An innocent child, with no other guilt than playing in the wrong spaces, results in the worst tragedy that Cherokee City has ever experienced. Only a monster is capable of tearing apart the life of a little one in such a chilling way. There are no more traces of Frank Peterson's smile, his rosy cheeks, or his prying eyes. There in the grass surrounded by insects, there is only a mutilated body, chewed up by the misery of a merciless murderer. Detective Ralph Anderson is taut in his anger and doesn't hesitate to make the culprit pay. In the memories of him she still sees him, the son who somehow also reminds her of Frank. Nightmares hide behind, with yellow eyes in the darkness of a hood. Inhale the pain and it grows stronger, it is a parasite dressed as a man. Few believe in the Cuckoo, however, some monsters are more real than you think.
I consider that one of the most difficult genres to deal with is Horror because although it tends to investigate dark situations, it is easy for these types of stories to become boring due to the repetitive reproduction of the same resource with which the scenes are developed. The Outsider, however, is a television series of horror, suspense and psychological mystery that weaves the barrier between what is real and the supernatural, leaving the viewer to fight his own disbelief and dare to believe in the impossible. Under the premise of "Evil has a face, but it hides in darkness", this story shapes a creature only seen in Halloween legends. A ruthless murder is the meeting point to unveil the reality of a nightmare that devours lives drowning them in pain and agony. In short, the vision of The Outsider manages to be interesting, as well as horrifying of course.
Un niño inocente, sin más culpa que jugar en espacios equivocados, resulta en la peor tragedia que se ha vivido en Cherokee City. Solo un monstruo es capaz de desgarrar la vida de un pequeño de una manera tan escalofriante. Ya no quedan rastros de la sonrisa de Frank Peterson, ni de sus mejillas rosadas o sus ojos curiosos. The story follows the mystery surrounding the murder of Frank Peterson, a boy who is found ruthlessly mutilated in Cherokee City. The evidence quickly points to Terry Maitland as irrefutable guilty, even, the indisputable face of him tattoos the security cameras in a place close to the crime scene. If Terry is really the culprit, why does he, too, appear on the tapes of a conference several miles from Cherokee City on the very day of the murder? Could Terry be in two places at once? the questioning is evident, and there is something else behind so many irregularities. Who is the man in the hood? Why is his face disfigured? Detective Ralph Anderson must use all of his skills to solve a seemingly indecipherable puzzle, including on his list of guilty an imagined being: the Cuckoo.
The Outsider is based on Stephen King's eponymous book of the same name, adapted for television by Richard Price for HBO. The fusion between horror and detective mysteries give complexity to the events, and boy, with enough intelligence. Naturally, mixing two genres often leads to disasters, something that Price did not contemplate in his scripts. There is a minimal gap open for the characters to contemplate the supernatural, and this allows the story to be somewhat complex. We follow Detective Ralph Anderson's vision and his unwillingness to believe a legend told to scare children. The true mystery is not the murder itself, but the inexplicable existence of a monster who loves to cause some scares and some headaches.
La historia sigue el misterio que rodea al asesinato de Frank Peterson, un niño que es encontrado mutilado de una manera despiadada en Cherokee City. Las pruebas rápidamente señalan Terry Maitland como culpable irrefutable, incluso, su indiscutible rostro tatúa las cámaras de seguridad en un lugar cercano a la escena del crimen. Naturalmente, mezclar dos géneros suele conllevar a desastres, algo que Price no contempló en sus guiones. Hay una mínima brecha abierta para que los personajes contemplen lo sobrenatural, y esto permite que la historia sea algo compleja. Seguimos la visión del detective Ralph Anderson y su poca disposición a creer un una leyenda relatada para asustar a los niños. El misterio verdadero no es en sí el asesinato, sino la inexplicable existencia de un monstruo al que le encanta causar algunos sustos y unos que otros dolores de cabeza.

Ralph Anderson does not have fond memories of alcohol and disbelief. After living a long period in the shadows, he goes back to his detective ways this time with the right intention, but what he finds does not please him at all. He is a man who little believes in bedtime horror stories, because monsters, the real ones, have nothing to do with ghosts. If so, then why did the paranormal come to life in the recent murder of Frank Peterson? Something is definitely wrong, and even if he refuses to accept it, there is a slim chance that Coco is actually the culprit. Ralph will face the most difficult test of his life: face his own judgment and finally come face to face with the visitor who has done so much damage to Cherokee City.
