here. Comment below so we can have a chat.

Financial Goals ⚽
Yeah, so if you're reading this I'm assuming you are an employed or self employed professional. You may have some IT training so you can use a computer and of course you have access to a stable internet service. You have a place to sleep at night where you are paying rent or a monthly mortgage. You may have finished paying for your student loans or you are well on your way to having them cleared. You are somewhat free spirited and you don't appreciate being restricted or censored. If I'm wrong on anything so for don't worry about it. That's not the point. Like most people, you may be living from paycheck to paycheck even though you have some buffer funds in the bank that you don't intend to use anytime soon. One concern you may have now is whether or not you will be ready for retirement when that time comes.

So what kind of advice can I give you?
You and I are probably in the same boat. You want to increase your income streams and you think that HIVE/PEAKD is one of the low risk ways you can learn while you earn crypto, albeit slowly. Like me, you think you can make some income from the content you contribute in various communities. You will make new friends and acquaintances through interacting with members of the community. If you've been here for a while, you're probably not the get rich quick type but you also want to make sure that the time you spend here is worthwhile. One of your goals is to ensure that you can still afford the necessities when you hit retirement. You are wondering whether or not you'll be able to have the lifestyle you desire at that time.

Things to think about
untitled.gif
To be clear, I'm not sure if I'm qualified to give you advice but you could consider finding the communities that match your interests and contribute consistent quality content in them.Don't forget to interact with members of your community. Talk to them. Comment on their posts. Give them positive feedback. Remember no man is an island. By doing so, you'll slowly increase your Hive Power and earn a few tokens/Hives/HBD along the way.Bear in mind that over time the value of those tokens will fluctuate.
After some time has passed, consider creating your own community after building a following of your own. If you've been here for a while you're probably managing your own community or several communities. Kudos to you, you are well on your way.

Other things to consider
You may be thinking."How long is this commute going to be?" Don't worry I was actually thinking the same thing. 🀣
So in the absence of concrete advice I'd like to suggest that we seek answers to the following questions while we have the time:

- When do you plan to retire?

- How will you continue to earn post retirement?

- If you have children, do you have a plan to finance their education?

- Who will take care of your parents when they can no longer care for themselves?

- What about your own health care needs and those of your family as you grow older?

- When you transition into the afterlife what will happen to all that you've accumulated?

While you ponder these things, seek the advice of experts. Talk to your wise family, friends, colleagues. Find out what their plans are and see if they have any great ideas that you haven't considered. Do research and read extensively on issues that are important or that interest you. In the absence of external motivation, light your own fire.πŸ”₯

Finally keep taking deliberate action towards achieving your goals.

Stay connected, stay focused.

Hi @bearmol - you've echoed my thoughts about retirement, especially what is going to happen to everything I am going to leave behind. I've started to de-clutter things that were important previously, but I don't need now (lots of papers)!

Nuff respect @justinparke. Notes to self sometimes resonate with our neighbors. Respect to the community for the positive reception.
