Best regards to all... As the second part of A Quiet Place is being released, I wanted to review the first installment so that those of you who haven't seen it can know what it's all about, as the second part picks up directly where the previous one ended.

First, this cinematic gem was directed by John Krasinski who also stars in the same film as Lee Abbott and features Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott, Lee's wife and mother of his four children.

The film was released in 2018 and was a success it was named as one of the best films of 2018, managing to collect many film awards. It also grossed worldwide more than $340 million.

A place in silence is a super special movie, as it awakens various emotions when watching among which highlights anxiety, fear pain, and despair, it is a film with constant suspense as they do not explain much from the beginning what happened and as it begins in silence you can despair of not hearing anything, in fact, the first time I saw it I thought I had damaged my PC.

The plot

A place in silence begins in a post-apocalyptic world, where you can see that there are no people in the cities as they have been completely deserted, suddenly enter the scene the Abbott family of 5 members, they are in a store looking for supplies but everything is done in absolute silence, even the footsteps cover them with sand so you do not hear anything.

The youngest child, Beau Abbott, takes a toy space shuttle but it is quickly taken away by his father and through sign language, he tells him that it is too noisy and dangerous. But when they leave the store the oldest daughter who is deaf and mute gives it back to him, but while they are on the way home little Beau puts the batteries in the toy that turns on making a lot of noise, then we see how Lee the father, is very distressed and begins to run to his son and sees towards the forest and notices that a creature that manages to reach and kill Beau is approaching at full speed.

A long time later the family finds themselves leading a normal life but they are still not making any noise, the mother Evelyn is pregnant and the father is still focused on the welfare of his family, but he blames himself for not having saved his son that's why the family always looks dull or without much joy.

But everything starts to turn upside down after Lee goes out with his son to forage for food in a nearby river, Evelyn stays with the older girl while she does chores around the house. When Lee is at a waterfall with her son she starts talking to him as she has discovered that the sound of the waterfall masks any sound they might make so they shout and start talking a lot of things.

While lee is with his son, Evelyn is seen in a basement dragging a sack of laundry and while carrying it up a ladder she doesn't realize she has picked up a nail, so when she goes back down to the basement she nails it in her foot making a slight noise as some picture frames fall, and immediately a creature is seen entering the house attracted by the sound. Also, having had that accident Evelyn's time to give birth is accelerated and the labor begins, her husband knowing that this occasion will occur much noise has prepared a series of fireworks to hide the cries of childbirth.

While all this is happening Lee with her son, when they are on their way home they meet a very old man whose wife was killed by a creature, so very hurt he starts to scream and the creature kills him too, Lee takes her son so that he does not see anything and they run to the house, then they realize that Evelyn has activated some red lights that indicate that she is in labor.

So the boy runs inside the house with the mother who asks him to activate the fireworks, but the father goes out to look for his daughter Regan who is in the grave that was made for Beau in the place where he died.

Regan seeing the fireworks realizes something is wrong so she decides to rush back to the house, on the way she meets her father who tells her signals her to run hide, so she with her brother hide on top of a barn but the creatures quickly climb up and start attacking them to kill them, but after falling inside the barn Regan realizes that the creatures are very sensitive to high-frequency sounds.

After Regan and Marcus cried to escape alive from the barn attack, they meet their father but the creature comes back seriously injuring Lee, so his sons quickly get into a van to avoid the creature attack, lee gets up from the ground and sacrifices himself for his sons to escape and get into the house, so after saying goodbye to his sons he screams very loud so the creature attacks him and his sons escape.

Back in the house, the children meet with their mother and tell her everything that just happened, but a creature also enters so Regan remembers the damage that high frequencies do to it so he brings his hearing device close to an amplifying microphone and makes the creature disoriented and discovering its soft parts, then Evelyn takes advantage of the creature's moment of weakness and shoots it and kills it.

Then they all watch the CCTV monitors and realize many creatures come running into the house attracted by the loud sound of the gunshot, so knowing the creature's weakness, they turn up the volume on the amps even more and Evelyn reloads the shotgun getting ready to kill the creatures.

What I liked

Without a doubt, the entire film is excellently crafted. From the characters, the situations, and the alien creatures. For example, the characters played their roles very well, the sign language they used was that of the United States and they did it very fluently. The performances of the characters in the moments of tension were very well worked, so much so that when I was watching it I felt that same tension.

The alien creatures are something that I had never seen before, yes they have a similar shape to the zombies in the video game prototype, but these aliens are made originally.

