Dance of the 41 - Homosexuality is (not) a sin | Impressions and film review

Hello, living beings! I was finally motivated to write after spending almost 2 months without doing it, I tried during the last weeks, but I couldn't, my mind still couldn't, but after watching this movie, I need to share it with you was born in me. El Baile de Los 41 is a movie based on real events about the double life of the congressman Ignacio de la Torre, married to the daughter of the president of Mexico, Porfirio Diaz, during the beginning of the 20th century.

I don't know if I cried more than I laughed, or laughed more than I got angry, or got angrier than I hated the world. More than 100 years ago everything that is told in this movie happened, and even if it was not based on real events, I would have suffered the same, these are situations that have always been lived and will continue to be lived as long as in this shitty world homosexuality continues to be seen as an aberration of nature and not as something normal.

Al fin me provocó escribir después de pasar casi 2 meses sin poder hacerlo, lo intenté durante las últimas semanas pero no podía, mi mente aún no podía, pero después de ver esta película nació en mí la necesidad de compartirla con ustedes. El Baile de los 41 es una película basada en hechos reales sobre la doble vida del diputado Ignacio de la Torre, casado con la hija del presidente de México, Porfirio Díaz, durante el comienzo del sigo XX.

No sé si lloré más de lo que me reí, o me reí más de lo que me enojé, o si me enojé más de lo que llegué a odiar el mundo. Hace más de 100 años sucedió todo lo que nos cuentan en esta película, y aunque no estuviera basada en hechos reales hubiera, sufrido lo mismo, son situaciones que siempre se han vivido y que se seguirán viviendo mientras en este mundo de mierda se siga viendo a la homosexualidad como una aberración de la naturaleza y no como algo normal.

I don't remember when I found out about this movie, but I know I was waiting for it more and more, and as soon as it was released on Netflix I wanted to watch it, but I couldn't do it until almost a week later, which I was grateful for because I had to do it in the company of my beloved loneliness to be able to experience the full range of emotions and feelings that I lived.

I have loved Alfonzo Herrera since I saw him on Sense8, and to see him play another gay character and also at this level is awesome. Ignacio is the representation of so many men who have a double life, happily married with children in the sunlight and love with another man in the moonlight; too many men live like this, miserable lives that consume them more and more for many reasons and none of them are their fault, either because they were raised with the idea that loving another man was a sin and you would go to hell for it, or because the country they live in being homosexual is illegal and they can be tortured and killed publicly with thousands of viewers.

No recuerdo cuando me enteré de la existencia de esta película, pero sé que la esperaba cada vez más y apenas fue estrenada en Netflix la quise ver, pero no pude hacerlo hasta casi una semana después, cosa que agradezco porque tenía que hacerlo en la compañía de mi amada soledad para poder experimentar toda la gama de emociones y sentimientos que viví.

Amo a Alfonzo Herrera desde que lo vi en Sense8, y verlo hacer otro personaje homosexual y además de este nivel es impresionante. Ignacio es la representación de muchísimos hombres que tienen una doble vida, felizmente casados y con hijos a la luz del sol y enamorados de otro hombre a la luz de la luna; demasiados hombres viven así, vidas miserables que los consumen cada vez más por muchas razones y ninguna es su culpa, ya sea porque fueron educados con la idea de que querer a otro hombre era pecado e irías al infierno por eso, o porque el país en el que viven ser homosexual es ilegal y pueden llegar a ser torturados y asesinados publicamente con miles de espectadores.

In this type of situation, you have to understand that both the man and the woman end up in a situation that although it can get out of their hands and it is up to them to handle it as best they can, they can't always and in the beginning they ended up like that because of a society that will always judge things differently and will make you believe that it is your fault when it is not,

I suffered for both of them, for Ignacio and his double life, and for Amada and all that she had to live, neither asked for it, but it happened and they both did what they could to cope with it all, survive, forget and pretend that nothing happened while they were dying inside, and we were with them all the time.

En este tipo de situaciones hay que entender que tanto el hombre como la mujer terminan en una situación que si bien puede salirse de sus manos y está en ellos manejarla como mejor puedan, no siempre se pueden y en un principio terminaron así a casua de una sociedad que siempre va a juzgar las cosas diferentes y te haran creer que es tu culpa cuando no es así,

Sufrí por ambos, por Ignacio y su doble vida, y por Amada y todo lo que le tocó vivir, ninguno pidió por eso, pero sucedió y ambos hicieron lo que pudieron para sobrellevar todo eso, sobrevivir, olvidar y pretender que nada sucedió mientras morían por dentro, y nosotros acompañándolos en todo momento.

