We have reached the third installment of our series, and this time the selected ones are the beloved Storm and Jean Grey, who played a very important role in the story and had a special relationship with some of the other characters. Both had some leadership within the group, but each of them thought differently about their mutant powers, which we will delve into below.

Hemos llegado a la tercera entrega de nuestra serie, y en esta oportunidad las seleccionadas son las queridísimas Tormenta y Jean Grey, quienes jugaron un rol bastante importante en la historia y se relacionaron de forma especial con algunos de los demás personajes. Ambas tenían cierto liderazgo dentro del grupo, pero cada una de ellas pensaba diferente acerca de sus poderes mutantes, lo cual vamos a profundizar a continuación.

Tormenta, a mother without children / Tormenta, una madre sin hijos

Storm's character is forged through loneliness, since childhood she was quite alone, and her caretakers took advantage of her mutant powers until she managed to be free of them. Once she did, she became part of the original X-men, the first ones recruited by Xavier before forming the team, and there she learned to control her great powers, which live up to her name. This is only part of the background of her character, but in the series she is known mostly as a mature woman, one who has lived many experiences and exercises a certain "motherhood" with the other characters. In the first chapters she takes in young Jubilo who is the typical rebellious teenager who knows nothing about life, and patiently helps her to control her powers, something she had already lived under the shadows of Professor X. After that we see her comforting Titania who suffers for being a mutant, and helps her to come to the acceptance of her condition, there are also episodes where thanks to her firm temperament she manages to "tame" Wolverine with whom she shares very good scenes and a special bond, although in the main universe they never had a love relationship.

El carácter de Tormenta es forjado a traves de la soledad, desde niña estuvo bastante sola, y sus cuidadores se aprovecharon de sus poderes mutantes hasta que logro ser libre de ellos. Una vez lo hizo formo parte de los X-men originales, los primeros que recluto Xavier antes de formar el equipo, y allí aprendió a controlar sus grandes poderes, los cuales hacen honor a su nombre. Esto es solo parte del trasfondo de su personaje, pero en la serie se le conoce mayormente como una mujer madura, una que ha vivido muchas experiencias y ejerce cierta “maternidad” con los demás personajes. En los primeros capítulos acoge a la joven Jubilo quien es la típica adolescente rebelde que no sabe nada de la vida, y le ayuda pacientemente a controlar sus poderes, algo que ya había vivido bajo las sombras del profesor X. Luego de eso la vemos consolar a Titania quien sufre por ser mutante, y le ayuda a llegar a la aceptación de su condición, también hay episodios donde gracias a su temperamento firme logra “domar” a wolverine con quien comparte muy buenas escenas y un vínculo especial, aunque en el universo principal jamás llegaron a sostener una relación amorosa.

Her mutant power is one of the most powerful, with them she manages to control nature at will as if she were a god, something that is not usually missing in anime, as directors always try to "deify" certain characters, and Storm is one of them. The perspective that she herself has about her power relates a lot to her overprotective character, she is like a mother who has no biological children, much like aunts who never have children and focus on taking care of their nieces and nephews. This is how Storm is seen, so she uses her powers mainly for the protection of her loved ones, she never denies them, in fact she shows how she got them as a child, and most of her life she has as a mutant; in fact there is an interesting chapter where through a neck brace her powers are blocked, and she is shown as a fearful and insecure woman of herself, implying that her powers are part of herself and without them she has no personality of her own.

Su poder mutante es uno de los más poderosos, con ellos logra controlar la naturaleza a su voluntad como si de un dios se tratase, algo que no suele faltar en los anime, pues los directores siempre tratan de “deidificar” a ciertos personajes, y Tormenta es uno de ellos. La perspectiva que ella misma tiene acerca de su poder la relaciona mucho con su carácter sobreprotector, es como una madre que no tiene hijos biológicos, muy parecido a las tías que jamás tienen hijos y se enfocan en cuidar a sus sobrinos. Asi se ve a Tormenta, por lo que usa sus poderes principalmente para la protección de sus seres amados, jamás reniega de ellos, de hecho se muestra como los obtuvo desde niña, y la mayor parte de su vida la tiene como mutante; de hecho hay un capitulo interesante donde a traves de un collarín sus poderes son bloqueados, y se muestra como una mujer temerosa e insegura de sí misma, dando a entender que sus poderes son parte de sí misma y sin ellos no tiene una personalidad propia.

I was thinking of giving this title to Bestia, but it fits a little better to Jean, a woman who has telekinetic powers very similar to those of Professor X, so she becomes his right hand, and the only one who can together with him meddle inside the minds of other characters. Her character is that of an affable and knowledgeable woman who knows how to behave in all the environments where she operates. In the animated series she is in love with Cyclops, whom she manages to marry but never enjoys their honeymoon for reasons beyond her control. One of the interesting things is how she stays true to her convictions and feelings, there was an occasion where she almost gave in to the temptation of Wolverine but managed to get away from him because she loves Scott, and this is something that the author shows as a criticism of the society of that time where there were many problems of adultery and as a result families are destroyed.