The strength of the alien is its hard armor that even repels bullets, so they imply that even the army could not prevent the massacre, the creatures are blind but have a very developed and acute sense of hearing which makes them sensitive to the slightest noise even miles away. They also have powerful claws that can cut or crush in a deadly way.

One last thing I loved about A Quiet Place was the ending, it was perfect and leaves you wanting to see the second part.

What I didn't like.

What I didn't like were the gaps or inconsistencies in the story. Like if there were attacks everywhere or did they fall in one spot, how long before the human race reached the brink of extinction, if Lee had built a chamber where they could talk why didn't the whole family go in there and talk normally why did they decide to have a baby if after it was born it would make a lot of noise? and even though in the movie you see that they keep it asleep with sedatives what will they do when they run out of them? Did the army try to do something?

Of course, I know that these are questions that can be answered in the second installment since the second part also acts as a prequel, telling the beginning of everything from the moment the aliens fell on earth, so we'll have to wait and see.

Conclusion

A Place in Silence is quite a masterpiece as it is a thriller and horror movie but it is a horror that you can love. A very well developed plot and a solid story with good plots, it is necessary to see both movies to understand the story and although we are at the end of the second part, and although it is not known if there will be a third installment there have been rumors that they are writing scripts to make a spin-off.

I have read a review with many spoilers about the second installment, and although I will not tell anything I will say that the second part is the connection of the whole story.

Primero, esta joya cinematográfica fue dirigida por John Krasinski quien también actúa en la misma película como Lee Abbott y cuenta con la actuación de Emily Blunt como Evelyn Abbott, esposa de Lee y madre de sus cuatro hijos.

La película fue estrenada en el 2018 y fue todo un éxito, de hecho fue nombrada como una de las mejores películas del 2018, logrando recaudar muchos premios cinematográficos. Además recaudo por todo el mundo más de $340 millones.

Un lugar en silencio es una película súper especial, ya que despierta diversas emociones al verla entre las que destaca ansiedad, miedo dolor y desesperación, es una película con un suspenso constante ya que no explican mucho desde un principio que fue lo que paso y como comienza en silencio te puede desesperar el no oír nada, de hecho la primera vez que la vi creí que se había dañado mi PC.

La trama

Un lugar en silencio comienza en un mundo post-apocalíptico, donde se puede ver que no hay personas en las ciudades ya que se hayan totalmente desiertas, de pronto entre en escena la familia Abbott de 5 miembros, ellos están en una tienda buscando provisiones pero todo lo hacen en absoluto silencio, incluso las pisadas las cubren con arena para que no se oiga nada.

El niño más pequeño Beau Abbott, toma un transbordador espacial de juguete pero rápidamente le es quitado por su padre y mediante lenguaje de señas le dice que es muy ruidoso y peligroso. Pero al momento de irse de la tienda la hija mayor que es sordo muda se lo devuelve, pero mientras están en el camino a casa el pequeño Beau le coloca las pilas al juguete que se prende haciendo mucho ruido, entonces vemos como Lee el padre, se angustia mucho y comienza a correr hacia su hijo y ve hacia el bosque y nota que se acerca a toda velocidad una criatura que logra alcanzar y matar a Beau.

Mucho tiempo después la familia se encuentra llevando una vida normal pero siguen sin hacer ningún ruido, la madre Evelyn está embarazada y el padre sigue centrado en el bienestar de su familia, pero se culpa de no haber salvado a su hijo por eso siempre la familia se ve apagada o sin mucha alegría.

Pero todo comienza a ponerse de cabeza luego de que Lee saliera con su hijo a buscar comida en un rio cercano, Evelyn se queda con la niña mayor mientras hace los quehaceres de la casa. Cuando Lee está en una cascada con su hijo le comienza a hablar ya que ha descubierto que el sonido de la cascada oculta cualquier sonido que puedan hacer así que gritan y comienzan a hablar muchas cosas.

Mientras lee esta con su hijo, Evelyn es vista en un sótano arrastrando un saco con ropa para lavar y mientras lo sube por una escalera no se da cuenta de que ha levantado un clavo, así que cuando vuelve a bajar al sótano se lo clava en el pie haciendo un ligero ruido cuando se caen unos cuadros de fotos, e inmediatamente se ve a una criatura entrar en la casa atraído por el sonido. También, por haber tenido ese accidente a Evelyn se le acelera el tiempo de dar a luz y comienza el trabajo de parto, su esposo sabiendo que esa ocasión va a ocurrir mucho ruido ha preparado una serie de fuegos artificiales para ocultar los gritos del parto.

