Buenas, Hivers. Sigo con mi fiebre de películas románticas, pero esta vez, en vez de hablar de películas de romance trágico, quiero hablar de una de las trilogías más hermosas que jamás han sido creadas en torno al romance, siendo la primera de esta trilogía, una de mis películas románticas favoritas de todos los tiempos. Iré posteando una reseña de cada película hasta haber reseñado la trilogía entera. Sin más que decir, les presento a Before Sunrise.
Hello, Hivers. I continue with my romantic movie fever, but this time, instead of talking about tragic romance movies, I want to talk about one of the most beautiful trilogies ever created around romance, being the first of this trilogy, one of my favorite romantic movies of all times. I will be posting a review of each movie until I have reviewed the entire trilogy. Without further ado, I present to you Before Sunrise.
"Before Sunrise", estrenada en 1995, es el inicio de una de las trilogías más curiosas e importantes del cine romántico. Dirigidas por Richard Linklater, un director experto en retratar las emociones humanas y momentos especiales a través del género del "Slice of life". Esta trilogía nos lleva a conocer diversas etapas del romance de Celine y Jesse. Dos personas que se encuentran en un tren y se sientan a conversar. Tras hablar un rato, toman la decisión de pasar la noche juntos en Viena, sin ninguna clase de plan, a improvisar una noche juntos. Esta noche sería el foco central de la primera película, "Before Sunrise", una noche de conversaciones y momentos simples, cuya simplicidad es la que le da magia y autenticidad a esta obra.
"Before Sunrise", released in 1995, is the beginning of one of the most curious and important trilogies of romantic cinema. Directed by Richard Linklater, an expert director in portraying human emotions and special moments through the "Slice of life" genre. This trilogy takes us through various stages of Celine and Jesse's romance. Two people meet on a train and sit down to talk. After talking for a while, they decide to spend the night together in Vienna, without any kind of plan, to improvise a night together. This night would be the central focus of the first film, "Before Sunrise", a night of conversations and simple moments, whose simplicity is what gives magic and authenticity to this work.
Aunque Richard Linklater naturalmente tiene un talento enorme para capturas momentos simples pero de gran belleza, hay muchas cosas más que contribuyen a la poderosa aura romántica de esta película. No solo las interpretaciones de Julie Delpy e Ethan Hawke son maravillosas, la química que ambos personajes tienen al desenvolverse el uno con el otro, da como resultado un vínculo mágico que establece un reflejo de lo que muchísimas personas querrían tener en un romance.
Caminando por las calles de Viena, diversos momentos y diversos personajes aparecen en el camino de nuestros protagonistas, para grabar en sus mentes momentos únicos y teñidos con espontaneidad y autenticidad. Before Sunrise es una película que captura perfectamente la belleza de la improvisación, al menos, cuando esta sale bien. Y entre conversación y conversación, nosotros como espectadores nos volvemos más cercanos a los protagonistas.
While Richard Linklater naturally has an enormous talent for capturing simple but beautiful moments, there are many other things that contribute to the powerful romantic aura of this film. Not only are Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke's performances wonderful, the chemistry that the two characters have as they unfold with each other results in a magical bond that mirrors what many, many people would want in a romance.
Walking through the streets of Vienna, different moments and different characters appear in the path of our protagonists, to engrave in their minds unique moments tinged with spontaneity and authenticity. Before Sunrise is a film that perfectly captures the beauty of improvisation, at least when it works. And in between conversations, we as viewers become closer to the protagonists.
Hablar de la simplicidad es un tema importante cuando se trata de Before Sunrise, es difícil obviar el aspecto más atractivo de la película. Y esta simpleza y sutileza está presente en todo lo que esta película representa. La cinematografía es sumamente hermosa y esta belleza se logra principalmente a través de la increíble escenografía que nos otorga Viena. Sin embargo, la química de Celine y Jesse es increíble y esta queda plasmada en cada frame en el que estos están presentes. El trabajo de guión, de actuación, cinematografía y escenografía, son los cuatro pilares que llevan esta película al nivel de belleza que esta encuentra cuando estos cuatro departamentos convergen. Pero ya hemos hablado mucho de lo bonito que es el escenario y la cinematografía y toda la cosa. Hablemos sobre el diálogo.
