Hace un par de semanas atrás me encontré con esta publicación de @morethanbooks en donde nos hablaba acerca de los Plot Twist que ella considera como LOS MEJORES. Mariangela también nos incentivaba a tomar su post como iniciativa para compartir aquellas películas con un Plot Twist que sin duda nos han dejado boquiabiertos. Sinceramente a mí la idea me encantó pues sí han existido un montón de películas cuyos giros de trama me han dejado completamente sin palabras y me han parecido tan fascinantes que las termino reproduciendo una y otra vez.

Un Plot Twist o giro argumental resulta ser como ese ingrediente mágico para que una película pase de ser buena a ser SIMPLEMENTE ÉPICA. Básicamente puede decirse que es un cambio radical y completamente inesperado de los acontecimientos de una trama, es como ese pequeño factor sorpresa que termina transformando absolutamente todo y resulta que aquello que los guionistas te hicieron creer desde un comienzo pues no era del todo cierto.

Antes de continuar con este post debo advertir: ¡ALERTA DE SPOILER!, realmente es bastante difícil hablar sobre los mejores Plot Twist sin revelar un poco sobre la historia, entonces para aquellos que no han visto ninguna de estas películas, si les contara cuál es el giro de la trama, ya no tendría ningún chiste que vieran la película, por lo que les recomiendo no seguir leyendo este post en caso de que sean de ese tipo de personas que detestan los spoilers. Dicho esto, ¡comencemos con este Top 3 de películas con LOS MEJORES Giros de Trama! (desde mi punto de vista, claro está).

Hello, Earthlings!

A couple of weeks ago I came across this post by @morethanbooks where she told us about the Plot Twist that she considers to be THE BEST. Mariangela also encouraged us to take her post as an initiative to share those movies with a Plot Twist that without a doubt have left us speechless. Honestly, I loved the idea because there have been a lot of movies whose plot twists have left me completely speechless and I have found them so fascinating that I end up playing them over and over again.

A Plot Twist turns out to be like that magical ingredient for a movie to go from being good to being SIMPLY EPIC. Basically it can be said that it is a radical and completely unexpected change in the events of a plot, it is like that little surprise factor that ends up transforming absolutely everything and it turns out that what the screenwriters made you believe from the beginning was not entirely true.

Before continuing with this post I must warn: SPOILER ALERT!, it is really quite difficult to talk about the best Plot Twist without revealing a little bit about the story, so for those of you who haven't seen any of these movies, if I told you what the plot twist is, it would no longer have any joke for you to watch the movie, so I recommend not to continue reading this post in case you are that kind of people who hate spoilers. That said, let's get started with this Top 3 movies with THE BEST Plot Twists! (from my point of view, of course).

El director Alejandro Amenábar supo construir una historia de suspenso bastante interesante que le genera al espectador una gran inquietud. A lo largo de la película se nos arrojan ciertos detalles que nos hacen pensar que, en definitiva, hay algo que no está bien y que nos terminan conduciendo a un desenlace bastante sorprendente.

En esta cinta, Nicole Kidman encarna el papel de Grace, una mujer bastante estricta y religiosa que vive sola con sus dos hijos, Anne y Nicholas, en una gran mansión aislada ubicada en la Isla de Jersey. Nuestra protagonista espera el regreso de su esposo quien es un soldado que se encuentra prestando servicio en la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Todos los acontecimientos “extraños” comienzan a ocurrir con la llegada de tres nuevos sirvientes a la casa, que ya habían trabajado ahí muchos años atrás y que en esta oportunidad se encargarían de cuidar de la casa y de los hijos de Grace, que cabe destacar padecían de una extraña enfermedad que los hacía ser fotosensibles, por lo que una de las reglas de nuestra protagonista era que la casa debía siempre permanecer bajo total oscuridad.

