Imagine that you are drinking a cup of coffee with a friend, perhaps talking about sports and the frenzied defeat of a soccer team. At some point when you sip some of the caffeine and look up at your partner he is gone, there is not a single trace of his whereabouts. You go out into the street and hear screams and cries, because many other people also disappeared without explanation. Cars crash into trees, utility poles, and sidewalks without their drivers. Babies disappear from their mothers' arms and many families are left without some of their members. Panic, horror, uncertainty and many unknowns. Some say they ascended, others that they were kidnapped, a few others think it is a conspiracy ... the real question is where did they go?
The Leftovers is a dramatic story with some hints of mystery, tragedy and a tiny spark of fantasy. The thread of action encompasses the harsh reality that the world must live after the disappearance of 2% of the global population, a very small amount, perhaps, but with countless consequences. Three years after this catastrophic event known as The Ascension, the Garvey family faces the harsh reality of the separation and slow destruction of its members. The Garveys are one of the few families who have not suffered losses after Ascension, yet the shock and crying of others seemed to affect them. Kevin, father of the family, will have to face the difficult dilemma of loneliness and mental illness that awakens with it. Will he still have a chance to rescue what little is left of that happy, committed policeman who loves morning jogs and cigarettes?

The Leftovers es una historia dramática con algunos toques de misterio, tragedia y una minúscula chispa de fantasía. El hilo de la acción abarca la dura realidad que debe vivir el mundo tras la desaparición del 2% de la población global, una cantidad muy pequeña, tal vez, pero con consecuencias incontables. Tres años después de este catastrófico evento conocido como La Ascensión, la familia Garvey enfrenta la dura realidad de la separación y lenta destrucción de sus integrantes. One of the most important themes that I found in this television series is the loss and the pain that goes with it. I am not only referring to the physical absence, but also the emotional one. The world of The Leftovers is tragic, curious and somewhat tangible. 140 million people have disappeared and an irreparable void remained in society. The memory is the only way out for so many tears and blows to the chest. The Garveys are the closest example of that irony of absence, one that materializes in resignation to hopelessness. We see a family that was apparently happy collapse. They weren't really happy; they just faked smiles at the exhaustion that was marked on their cheeks. They needed a little push to fall into the void, and Ascension helped them bring out those feelings and emotions subtly sealed within their hearts. The Garveys also suffered losses, though not at the hands of fate, but by their own decisions.
This HBO drama frames an apocalypse that everyone waits for but still does not arrive. The end of the world has always been among our dialogues and hopes; however, the reality is different. Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof play with the different nuances of the human personality to put together a tragic and moving context, using black comedy and irony to reflect that internal struggle that human beings experience when they seek to overcome some event that marked their life. . There is no alternative escape from pain that does not pass through acceptance of reality, and The Leftovers strives to remind us with highly allegorical scenes and decadent personalities.

The characters in The Leftovers are not flat. One of the most emblematic characteristics of these is the complexity of their attitudes and their dramatic needs. They do not follow a moral model, they simply seek to adapt to a reality that they detest. We see a mother who has given up everything to atone for guilt as an escape route from pain and loss. There is also the policeman who hides a beast that appears while he sleeps, but as a good sleepwalker he barely remembers that he caused some deaths and havoc. On the other hand we see a woman who has tried to adapt to the irreparable disappearance of her entire family, feigning smiles under sad and inconsolable lips. Each of the protagonists connects in some way, although with different backgrounds and problems. Everyone seeks to fill that gap inside them, although aware of it, they do everything possible so that it is not.
Los personajes en The Leftovers no son planos. Una de las características más emblemáticas de éstos es la complejidad de sus actitudes y sus necesidades dramáticas. Kevin Garvey
Kevin had been a happy cop. He would get up in the morning and after jogging, sweating a few miles and doing the odd mischief behind his wife, he would return home to pet his dog, kiss his beloved wife, advise his children and return to the patrol to arrest some criminals. Fearful of suffering from his father's madness disorder, he has been afraid that his dreams will be his worst nightmare. The dead chase him, the guilt chase him, and that strange place he travels to only leaves more questions in his neurons. Is Kevin really crazy? His wife has left him, his children hate him and now, when his life took a new direction, his madness began to eat him up. Kevin will really need a miracle to get back to the "normal" life that he once pretended to have.

She perhaps she valued her dreams more than hers, her own children, and her guilt will not leave her alone. Nora will live clinging to recover everything she lost.

Atrás quedó su familia, la psicóloga amable y de buenos consejos decidió sellar su boca bajo el silencio y un atuendo blanco de pies a cabeza. The Leftovers is one of those television series that does not seek to explain the cause, but rather focuses on the consequence. It is a story that addresses the characters, their internal conflicts and their various aspirations in a world that has suffered irreplaceable loss. It is a somewhat beautiful, moving and engaging drama. Over three seasons you learn about overcoming, pain and love as the most feasible method to restart a life. We are talking about an environment where faith is questioned and at the same time, it is the only answer to so many questions. Loneliness is implicit in every dialogue and scene, and memories are the most dangerous poison to supplement the sorrows.
Despite the fact that very little is explained about the origin of the disappearance of 2% of the world's population, the orientation of the story to narrate the overcoming of the characters fills in this aspect and makes it unnecessary. We are human beings, and obviously we want everything to be explained to us, however there are facts that simply cannot be revealed before our eyes and we have to resign ourselves to such a situation. Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof show us a touch of reality in this wonderful fiction. We already know some of Lindelof's work with other stories like Watchmen, and certainly his strength is creating characters that do not follow a straight thread, but curve into unexpected shapes. There is some mysticism in this work, although not at all exaggerated. The miracle transcends beyond the biblical, religious or apocalyptic message, because it reveals a message closer to the mind of man. Everything is in what we believe and in the faith that we put to make it happen.