The perspective of his power is taken in a positive way, he sees them as a gift to heal people's minds, and this is how he develops them during most of the series, very little goes out on missions, he is always at the mansion monitoring everything through his power and the help of an artifact built by Xavier called "brain". In addition to that, Jean possesses an intelligence that leads her to make good decisions, and unlike Xavier in terms of her telekinesis, she can see past things of people that even they do not remember, and based on that provide healing.

Este título pensaba dárselo a Bestia, pero le queda un poco mejor a Jean, una mujer que tiene poderes telequineticos muy parecidos a los del Profesor X, por lo que se convierte en su mano derecha, y la única que puede juntamente con él inmiscuirse dentro de la mente de otros personajes. Su carácter es el de una mujer afable y sabía que sabe cómo comportarse en todos los entornos donde se desenvuelve. En la serie animada está enamorada de Ciclope con quien logra casarse pero jamás disfrutar su luna de miel por razones ajenas a su voluntad. Una de las cosas interesantes es como se mantiene fiel a sus convicciones y sentimientos, hubo una ocasión donde casi cede a la tentación de Wolverine pero logra apartarse de él porque ama a Scott, y esto es algo que el autor muestra como una crítica a la sociedad de aquel entonces donde se veían muchos problemas de adulterio y como consecuencia las familias son destruidas.

La perspectiva de su poder es tomada de una forma positiva, los ve como un don para sanar la mente de las personas, y asi es como los desarrolla durante gran parte de la serie, muy poco sale a las misiones, siempre está en la mansión monitoreando todo a traves de su poder y la ayuda de un artefacto construido por Xavier llamado “cerebro”. Además de eso, Jean posee una inteligencia que la lleva a tomar decisiones acertadas, y a diferencia de Xavier en cuanto a su telequinesis, ella puede ver cosas pasadas de las personas que ni ellos mismos recuerdan, y en base a eso proporcionar una sanidad.

Later in the series she acquires the power of phoenix, becoming the most powerful entity in the universe, and uses these powers in a correct way, justice becomes one of her strongest ideals, and here we see her in battle killing many enemies. Apart from that she takes a sacrificial attitude where she decides to take the greatest risk at the cost of herself to protect the universe from an almost irreparable evil. She abandons the x-men to fulfill her mission and although many people take her for dead, she miraculously returns to earth but without memory. This opens a series of events related to her new power, but they are not worth talking about here because at the end of the day Fenix is an entity that possesses and rules her until with the help of her friends she manages to "free" herself from it.

Más adelante en la Serie adquiere el poder de fénix, convirtiéndose en la entidad más poderosa de todo el universo, y usa dichos poderes de una forma correcta, la justicia pasa a ser uno de sus ideales más firmes, y aquí si la vemos en batalla acabando con muchos enemigos. Aparte de eso toma una actitud sacrificial donde decide tomar el riesgo más grande a costa de sí misma para proteger el universo de un mal casi irreparable. Abandona a los hombres x para cumplir su misión y aunque muchos la dan por muerta, regresa milagrosamente a la tierra pero sin memoria. Esto abre una serie de eventos relacionados a su nuevo poder, pero no valen la pena hablarlos acá porque al final de cuentas Fénix es una entidad que la posee y gobierna hasta que con la ayuda de sus amigos logra “liberarse” de ella.

Final thoughts / Pensamientos finales

These two characters were from my point of view well developed, and fell very well to the viewers, Storm as a super hero of color in a racist society was a methodical character, it was like a direct message to those who supported that absurd ideal of superiority because of skin color, and was one of the most loved by the people of that time. And Jean had a great impact because of her good character, she was like a mirror that showed people's mistakes when they saw her acting, an impeccable attitude from beginning to end, although she became more popular when she became Phoenix, since everyone wanted to see her immeasurable power. Finally and to conclude, there is a lot to talk about the X-men, as each one of them gives us a different message about their own power and personality.

Estos dos personajes fueron desde mi punto de vista bien desarrollados, y cayeron muy bien a los televidentes, Tormenta como súper héroe de color en una sociedad racista fue un personaje metódico, era como un mensaje directo a quienes apoyaban ese ideal absurdo de superioridad a causa del color de piel, y fue una de las más queridas por las personas de ese tiempo. Y Jean tuvo un gran impacto por su buen carácter, era como un espejo que mostraba los errores de las personas al verla actuar, una actitud intachable de principio a fin, aunque agarro más popularidad cuando se convirtió en Fénix, ya que todos querían ver su inmensurable poder. Por último y para concluir, hay mucho de qué hablar acerca de los hombres X, pues cada uno de ellos nos da un mensaje diferente acerca de su propio poder y personalidad.