La llegada de la nueva servidumbre se asocia a eventos sobrenaturales que comienzan a ocurrir dentro de la mansión. Anne le manifiesta a su madre que al parecer estaba viendo a personas desconocidas dentro de la mansión, más específicamente a cuatro personas: un hombre, una mujer, un niño llamado Víctor y una anciana, pero Grace no le cree pues piensa que la niña está inventando todo eso con la intención de asustar a su hermano menor. En un principio podemos pensar que nos encontramos ante una historia más sobre una casa que está embrujada y con una familia que comienza a batallar con la presencia de espíritus que los molestan constantemente, pero es ahí donde ocurre un giro inesperado de los acontecimientos pues en realidad Grace, sus dos hijos y los tres sirvientes son en realidad los fantasmas…sí, ellos están muertos y en realidad las personas que Anne veía se trataba de una familia que quería alquilar la mansión pero que al encontrarse con los fantasmas contrataron a la anciana médium para tratar de expulsarlos. Lo interesante es que, a diferencia de los sirvientes, Grace y sus hijos no recordaban estar muertos y es ahí donde ella comienza a recordar toda su lamentable verdad: luego de enterarse de la muerte de su esposo en la guerra, ella enloqueció matando a sus hijos para después asesinarse. Al recordar todo esto se dispone, junto con los sirvientes, a ahuyentar a cualquier inquilino que deseara quedarse con su casa.

The director Alejandro Amenábar knew how to build a quite interesting suspenseful story that generates a great uneasiness in the viewer. Throughout the film we are thrown certain details that make us think that, ultimately, there is something that is not right and that end up leading us to a surprising denouement.

In this film, Nicole Kidman plays the role of Grace, a rather strict and religious woman who lives alone with her two children, Anne and Nicholas, in a large isolated mansion located on the island of Jersey. Our protagonist awaits the return of her husband who is a soldier serving in World War II. All the "strange" events begin to occur with the arrival of three new servants to the house, who had already worked there many years before and that this time would be in charge of taking care of the house and Grace's children, who suffered from a strange disease that made them photosensitive, so one of the rules of our protagonist was that the house should always remain in total darkness.

The arrival of the new servants is associated with supernatural events that begin to occur inside the mansion. Anne tells her mother that apparently she was seeing unknown people inside the mansion, more specifically four people: a man, a woman, a boy named Victor and an old woman, but Grace does not believe her because she thinks that the girl is inventing all this with the intention of scaring her younger brother. At first we may think that we are facing another story about a house that is haunted and a family that begins to battle with the presence of spirits that constantly bother them, but that is where an unexpected turn of events occurs because in reality Grace, her two children and the three servants are actually the ghosts...yes, they are dead and in reality the people Anne saw were a family who wanted to rent the mansion but when they encountered the ghosts they hired the old medium to try to expel them. The interesting thing is that, unlike the servants, Grace and her children did not remember being dead and that is where she begins to remember all her unfortunate truth: after learning of her husband's death in the war, she went mad, killing her children and then murdering herself. Remembering all this, she sets out, together with the servants, to **drive away any tenant who might wish to take over her house.

Déjenme decirles que el final de esta película es uno de los más perversos, retorcidos y devastadores que he visto hasta el momento pues ante todo esta es una película que trata sobre la venganza. Esta película básicamente trata sobre un hombre de negocios que es secuestrado y privado de su libertad durante 15 años por una razón que él desconoce completamente. Un día, mágicamente, su captor lo deja en libertad en la azotea de un edificio y ahí comienza su incesante búsqueda de respuestas: ¿quién fue su captor y cuál fue la razón de su secuestro? y es así cuando comienza a seguir las pistas que su mismo secuestrador le ha dejado para descubrir la verdad.

Pero en su camino por descubrir la verdad de toda su situación, se topa con una mujer de la cual se enamora y bueno…terminan intimando. Ella de alguna manera lo comienza a ayudar para obtener sus respuestas, pero lo cierto es que todo siempre estuvo fríamente calculado por su secuestrador y al final no sólo se nos revela el porqué del secuestro de nuestro protagonista pues también descubrimos que aquella mujer de la que se había enamorado y con la que había intimado era nada más y nada menos que SU HIJA. Como mencioné anteriormente, todo había sido parte de un plan bien estructurado por parte del secuestrador como parte de su venganza hacia este hombre. Sin duda, un plan bastante macabro por parte del “villano” de la película y un final bastante perverso sobre todo por la decisión que toma el protagonista luego de enterarse de que su nuevo interés romántico es su propia hija.