Es una historia que aborda a los personajes, sus conflictos internos y sus diversas aspiraciones en un mundo que ha sufrido una pérdida irremplazable. Es un drama algo hermoso, conmovedor y atractivo. A lo largo de tres temporadas aprendes sobre la superación, el dolor y el amor como método más factible para reiniciar una vida. Hablamos de un entorno donde la fe se cuestiona y a la vez, resulta la única respuesta ante tantas preguntas. La soledad está implícita en cada diálogo y escena, y los recuerdos son el veneno más peligroso para suplir las penas.
A pesar de que muy poco se explica sobre el origen de la desaparición del 2% de la población mundial, la orientación de la historia a narrar la superación de los personajes rellena este aspecto y lo hace innecesario. Somos seres humanos, y obviamente queremos que nos expliquen todo, sin embargo hay hechos que simplemente no pueden develarse ante nuestros ojos y hay que resignarse ante tal situación. Tom Perrotta y Damon Lindelof nos muestran un toque de la realidad en esta ficción maravillosa. Ya conocemos algo del trabajo de Lindelof con otras historias como Watchmen, y ciertamente, su fuerte es crear personajes que no siguen un hilo recto, sino que se curvan hasta conseguir formas inesperadas. Hay algo de misticismo es esta obra, aunque para nada exagerado. El milagro trasciende más allá del mensaje bíblico, religioso o apocalíptico, porque nos devela un mensaje más cercano a la mente del hombre. Todo está en lo que creemos y en la fe que pongamos para hacerlo realidad.

We hope for a biblical feat that will reorder existence, but we do not realize that this will happen only if we do our part. The world does not need to end to become better, because it will only change when we get ready to be "better people." But what is it that makes us good? How to achieve happiness when everything around you seems to take it away from you? Tom Perrotta and Damon Lindelof teach us something about life in this story of absences and coexistence. The philosophy of The Leftovers investigates humanity in a somewhat strange way, however, as incoherent and somewhat fanciful as it may seem, it is worth reflecting on.
I could not finish my opinion without referring to the most relevant actions in my opinion. Personally, the one I liked the most was Carrie Coon, who knew how to reflect nostalgia and sarcasm in Nora, who was my favorite character. In addition, Justin Theroux also molded Kevin very well, whose personality is complex and at the same time mysterious, something that goes beyond the muscles and the appearance with which an actor is usually identified. The soundtrack is another of the strengths of the story, managed under the ear of Max Richter, whose sound technique led him to win an Oscar for the film "The Arrival". Something that I did not like was the slowness of some episodes, the stagnation of the plot and the somewhat mediocre resolution of some conflicts. Beyond that, I think it's a nice story.
No hablamos de una historia sobre el fin del mundo, más bien presenciamos que el mundo es individual, depende de cada persona que en él convive. Esperamos una hazaña bíblica que reordene la existencia, pero no entramos en cuenta que eso sucederá solo si nosotros ponemos de nuestra parte. El mundo no necesita acabarse para hacerse mejor, porque únicamente cambiará cuando nosotros nos dispongamos a ser “mejores personas”. Pero ¿Qué es lo que nos haces buenos? ¿Cómo alcanzar la felicidad cuando todo lo que te rodea parece quitártela? Tom Perrotta y Damon Lindelof nos enseñan algo de la vida en esta historia de ausencias y coexistencia. La filosofía de The Leftovers indaga de una manera algo extraña sobre la humanidad, sin embargo, por muy incoherente y algo fantasioso que parezca, vale la pena reflexionar sobre ella.
No podría terminar mi opinión sin referirme a las actuaciones más relevantes según mi criterio. Personalmente, la que más me gustó fue la de Carrie Coon, quien supo reflejar la nostalgia y el sarcasmo en Nora, quien fue mi personaje favorito. Algo que no me gustó fue la lentitud de algunos episodios, el estancamiento de la trama y la resolución algo mediocre de algunos conflictos. Más allá de eso, creo que es una historia agradable.

I love this series so much, so much! It is definitely one of my favorites, incredibly well written and directed, impeccable soundtrack, top-notch performances and ends up in a well-defined way, without leaving loose ends! Great choice!
I thought that this television series would not go very far, however, as the episodes went by, it could be seen that it is a wonderfully crafted story. I liked the resolution he had because it reminded me of that popular phrase that says: "blessed is he who believes and does not see." Nora and Kevin knew how to prove it.Greetings.
I watched this series a few years ago and it was awesome. The soundtrack really elevates the intensity of some scenes, in fact, the soundtrack was one of my favorite things about the series along with the original plot of course.
