Here are a few old mushrooms left over from last year for this #mushroommonday by @balticbadger

This is old chicken of the woods. Whenever I see the old remnants left over I take note of where they are. This fall I will check and see if it is growing here again.

This is what chicken of the woods looks like at its prime. I found this perfect specimen in a swampy area of Wisconsin. It made a perfect meal.

These are some old puffball mushrooms from last year. I find lots of these every fall and they make a really nice meal as well.

These were the only fresh edible mushrooms I found over the weekend. I decided not to harvest them as they are just mica caps.

This isn't a fungi but it kind of resembles a slime mold. This is a pinecone that got flooded with rain the night before and parts of it got water logged.

Just a couple old shelf fungi. When dry these can be used to make a campfire.

This is a strange polypore growing on a stick. I have no idea what the id is. Kind of reminds me of a leech shape :-/

That's it for this #mushroommonday

Have you ever found mushroom growing on silver birch trees?! The Chaga mushroom?!

I only saw one high up in Wisconsin once. Down here in Illinois there aren't too many birch forests to search for Chaga. I do drink chaga powder in my tea all the time though.

Love to try some! That’s the best tea for anti-viral infection!

Turkeytail tea is also good for that. Regular white button mushroom also have antiviral qualities.

Fortunately it is abundant around here and it's easy to fix as a tea https://www.organifishop.com/blogs/news/3-ways-to-make-turkey-tail-tea

It was plump and slimy like a mushroom, I have no idea what kind of pine cone/juniper berry this is. Kind of strange to see them do this.

That chicken of the woods is prize worthy for sure! Strange how the fruit from that tree did that!

I recently learned there are a few species of chicken of the woods. The one I found up in Wisconsin was the perfect one for eating. There are other species that are a bit more tough and bumpy or have less of a chicken like taste.