Ralph Anderson no tiene buenos recuerdos con el alcohol y la incredulidad. Tras vivir un largo periodo en las sombras, vuelve a sus andadas de detective esta vez con las ganas bien puestas, pero lo que encuentra no le agrada en absoluto. Él es un hombre que poco cree en los cuentos de terror para dormir, pues los monstruos, los de verdad, no tienen nada que ver con los fantasmas. Holly is the only one who seems to have more common sense among so many disbelievers. Justice always sees the man among her guilty lists, but she is unable to see the shadows, where monsters conspire to get their way. She is the bridge that fuses reality with what seems fanciful, yet she is not. Sometimes it is enough only to believe to see, otherwise, blindness will not allow you to see everything clearly. Holly learns about those parasites that cross over to wreak some havoc, using her abilities to always preserve her innocence. But this time it will be different, and this woman will do anything to prove that nightmares are real.
Holly es la única que parece tener más sentido común entre tantos incrédulos. La justicia siempre contempla al hombre entre sus listas de culpables, pero es incapaz de ver a las sombras, allí donde los monstruos conspiran para salirse con la suya. If there is one thing that takes a lot of work, it is murder: hours of stress following clues to find a culprit who will not appear that easy. That's what Jack Hoskins hates most, a somewhat miserable man who loves guns. His intentions to stay out of the Frank Peterson case were scrapped when they certainly included him so that he too would investigate what happened to the poor kid. And what did he win? Well, the biggest condemnation of him. The barn is dark. Why on earth did he have to be the one to collect evidence in that creepy place? Not that Jack is a coward, but ... What is that hooded figure that reveals his lantern? The sudden darkness leaves him blind, and the force that pounces on him will undoubtedly leave some marks on him.
Si hay algo que saca mucho trabajo es un asesinato: horas de estrés siguiendo pistas para hallar a un culpable que no aparecerá así de fácil. Eso es lo que más detesta Jack Hoskins, un hombre algo miserable al que le encantan las armas. Sus intenciones de no meterse en el caso de Frank Peterson fueron desechadas cuando ciertamente lo incluyeron para que también investigara lo sucedido con el pobre niño. ¿Y qué ganó? Terry can be anything but a murderer, or at least that's what he says. He has nothing to hide and there is evidence that indicates his innocence, but, although he does not accept it, there are also records that identify him as the culprit. What to believe then? With one foot in jail and the other in freedom, this man faces the tough task of proving that his hands are clean from a heinous and unforgivable crime. The people of Cherokee City detest him and also want to see him dead, but he is not the one they should eliminate, because the real murderer is still on the loose, impersonating identities left and right.
Terry puede ser todo menos un asesino, o al menos eso es lo que él dice. No tiene nada que ocultar y hay pruebas que indican su inocencia, pero, aunque no lo acepte también hay registros que lo identifican como el culpable. ¿Qué creer entonces? Con un pie en la cárcel y el otro en la libertad, este hombre se enfrenta a la dura tarea de demostrar que sus manos están limpias de un crimen atroz e imperdonable. The Outsider is one of those stories that has a lot to tell: a police mystery, a monster in which very few believe, skeptical characters and a horror that in itself represents the imagined side of a broken reality. Why? Because everything is conspired so that you, who watch the drama of the protagonists from the other side of the screen, also take that disbelief from the bottom of your soul. The most relevant issue that King's work adapted by Richard Price's brush achieves is the way in which supernatural events are treated so that they go unnoticed, that is, so that all those involved in this mess really believe that the killer is real and does not come from scary legends for kids. There is a constant struggle between the mind and the eyes. Do we need to see to believe? The problem with The Outsider is that nightmares use reality to prevail, simply put, they don't want you to be convinced that monsters really exist. For me, this was one of the coolest touches in the series.