Talking about simplicity is an important theme when it comes to Before Sunrise, it is difficult to avoid the most attractive aspect of the film. And this simplicity and subtlety is present in everything this film stands for. The cinematography is extremely beautiful and this beauty is achieved primarily through the incredible scenery that Vienna gives us. However, Celine and Jesse's chemistry is incredible and this is captured in every frame in which they are present. The script, acting, cinematography and set design are the four pillars that take this film to the level of beauty it finds when these four departments converge. But we've already talked a lot about how beautiful the scenery and cinematography and the whole thing is. Let's talk about the dialogue.
De toda la vida he sido alguien sumamente adepto a las películas cuya fuerza y magia reside principalmente en el guión y en los diálogos. Siento especial gusto por aquellas películas que se desarrollan de tal manera que los acontecimientos son prácticamente nulos más allá de las conversaciones que se desenvuelvan en la obra. Por ello, Before Sunrise para mí fue como un banquete en este sentido. Si bien Celine y Jesse exploran Viena y van a un restaurante, a un parque de diversiones, se toman fotos, escuchan discos y muchas otras cosas, realmente la magia de la mayoría de estos momentos reside en el diálogo constante que estos dos personajes sostienen. El intercambio de ideas y de anécdotas resulta muy divertido y en muchas ocasiones es muy fácil empatizar con ellos o cuando menos, encontrar estos diálogos muy simpáticos.
Conforme la película avanza, te encuentras notando pequeños detalles en las expresiones de los personajes y en su lenguaje corporal, una pequeña sonrisa, un suspiro, el tono. Todo contribuye enormemente a la gran química que estos dos personajes tienen, y es difícil de creer, pero nada de esto fue demasiado calculado. La magia de Before Sunrise reside también en la autenticidad y simplicidad de estos momentos, nada de esto se ve forzado, todo fluye con la naturalidad que realmente deberían tener dos personas con una sintonía y química tan grandes como la de Jesse y Celine. Gracias a ello, es que se obtiene el hermoso resultado de un romance fuera de idealizaciones. Un romance sencillo, humilde y a veces hasta torpe, pero que representa un modelo de romance tan hermoso que cualquier persona con un corazón querría tener algo como lo de ellos.
Todas estas cosas tienen aún más fuerza al saber el destino de esta historia. Ambos se bajan del tren en Viena al principio, sabiendo que tendrán que despedirse cuando salga el sol (de ahí el título). Por lo que esta película puede dejar un tono bastante melancólico y un sabor de boca agridulce. Celine y Jesse se despiden, permitiéndose ser melodramáticos por una vez. Prometiendo volverse a ver allí en el futuro. No sabríamos cómo seguiría este romance, hasta nueve años después, con el estreno de "Before Sunset". Pero eso lo dejamos para otro día. I have always been a great fan of movies whose strength and magic lies mainly in the script and dialogue. I have a special fondness for those films that are developed in such a way that the events are practically null beyond the conversations that unfold in the work. So Before Sunrise for me was something of a feast in this regard. While Celine and Jesse explore Vienna and go to a restaurant, an amusement park, take pictures, listen to records and many other things, really the magic of most of these moments lies in the constant dialogue these two characters have. The exchange of ideas and anecdotes is a lot of fun and on many occasions it is very easy to empathize with them or at the very least, find these dialogues very endearing.
As the film progresses, you find yourself noticing little details in the characters' expressions and body language, a small smile, a sigh, the tone. It all contributes greatly to the great chemistry these two characters have, and it's hard to believe, but none of it was overly calculated. The magic of Before Sunrise also lies in the authenticity and simplicity of these moments, none of it is forced, everything flows with the naturalness that two people with such great chemistry as Jesse and Celine really should have. Thanks to this, we get the beautiful result of a romance out of idealizations. A simple, humble and sometimes even awkward romance, but one that represents such a beautiful model of romance that anyone with a heart would want to have something like theirs.
All these things are made even more powerful by knowing the fate of this story. They both get off the train in Vienna at the beginning, knowing that they will have to say goodbye when the sun comes up (hence the title). So this film can leave a rather melancholy tone and a bittersweet taste in the mouth. Celine and Jesse say goodbye, allowing themselves to be melodramatic for once. Promising to see each other there again in the future. We wouldn't know how this romance would continue, until nine years later, with the release of "Before Sunset".
