Movies & TV Shows Community Contest #2

What are your favorite comedies?

Here are the contest rules.

Today is the day that you get to learn a bit more about how my sense of humor has evolved into what it is today. I think of myself as a very humorous person. I love making people laugh, even during the most tense of times. I also enjoy letting loose and giving in to huge bursts of laughter.

Much of my comedic sense is due to the movies and tv shows that I watched early on in my life. Throughout my life I have been given the freedom to watch pretty much anything that I wanted. Comedy is constantly evolving, with different things being socially acceptable throughout several periods during my lifetime. A lot of older jokes are now somewhat blacklisted, while things such as nudity are becoming more normalized.

Despite comedy seemingly being under attack at the moment, I still have not strayed from my inner funny man. When it comes to the productions that I believe shaped my sense of humor the most, there are six that stand out vividly in my mind. I was able to select three movies and three tv shows that I feel have left the biggest impact on my sense of humor.

We will start with my Top 3 Comedy Movies:

Dude Where’s My Car (2000)

Two potheads wake up after a night of partying and cannot remember where they parked their car.

One of the best stoner comedies of all time. To this day I still have my iPhone's name as The Continuum Transfunctioner. My PSN ID Thr3EyeMindGames is also rooted from this movie, if you know about Chinese food mind games. If you have never seen this comedy, what on earth are you doing with your life. This film stars Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott back in their prime years.

No you don't have to be high to enjoy this one. As a matter of fact, the first several times I watched this I had never even tried cannabis still. I didn't understand all of the references when I watched it around the age of 8-10, but I still loved it. There are just so many quotable moments in this movie. It was one of those where everybody in school knew exactly what their reply needed to be when you said dude -- obviously the response was supposed to be sweet.

I have watched this in the past few years and it still holds up. I can now better understand all of the jokes, plus its still just as silly and hilarious as its always been to me. Not much gets me more hyped than some stoner bashing time.

EuroTrip (2004)

Dumped by his girlfriend, a high school grad decides to embark on an overseas adventure in Europe with his friends.

This was my favorite movie to watch in the car while my parents were driving my brother and I long distance for vacations. I remember purchasing it used from Blockbuster Video. Life has changed since back then, but much is still the same.

I was around 12 or 13 when I first watched this. It was the first time that I actually had enjoyed learning about Europe. There were so many awesome sequences of events. A nude beach, cannabis shop, broken countires, red light district, absinth, awkward train rides, a ton of real famous locations, and much more.

My brother and I both watched this so many times, often together. It's one of those films that we can always recall. The "Scotty Doesn't Know" intro song featuring Matt Damon (cool story about him here) is a classic punk hit.

This movie introduced me to so many things that I like today. Plus there were tits in the unrated version and I was a teenager. I wouldn't know what Frommer's is without this film. Although none of the main actors are really popular, they will be remembered by me as the perfect group of 4 who were hilarious together.

Old School (2003)

Three friends attempt to recapture their glory days by opening up a fraternity near their alma mater.

Bro humor at it's absolute finest. Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Will Ferrell lived the mecca of every man's dream lifestyle in 2003. Create a frat, compete in sports with your friends, party, and meet lots of hot chicks.

Seann William Scott plays one of my all-time favorite dudes named Peppers, a character I have always aspired to recreate. Imagine a mullett like Joe Dirt except alpha, he would make Kid Rock seem like the bitch. This guy lets Will Ferrell get his hands on his tranquilizer dart. This results in a shot to the jugular and one of the best dream sequences ever, hello darkness my old friend.

This film is probably what planted the idea in my mind to party in college, going so far as to unite with fraternities. Real life nowhere near lived up to what this movie promised. Today I still enjoy the ideas and especially jokes that this flm provides. It's a classic that should be seen my any man that has a friend.

Now for my Top 3 Comedy TV Shows:

Chappelle’s Show (2003-06)

Comedian Dave Chappelle hosts this sketch-comedy show that parodies many of the nuances of race and culture.

Talk about OG comedians. Chappelle was and still is a quantum joke machine. The guy gets laughs on demand. The first time I saw him was in Nutty Professor with Eddie Murphy. Nothing to me outshines what Chappelle's Show was. Today we have Key & Peel which don't get me wrong is funny, it just is pathetic when you realize its an off-white clone of Chappelle's genius.