If you listen to Holly's dialogue, for example, contrasted with Ralph's, you will notice a clear difference between what is real and what you don't want to be. Dracula himself may be in front of you, but as long as you continue to believe that he is a joker in disguise, your mind will remain anchored in discarding the supernatural. Let's say it's a matter of belief, of clinging or not to the possibility that there are things hidden in the dark. In this story the real victim of a heinous murder is logic, because little by little it fragments to give some space to the absurd. The bet was correct, without a doubt, and the result satisfactory. In 10 chapters you get to know the most sinister side of disbelief and pain, slightly mixing in a variety of characters that you will understand, hate and even judge.
The Outsider es de esas historias que tienen mucho para contar: un misterio policiaco, un monstruo en el que muy pocos creen, personajes escépticos y un horror que en sí mismo representa el lado imaginado de una realidad rota. ¿Por qué? Porque todo se confabula para que tú, que asistes al drama de los protagonistas desde el otro lado de la pantalla, también saques esa incredulidad del fondo de tu alma. La cuestión más relevante que logra la obra de King adaptada por el pincel de Richard Price viene a ser la manera en la que se tratan los hechos sobrenaturales para que pasen desapercibidos, es decir, para que todos los involucrados en este embrollo realmente crean que el asesino es real y no proviene de las leyendas terroríficas para niños. Hay una constante lucha entre la mente y los ojos ¿necesitamos ver para creer? El problema con The Outsider es que las pesadillas usan la realidad para prevalecer, en pocas palabras, ellas no quieren que tú estés convencido de que realmente los monstruos existen. Para mí, este fue uno de los toques más geniales de la serie.
Sí escuchas los diálogos de Holly, por ejemplo, contrastados con los de Ralph, notarás una clara diferencia entre lo que es real y lo que no quieres que lo sea. Puede que el mismísimo Drácula esté frente a ti, pero mientras siguas creyendo que se trata de un bromista disfrazado, tu mente seguirá anclada a desechar lo sobrenatural. Digamos que es una cuestión de creencias, de aferrase o no a la posibilidad de que hay cosas ocultas en la oscuridad. En esta historia la verdadera víctima de un atroz asesinato es la lógica, porque poco a poco se fragmenta para darle algo de espacio a lo absurdo. La apuesta fue acertada, sin duda, y el resultado satisfactorio. En 10 capítulos vas conociendo el lado más siniestro de la incredulidad y el dolor, levemente mezclando en una variedad de personajes a los que comprenderás, odiarás y hasta juzgarás.
However, at some point the story loses steam, perhaps due to the great barrage of unnecessary dialogue and scenes detached from the main plot. Well, it's just a small flaw that ultimately does little harm to the television series as a whole. I liked the ending, and although perhaps some ends were not tied, the most outstanding fact is that disposition of the characters to give an explanation to what remains inexplicable in front of eyes that did not show the paranormal. I loved Holly, perhaps because I understood her desperation to scream at the world about the existence of monsters. Oh, she brings back some memories when she told my mother that there was something under my bed, and yet she refused to believe it. That's the hardest question in The Outsider to "believe."
No obstante, en algún punto la historia pierde fuerza, tal vez por el gran bombardeo de diálogos innecesarios y escenas desligadas del argumento principal. Bueno, es solo un pequeño defecto que al final de cuentas poco perjudica a la serie de televisión en su conjunto. Me gustó el final, y aunque quizás algunos cabos no fueron atados, el hecho más sobresaliente es esa disposición de los personajes a darle una explicación a lo que sigue siendo inexplicable frente a ojos que no evidenciaron lo paranormal. Amé a Holly, tal vez porque yo comprendía su desesperación por gritarle al mundo sobre la existencia de los monstruos. Oh, me trae algunos recuerdos cuando le decía a mi madre que había algo debajo de mi cama, y aun así ella se negaba a creerlo. Esa es la cuestión más difícil en The Outsider “creer”.

El personaje de Holly Gibney aparece en Mr Mercedes, en la adaptación televisiva lo interpreta otra actriz. Mr Mercedes solo vi la primera temporada.
King quedo muy contento fue con esta versión de su personaje en The Outsider. Creo que habían planes de continuar con una segunda temporada. Tenían algo adelantado, no se si HBO dijo No y los creadores andan buscando otro hogar para hacerla.

Hola @jcrodriguez. Lamentablemente HBO se ha desligado de la serie, no sé por qué razón, pero los creadores tienen pensado llevar a The Outsider a una nueva casa televisiva. Espero que sí, porque es una historia agradable.
