Nightly ritual on the weekends

When it comes to settling down and relaxing on Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights, @flowerbaby and I always seem to be watching movies together. We have Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Flixtor, and most recently HBO Max. Plus I figured out that my new Sony tv has a Google Play Store app, which means that I can rent movies in 4K.

This past weekend we watched many movies and they all were pretty good. It sometimes takes us awhile to decide upon what we will watch together, but we have gotten pretty good at narrowing things down which movies are actually worth watching. Every once in awhile we get stuck watching something terrible, but more often than not the movies are enjoyable.

Lets take a look at three movies that @flowerbaby and I recently watched.

The Recall (2017)

When five friends vacation at a remote lake house they expect nothing less than a good time, unaware that planet Earth is under an alien invasion and mass-abduction. IMDB

They show the aliens in this one, that is what makes it worth watching. Most of the characters are often pretty stupid and Wesley Snipes is his typical bad ass self. There are enough surprises in this one to keep it from being boring. It is easy to get lost in the idea of staying at a peaceful cabin in the woods on a beautiful lake. Eventually some very strange weather occurs and then the invasion begins. That is when the movie gets interesting. The overall theme of the movie is what I enjoyed most, the idea that human beings have and will continue to reach their next stage of evolution with some assistance from extraterrestrials.

My Rating: 70/100

What Lies Below (2020)

A 16 year-old girl returns home from camp and learns that her mother has a new boyfriend, one she intends to marry; a man whose charm, intelligence and beauty make him look like he's not human at all. IMDB

This one is full of cringe, but it somehow manages to keep you hooked. Right from the start, the new scientist boyfriend is just straight up weird. It's hard to tell if he is being sincere, trying to sleep with the teenage daughter, or up to something else. The mom and daughter compete for attention, but are they even sure who's attention they are aiming to get? The movie does propose an issue about the fact that fresh water is changing into salt water. Very few living creatures are able to adapt to the change to salt water, but there is one type that is capable. You will surely be surprised a lot by what happens in this plot, just be prepared for some silly moments that will make you giggle or say what the hell.

My Rating: 82/100

Final Destination 5 (2011)

Death returns to claim the lucky survivors of a deadly bridge collapse in this fifth frightening installment in the series. IMDB

Surely you have seen a Final Destination movie before, 5 is the last one that came out. There are talks about FD6 currently being under production. I had not seen 5 yet, so we watched it. It follows the typical story of a group of friends surviving a freak accident and the n one by one they are gruesomely killed in crazy ways to make up for cheating death. There was some brutal fatalities in 5 and I was squeezing on to something multiple times throughout. The scenes do a fantastic job of presenting you several ways that the next person could die, but I was usually still surprised when something I didn't even expect is what ends the characters life in a vicious way. If you enjoy bloody movies filled with gore, then I recommend you check this one out for sure.

My Rating: 77/100

The final destination movies are responsible for many many strange fears in people I guess 😅
You've given 7/10 on The Recall, but I might give it a shot. Looks pretty okay, and I love the actor.

I think that's without a doubt true. The logs falling from the semi-truck fear is the one that stands out to me the most. Also getting locked and burnt in a tanning bed.

The Recall is by no means a stand out film, but I did enjoy watching it still. The disabled boy from Breaking Bad is entertaining to me.
