VIKINGS - Opinion and general overview of TV series || Opinión y reseña general de la serie

This post contains only few spoilers. My view of the Vikings changed radically when I started watching this series. I never had much attention for this civilization. In fact, I remember seeing the ads on History Channel before the premiere of their first season, and I didn't see anything interesting in it. But everything changed about 3 years ago, when the series was already quite famous and had nothing else to see at that time.

De hecho, recuerdo ver los anuncios en History Channel previo al estreno de su primera temporada, y no le veía nada interesante. Pero todo cambió hace alrededor de 3 años, cuando ya la serie tenía bastante fama y no tenía mas nada que ver en ese momento.

The Vikings series has finished its sixth season, being one of the most popular in recent years. The series is based on what was the Viking golden age, approximately between the year 800 and 1000 of our era. Although the series did not follow the real history 100%, it gave us the possibility to visualize through a historical television drama how life was in Scandinavia and Europe at that time.

It is inevitable to keep wanting to see more when watching the first chapter, and this series does not stop at boring dialogues or slow plots, it almost always goes to the point, once you know something is going to be done, it is done in the same chapter, or else in the next one. This speed with which the series is developed without losing details or feeling that it is going too fast is something that stands out, especially in the first three seasons.

Volviendo a la serie Vikings, hay que mencionar la excelente elaboración de la trama y cada uno de sus capítulos. Es inevitable seguir queriendo ver más al ver el primer capítulo, y es que esta serie no se detiene en diálogos aburridos o tramas lentas, casi siempre va al grano, una vez se sabe que algo se va a hacer, se hace en el mismo capítulo, o sino en el siguiente. Esta velocidad con la que se desarrolla la serie sin perder detalles o sentir que va muy rápido es algo a destacar, sobre todo en las primeras tres temporadas.

For example, Rollo is shown as Ragnar's brother, when in fact they were not and lived in different times, however, this series of adaptations to the series has been a great success in bringing him to the screen.

With the arrival of the Vikings to new lands, we observe the clash and inevitable mixing of beliefs that occurs, breaking many paradigms among the Vikings themselves. It is known that in history the Nordic people have adopted Christianity, leaving aside their old beliefs, and although this is not yet concrete at the end of the series, we will surely see it in the spin-off, which is set more than 100 years ahead.

Of its 6 seasons, the first 3 stand out, although the last 3 are still interesting, and it must be said that the second part of the last season was perhaps a little weak.

En general, la serie fue muy interesante, quizás no es para aquellas personas que no les gusta mucho la violencia en la televisión, ya que obviamente en esos tiempos había mucho caos y los vikingos invadían territorios no precisamente de manera pacífica, y esto se muestra en la serie. De sus 6 temporadas, destacan las primeras 3, aunque las últimas 3 no dejan de ser interesantes, y hay que decir que la segunda parte de la última temporada quizás estuvo un poco floja.

It is true that this is a TV series and that many things portrayed there may not be true, especially coming from a civilization that did not leave many written records of its own history, but one can understand in a good way the characteristics of the Viking spirit, why they were successful and why they decayed. The causes of their golden age, the need and ambition for resources in other lands, led them to conquer much of Europe, but their own ambitions and pride, prevented them from seeing in the long term. Characters like Ragnar and others tried to see beyond these "old ways", but without much success.

Es cierto que se trata de una serie de televisión y que muchas cosas retratadas allí pueden no ser ciertas, sobre todo viniendo de una civilización que no dejó muchos registros escritos de su propia historia, pero se logra entender de buena forma las características del espíritu vikingo, porqué tuvieron éxito y porqué decayeron. Las causas de su época dorada, la necesidad y ambición de recursos en otras tierras, los llevaron a conquistar gran parte de Europa, pero sus propias ambiciones y orgullo, les impidió ver a largo plazo. Personajes como Ragnar y otros, intentaron ver más allá de estas "viejas maneras", pero sin mucho éxito.