Mientras ocurre todo esto lee con su hijo, cuando están de regreso a casa se encuentran con una hombre muy mayor al que una criatura le asesino la esposa, por eso muy dolido comienza a gritar y la criatura lo mata también, lee toma a su hijo para que no vea nada y corren a la casa, entonces se dan cuenta de que Evelyn ha activado unas luces rojas que indican que está en trabajo de parto.

Así que el niño corre adentro de la casa con la mama que le pide que active los fuegos artificiales, pero el padre sale a buscar a su hija Regan que está en la tumba que le hicieron a Beau en el lugar que murió.

Regan al ver los fuegos artificiales se da cuenta de que algo anda mal así que decide regresar rápidamente a la casa, en el camino se encuentra a su padre que le dice hace señas para que corra se esconda, así que ella con su hermano se esconden en la cima de un granero pero las criaturas suben rápidamente y comienzan a atacarlos para matarlos, pero luego de caer dentro del granero Regan se da cuenta de que las criaturas son muy sensibles a los sonidos de alta frecuencia.

Luego de que Regan y Marcus lloraran escapar con vida del ataque del granero, se encuentran con su padre pero la criatura regresa hiriendo gravemente a Lee, así que sus hijos se meten rápidamente en una camioneta para evitar el ataque de la criatura, lee se levanta del suelo y se sacrifica por sus hijos para que logren escapar y entren en la casa, así que después de despedirse de sus hijos grita muy fuerte para que la criatura lo ataque y sus hijos escapen.

De regreso en la casa, los hijos se reúnen con su madre y le cuentan todo lo que acaba de ocurrir, pero también entra una criatura así que Regan recuerda el daño que le hace las altas frecuencias así que acerca su dispositivo para el oído a un micrófono amplificador y hace que la criatura quede desorientada y descubriendo sus partes blandas, entonces Evelyn aprovecha el momento de debilidad de la criatura y le dispara y la mata.

Entonces todos ven los monitores CCTV y se dan cuenta de muchas criaturas vienen corriendo a la casa atraídas por el fuerte sonido del disparo, así que sabiendo la debilidad de las criaturas, suben aún más el volumen de los amplificadores y Evelyn recarga la escopeta preparándose para matar a las criaturas.

Lo que me gusto

Sin duda, toda la película esta trabajada de una manera excelente. Desde los personajes, las situaciones y las criaturas alienígenas. Por ejemplo: los personajes interpretaron muy bien su papel, el lenguaje de señas que usaron fue el de estados unidos y lo hicieron con mucha fluidez. Las actuaciones de los personajes en los momentos de tensión estuvieron muy bien trabajada, tanto así que cuando la estaba viendo sentía esa misma tensión.

Las criaturas alienígenas es algo que nunca había visto jamás, si tienen una forma parecida a los zombis del video juego prototype, pero estos alíen están hechos de manera original.

Las fortalezas de los alisen es su dura coraza que incluso repele las balas, por lo que dan a entender que ni siquiera el ejército pudo evitar la masacre, las criaturas son ciegas pero tienen un sentido de audición muy desarrollado y agudo lo que las vuelve sensible al más mínimo ruido incluso a kilómetros. También cuentan con poderosas garras que pueden cortar o aplastar de manera mortal.

Una última cosa que me encanto de un lugar en silencio fue el final, fue totalmente perfecto y te deja con muchas ganas de ver la segunda parte.

Lo que no me gusto

Lo que no me gusto fueron los huecos o inconsistencias en la historia. Como que si hubieron ataques en todos lados o cayeron en un solo punto, cuanto tiempo paso hasta que la raza humana llegara al borde de la extinción, si Lee había construido una cámara donde podían hablar porque no se metían allí toda la familia y hablaban con normalidad por que decidieron tener un bebe si luego que nazca hará muchísimo ruido? y aunque en la película se ve que lo mantienen dormido con sedantes ¿Que harán cuando se les acaben? El ejército trato de hacer algo?

Claro sé que son preguntas que pueden tener su respuesta en la segunda entrega ya que la segunda parte también actúa como una préciela, contando el inicio de todo desde el momento en que cayeron los alienígenas en la tierra, así que habrá que esperar a ver.

Conclusión

Un lugar en silencio es toda una obra maestra ya que es una película de suspenso y terror pero es un terror que te puede encantar. Una trama muy bien desarrollada y con una historia sólida y con buenos argumentos, es necesario ver ambas películas para poder entender la historia y aunque estamos en el extremo de la segunda parte, y aunque no se sabe si habra una tercera entrega se han corrido rumores de que se estan escribiendo guiones para hacer un spin-off.

Yo he leído una reseña con muchos spoilers sobre la segunda entrega, y aunque no contare nada lo que si diré es que la segunda parte es la conexión de toda la historia.