This show was the first thing that made me realize I was able to step far beyond the boundaries of what the average individual considers to be acceptable. All in honor of comedy. If race is a touchy issue to you, prepare to be touched way too much. The characters that Dave brought to the world in his sketches were so striking. You can't tell me Tyrone Biggums didn't feel real, there are actually people that act just like him because they are addicted to drugs.

I would absolutely love if Dave were given a big budget and made a modern film featuring all of his unique personas from back in the day. That would capitalize his dominance in this era where everybody is a comedian, but nobody is original.

South Park (1997-Present)

Follows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado.

Talk about a show that has stayed around -- South park is older than my girlfriend. For 24 years this show has kept up with current events and presented them in an open-minded, yet comedic way. It is genius how the writers can stay so consistent, I look up to that tremendously.

I love pressing people's buttons just to see their reactions. This show does that, a lot. You can think something shouldn't be talked about, but South Park is gonna say something concerning the matter.

The characters have continued to evolve and grow into resolutions that keep them feeling fresh. The latest special focuses on the pandemic and its bloody hilarious. If your intro to South Park would be anything, then I'd say please let it be the latest release. This show is always on point!

Future Man (2017-20)

Josh Futturman, a janitor by day and a gamer by night, is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time to prevent the extinction of humanity.

This show hit me out of nowhere. I hadn't seen a good comedy tv show in years. I was growing restless since I was still yet to find another unforgettable production. In comes Future Man. A scenario I could easily teleport into and enjoy as if I were in the main character's position. Futterman is a gamer who starts to time-travel with two insane galactic warriors.

There is a hilarious dick swap plot twist that is insanely funny. I mean Futterman blows his loud all over Torque when the main characters all meet for the first time. Moment after moment Seth Rogan's iconic writing is showcased. Timeline hopping mixed with my original sense of humor, this show was a no-brainer for me after one episode. It mentions Bitcoin and Ethereum in various epiosdes.

I'll laugh at anything that I think is funny

I'm not afraid to enjoy comedy. Nobody should say what I will and won't laugh at, unless that body is me. Laughing is a function the body thrives off of, it is best to find what makes you react this way. Everyone has their own sense of humor, you must fully open up to it. It is difficult to narrow down why exactly we are who we are. Writings like this one allow me to reflect about who I am.

Future Man, I haven't seen that series, I don't watch much comedy lately, I'll have to give it a look. Everything else is an excellent selection for fun.

Future Man is freaking amazing, to me at least. It feels as though the show was made for me. It's on Hulu. Sad it was over after 3 seasons though.

Many people don’t realize that Chapelle isn’t really doing comedy. His topics are usually quite deep. I believe that he wraps serious messages in comedy in attempt to get people to listen.

I believe that it was Chapelle show 2 or 3 that really highlighted the deep content in Dave Chapelle’s acts.

I have a hard time watching his work if I’m not in the mood to go down a rabbit hole.

Chappelle does mix his comedy with social subjects, especially during his show. You are correct about that, but it is still some of the best comedy in my opinion. I wouldn't say he's not doing comedy.

"Dude Where's My Car" is not my favorite comedy movie, I think I've only seen it once, "Old School" is one of my favorites, I haven't seen it in a while and "EuroTrip" I haven't seen it in a while, I'll take advantage of it being on Netflix.

South Park and The Chapelle Show, excellent shows, I celebrate that the SP guys are still on the air and even more in these times, maybe Chapelle has already been canceled although that surely wouldn't matter.

This weekend I will upload my top 5 favorite comedy movies.

The movies and tv shows were in no particular order. I do think DWMC is top 3 for me though. I watched it at such a young age, it really left its mark on me.

It really is crazy that South Park has a managed to not get cancelled. They just have such a strong following, I don’t see their fans ever turning on them — no matter what the media pushes.

I have watched some of those but not all. The one that seemed more interested to me was Future Man. Will plan to watch it one of these days. Thanks for the recommendations and you should check Resident Alien!

Future Man will shock you how bad ass it is. It's equally as good as Pineapple Express, but it gets outside of the stoner comedy box.

Dude, Where's My Car makes no sense (no sense at all), and still... It's a great comedy, haha! I can't explain why I laughed watching this movie, haha!

It’s one of those ones where if you show it to the wrong person, then you may feel like a fool. It’s so stupid yet brilliant.

I'm not afraid to enjoy comedy.

Nice! No one should be.
I love your selection of comedies even though I have not watched a single one of them. I watch movies a bit but don't know how I missed these ones.
Any movie with Will Farrell and Ashton Kutcher in it, I'm all for it.
Nicely done and good luck in the contest. 🙂
