En estos días de cuarentena en mi país, he estado compartiendo con mis sobrinos, viendo algunos comics muy interesantes. Hoy vengo a compartirles mis impresiones sobre Soul, una de las últimas producciones de Pixar y que en estos tiempos ha sido una opción muy preciada por el público en general.

Se trata de la historia de un músico (Joe) que desea mostrar su talento en el Jazz y así convertirse en u profesional que pueda ser contratado por bandas de música. Cuando ya parece que se le presenta la oportunidad tiene un accidente que hace que su alma haga un viaje al más allá, donde aprenderá importantes lecciones para su vida terrenal que, al final, logra recuperar.

In these days of quarantine in my country, I have been sharing with my nephews, watching some very interesting comics. Today I come to share with you my impressions about Soul, one of Pixar's latest productions, and that in these times has been a very precious option for the general public.

It is the story of a musician (Joe) who wants to show his talent in Jazz and thus become a professional who can be hired by music bands. When it seems that he has the opportunity, he has an accident that makes his soul take a trip to the afterlife, where he will learn important lessons for his earthly life that, in the end, he manages to recover.

¿Qué cosas me gustaría resaltar?

Unidad del ser humano. En gran parte de esta historia, los personajes principales (Joe y 22) tienen sus almas habitando cuerpos diferentes. En el caso de Joe es el cuerpo de un gato, y en el de 22 es el cuerpo de Joe. Para el primero es complicado ya que no puedo ni expresarse (los demás le escuchan maullando) ni hacer nada (tocar piano) de lo que hacía antes; para el segundo, es una experiencia totalmente novedosa, por eso, le costará hasta dominar sus piernas para aprender a caminar.
Pasión por la vida. Si quisiéramos hacer referencia al tema central de esta película, pudiésemos decir que es esa pasión que se tiene por vivir, no tanto los sueños, metas y propósitos que alcanzamos, que a veces escapan de nuestras manos, sino el disfrutar de las pequeñas cosas de la vida: comida, bebida, compartir, etc.

What things would I like to highlight?

Unity of the human being. In much of this story, the main characters (Joe and 22) have their souls inhabiting different bodies. In Joe's case, it is the body of a cat, and in 22's case, it is Joe's body. For the former, it is complicated because he can neither express himself (others hear him meowing) nor do anything (play piano) that he did before; for the latter, it is a totally new experience, so it will take him even to master his legs to learn to walk.
Passion for life. If we wanted to refer to the central theme of this film, we could say that it is the passion we have for living, not so much the dreams, goals, and purposes we achieve, which sometimes escape from our hands, but enjoying the little things in life: eating, drinking, sharing, etc.

Una línea entre la euforia y la depresión. Existe un dicho que dice "los extremos se tocan", las personas a veces alcanzamos momentos en nuestra vida donde parece que nos conectamos con el más allá (cantar, hacer una obra de arte, etc.) , pero también cuando nos enganchamos indebidamente a otros (un fracaso, una decepción, etc.) caemos en depresión.

Lo interesante aquí es que según este comic, existe una zona donde ambos momentos tienen lugar, así también es en la vida real, tanto la euforia como la depresión son momentos no estaciones para hacer una parada, cuando se las comprende así no hay problema, pero cuando no, nos hacemos daño, no disfrutamos la vida en sus diversas variantes.

Se aprende a vivir, viviendo. Sólo cuando 22 experimenta la vida en el cuerpo de Joe es cuando le dan el pase a la vida en la tierra, porque él descubre en sí mismo la razón de vivir (ser feliz), cosa que no le habían podido enseñar sus instructores "espirituales" del más allá.

A line between euphoria and depression. There is a saying that goes "extremes touch", people sometimes reach moments in our life where we seem to connect with the beyond (singing, making a work of art, etc.), but also when we get unduly hooked to others (a failure, a disappointment, etc.) we fall into depression.

The interesting thing here is that according to this comic, there is a zone where both moments take place, so it is also in real life, both euphoria and depression are not seasonal moments to make a stop, when they are understood as such there is no problem, but when not, we hurt ourselves, we do not enjoy life in its various variants.

One learns to live by living. Only when he experiences life in Joe's body is when he is given the pass to live on earth, because he discovers in himself the reason to live (to be happy), something that his "spiritual" instructors in the beyond had not been able to teach him.
