Guilt is the only feeling that reveals the true nature in the heart of humanity.

Dominick Birdsey gets the news at his routine job as a house painter: his brother has taken off an arm. They are twins, but they don't share much in common. One is a true paranoid, the other is a seemingly normal guy with unusual problems. Putting the paint and brush aside, Dom, as his compadres call him, leaves for the hospital in his old truck to corroborate the unexpected mutilation of his brother. The overgrown beard on his chin and disheveled hair suggest that Dom is not emotionally well. He has fought to protect Thomas from any danger, but his brother, more than a hopeless case, is a veritable torment in his delusions of Armageddon and nuclear wars. But this time Thomas has unleashed a malaise that will set Dominick against guilt and guilt.

The brothers are there to support each other, has Dom really helped Thomas in his terrible illness? Perhaps, in his eagerness to protect him, Dominick has only led to his own destruction ...

Dear friends at Movies And TV Shows, this time, I will share with you a review about an HBO miniseries that froze my gut. It is about a drama called "I Know This Much Is True", based on the homonymous book of Wally Lamb with the same name. When I saw actor Mark Ruffalo starring in this story I said to myself "I must see it", because I had not seen Ruffalo playing another acting role different from the typical Marvel Hulk for a long time. This time, it was Mark's turn to represent two twins whose life played dirty. It is a tragic drama with much to shock you, both for the harsh questioning of its characters and the difficult reality in which the scenes are inspired. Here the conflict is highly psychological, the need is emotional and the overcoming passes through the point of "self-forgiveness."

The story deals with the life of Dominick Birdsey, an impulsive and arrogant man who faces the difficult illness of his brother and twin Thomas Birdsey, who at an early age developed paranoid schizophrenia. The turning point of this miniseries comes when Thomas decides to go to a library and cut his arm in front of restless readers. After the fact, a sentence forces Thomas to be confined in a maximum security sanatorium, so his brother Dominick, dissatisfied with the decision, does not hesitate to reject the unfair verdict that lists his twin as an imminent danger to society . Then, in his eagerness to rescue Thomas, Dominick relives his painful past and begins to suspect that he, too, is guilty of the misfortunes that ultimately drove his brother to madness.

Thomas was always shy, quiet, and repressed. His brother Dom his was the only true friend he had in his entire life, despite the fact that he also decided to get away from him when he needed him most. His voices speak to him, tell him that he is the only one who can rescue his country from his bloody past. War haunts him, as well as CIA agents who enter his room at night to silence him. They are not delusions, because for him everything is very real. His stepfather Ray hated him for decades, but Thomas never hated him, even asking about his in the wildest situations. Thomas, as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and the holy word, will perform a sacrifice to wash away the sins of the nation from him. What is his arm compared to saving a country full of enemies?

Ray Birdsey

John Procaccino as Ray Birdsey Source-Fuente

Ray was tasked with raising twins that weren't his. "You are a good man" they told him, and he believed so, although some Marines know little about parenting and family love. He then took them home and there he was in charge of educating them with the harshest teachings. This Thomas was a hopeless case, but Ray did what he could, even if the boy went crazy in the end. The life of a father is difficult, and even more so when you are not the real father. Still, Ray gave his heart to those offspring, in his somewhat crude way, but he did. And when the gray came, he began to reflect on how tough he was and has been all along. Can they forgive him? It is something that only Dominick can dare to do.

Lisa Sheffer

The role of a social worker is to always be objective, but when Lisa Sheffer met Thomas and Dominick Birdsey, all of her objectivity took a back seat. She has the difficult job of advocating for a Thomas for whom things didn't turn out very well. Dominick turns out to be a jerk sometimes, but Lisa gets it; she knows that Dom only wants well-being for his brother. It is difficult to deal with a system that sees everything different as a potential threat, however, there will always be an error that challenges the algorithm. Lisa Shefer will have a lot to do to save two brothers who undoubtedly suffer in different ways.

Dessa was always there for Dominick, even when he wasn't around. Her love was able to overcome some difficulties, but not with the sour fact of loss. She remembers the crib, the stuffed animals, and the tears that came from her eyes. She was never the same, because inside her chest was an irreplaceable agony. And when she was finally able to replace him, when her life returned to the position of a "second chance", her husband, or her ex-husband Domininck, came out with overwhelming news that quickly ended up separating them. After many years, the ashes of that love still burn, but this time the fire is more difficult to light.

Mi opinión acerca de I Know This Much Is True

I will start with the plot of the story, which in my personal opinion was completely dynamic. The dramatic threads move around Dominick, and from there an argument unfolds that makes you suffer and reflect a lot on guilt. From the first moment Dom tells us about his life, he confesses to us that burden that subjects his conscience to remorse. He is the one who suffers from madness, despite the fact that his twin brother has the diagnosis. There is a bit of mystery, the kind that seek to reveal the paternal identity, which hooks us episode after episode. The background: war, both warlike and emotional. References to the Vietnam wars are notable, even in Thomas's upset. All part of that isolated event, of that conflict several kilometers away, and that is really impressive. Derek Cianfrance weaves the scenes under the psychological aspect of the characters, which allows I Know This Much Is True to be “A delusional adventure through the complex world of lineage, compassion and forgiveness”.

Mark Ruffalo handled two pieces of the same mold complexly by embodying the Birdsey brothers. We looked at him scruffy, impulsive, and emotionally rude on both Thomas and Dominick, and even though both brothers were psychologically different, they were both delusional in their own problems. During each episode we watch Ruffalo squeeze every facet of his character, captivating us with a variety of emotions. At some point you come to hate Dom, you see him as a hopeless man. But in others you feel sorry for him and even feel close to his hard problems. The construction of Dominick by this actor is multifaceted, which gives a lot of realism to the staging. In the end, you manage to find that peace with him, and somehow you breathe after an emotional resolution. The story manages to connect with you and also teach you something about overcoming.

This miniseries manages to meet expectations, it even embraces the viewer's emotions. There are 6 episodes that keep you glued to the television, without wanting to let you run away with its devastating rhythm. The irony and impudence are present in each scene, and something of a humor exploited by the clumsy decisions of some characters. I really liked it, and it even touched me a bit. I Know This Much Is True is the most accurate verdict on forgiveness. The rule that the story exposes is basic: to forgive, you must first forgive yourself.

I Know This Much Is True es el veredicto más certero sobre el perdón.

The Birdsey brothers have more in common than the fateful problems they face. In their lives you will find a reason to know yourself, value yourself, and appreciate all those who love you even if you look at them from the corner of your eye. This Drama will make you suffer, sigh and even want to go beyond the screen to comfort the characters. Here, madness has another meaning. Sometimes you need some dementia to understand that this accumulation of facts that we call "life" is nothing more than a path that we all travel with pain, suffering, requests but above all "love".