Let me tell you that the ending of this movie is one of the most perverse, twisted and devastating I have seen so far because first and foremost this is a film about revenge. This movie is basically about a businessman who is kidnapped and deprived of his freedom for 15 years for a reason that he is completely unaware of. One day, magically, his captor sets him free on the rooftop of a building and there begins his relentless search for answers: who was his captor and what was the reason for his kidnapping? and that is when he begins to follow the clues that his own kidnapper has left him to discover the truth.

But on his way to discover the truth of his whole situation, he meets a woman with whom he falls in love and well... they end up getting intimate. She somehow begins to help him to get his answers, but the truth is that everything was always coldly calculated by his kidnapper and in the end we not only find out the reason for the kidnapping of our protagonist, but we also discover that the woman he had fallen in love with and with whom he had become intimate was none other than HIS DAUGHTER. As I mentioned earlier, it had all been part of a well-structured plan by the kidnapper as part of his revenge on this man. Undoubtedly, a rather macabre plan on the part of the "villain" of the film and a rather perverse ending especially for the decision that the protagonist makes after learning that his new romantic interest is his own daughter.

Esta película puedo decir que me agradó bastante no sólo por el Plot Twist que se nos presenta al final, sino también por el trasfondo que posee pues detrás del terror y suspenso hay escondida un crítica hacia la desigualdad social que existe en el mundo. La protagonista de esta cinta es Adelaide, quien realiza un viaje a la casa de su infancia con su esposo y sus dos hijos, pero lo que en principio parecían ser unas tranquilas vacaciones cerca de la playa se terminan transformando en una lucha por la supervivencia. A nuestra protagonista le trae malos recuerdos aquel lugar pues fue ahí en donde vivió un episodio bastante traumático en su infancia que se volverá a repetir esa misma noche cuando cuatro extraños aparecen en la puerta de su casa, pero lo curioso aquí es que esos cuatro extraños son los dobles malvados de su familia que decidieron salir de su escondite para reclamar lo que se merecen: una vida digna.

Red es el nombre que lleva el clon de Adelaide y hacia el final de la película ella nos cuenta un poco acerca de cómo fue que surgieron los dobles. Resulta que todo se trataba de un turbio proyecto que intentaba controlar a la humanidad al crear clones perfectos que pudiese ser manipulados a su antojo, pero el plan no salió como se esperaba, pues sí fueron capaces de reproducir a la perfección el aspecto físico de las personas más no su alma y su consciencia. Como el plan había fallado los clones fueron desechados y abandonados a su suerte en una especie de catatumbas. Pero la gran revelación bastante impactante de la película es que Red (el supuesto clon malvado) es la verdadera Adelaide…y hasta aquí les dejo esto, no diré más acerca de cómo fue que el clon malvado tomó el lugar de la verdadera protagonista y la encerró en las catatumbas, si no han visto la película mejor descúbranlo ustedes mismos.

I can say that I liked this film not only because of the Plot Twist that is presented at the end, but also because of its background, because behind the horror and suspense there is a hidden criticism of the social inequality that exists in the world. The protagonist of this film is Adelaide, who takes a trip to her childhood home with her husband and two children, but what at first seemed to be a quiet vacation near the beach ends up turning into a struggle for survival. Our protagonist has bad memories of that place because it was there where she lived a very traumatic episode in her childhood that will be repeated that same night when four strangers appear at the door of her house, but the curious thing here is that these four strangers are the evil doubles of her family who decided to come out of hiding to claim what they deserve: a dignified life.

Red is the name Adelaide's clone goes by and towards the end of the film she tells us a bit about how the doppelgangers came to be. It turns out that it was all about a shady project that tried to control humanity by creating perfect clones that could be manipulated at will, but the plan did not go as expected, because they were able to perfectly reproduce the physical appearance of people but not their soul and consciousness. As the plan had failed, the clones were discarded and abandoned to their fate in a kind of catatombs. But the big and quite shocking revelation of the movie is that Red (the supposed evil clone) is the real Adelaide...and I will not say more about how the evil clone took the place of the real protagonist and locked her in the catatombs, if you have not seen the movie you better find out for yourselves.