The movie has exquisite photography. The lighting and the scenographies had me totally enraptured. When I wasn't crying, I was admiring all the things that surround and create the necessary atmosphere for each kind of different situation. I would love to talk about almost the entire movie-making spoilers everywhere, but I'm not going to do that, I'm just going to tell you about the final scene, so if you don't want to read that spoiler, don't read the next paragraph and go straight to the end.

I cried the last fifteen minutes of the movie, maybe more, silent tears coming out of my eyes and I never tried to avoid it, the dance for which the title of the movie is inspired and which was the headline of the news in real life, that dance was exquisite, 21 men in dresses and 21 men in suits, each dress was more beautiful than the previous one and was worn with pride and libertarianism even though they were locked in a clandestine party that could never be talked about; which resulted in being one of the biggest scandals of the time. There is a scene after being discovered where they are publicly humiliated in a square, I remember it and I cry again because of the anger and the immense rage that grows in me, I know it is only fiction even though it was inspired by real events, but the cries of hatred, humiliation, and violence with which they are treated and assaulted is such that it is impossible not to react, and the worst thing is that these are things that happen even today, after more than 100 years of The Dance of the 41.

La película tiene una fotografía exquisita, la iluminación y las escenografías me tenían embelesado totalmente, cuando no estaba llorando estaba admirando todas las cosas que rodeaban y creaban el ambiente necesario para cada tipo de situación diferente. Amaría hablar de casi toda la película completa haciendo spoilers por doquier, pero no lo voy a hacer, solo les voy a hablar de la escena final, así que si no quieren leer ese spoiler, no lean el siguiente párrafo y vayan directamente al final.

Lloré los últimos quince minutos de película, quizás más, lágrimas silenciosas que salían de mis ojos y nunca intenté evitarlo, el baile por el cual está inspirado el título de la película y el cual fue el titular de la noticia en la vida real, ese baile fue exquisito, 21 hombres con vestidos y 21 hombres con traje, cada estido era más hermoso que el anterior y era usado con orgullo y libertar aunque estuvieran encerrados en una fiesta clandestina de la que nunca se podría hablar; el cual resultó en ser uno de los mayores escándolos de la época. Hay una escena después de ser descubiertos en donde son humillados publicamente en una plaza, la recuerdo y vuelvo a llorar del enojo y la rabia inmensa que crece en mí, sé que es solo ficción a pesar de que fue inspirada en hechos reales, pero los gritos de odio, la humillación y la violencia con la que son tratados y agredidos es tal que es imposible no tener una reacción, y lo peor es que son cosas que suceden aún hoy, después de más de 100 años de El Baile de los 41.

The Dance of 41, one of the many films that show homophobia, and the cruelty that society can commit against things it does not accept because of an irrational fear that nothing can explain. Many times I have jokingly said that I hate heterosexuals, but remember that there are still murders of hate towards homosexuals and the rest of the members of the LGBTQ+ community just for being the way they are, remembering that makes my hatred true for a few seconds and I wish for their extinction more than the extinction of humanity in general.

Representation is something that can save lives, knowing that it's okay to be the way you are and that it's the world that is wrong to make you question that, it was about time that more homosexual stories came out in this world.

El Baile de los 41, una de las muchas películas que desmuestra la homofobia, el machismo, y la crueldad que la sociedad puede llegar a cometer contra las cosas que no acepta por un miedo irracional que nada puede explicar. Muchas veces he dicho jugando que odio a los heterosexuales, pero al recordar que aún hay asesinatos de odio hacia los homosexuales y el resto de miembros de la comunidad LGBTQ+ tan solo por ser como son, el recordar eso hace que mi desprecio sea verdad por pocos segundos y desee su extinción más que la extinción de la humanidad en general.

La representación es algo que puede llegar a salvar vidas, saber que está bien ser como eres y que es el mundo el que está mal al hacerte cuestionar eso, ya era hora de que salieran más historias homosexuales en este mundo.
