Fungi Friday - Reishi
Here are a few reishi mushrooms for this #fungifriday by @ewkaw
Look at this red beauty. This one was about a foot wide.
Here's another large example about 10 inches wide.
These are some smaller ones just starting out.
These were all growing next to a river under an oak tree.
I suspect the constant humidity from the river helped establish this healthy patch of Ganoderma lingzhi aka reishi.
Here is another species of reishi. I suspect it might be Ganoderma lucidum.
This is another example. These were found in a dark forest area that collects alot of rainwater. They look a bit more dried out as the water supply isn't constant.
The slugs really seem to love these reishi. I love reishi too, you can chop them up and boil them then soak them in vodka and combine the water and vodka to make a tincture. The tincture has many health benefits including anticancer properties and it helps lower blood pressure and help you sleep better. There are many other health benefits as well. This winter I'll try and grow some indoors from a sawdust block. Happy #fungifriday :-)

They do but they are sort of rare. I'm sure these are non-native must have been brought in accidentally. I found them at glen county forest preserve near the rivers. The other one was at st. James farm forest preserve. I've seen them in cook county preserves too.

It was the biggest stash of them I've ever seen in the wild. Perhaps another mushroom hunter planted them there... I only find single dried out ones usually. Do you just post them in the stock community?
I made 3 posts for Stock community yet - a) mushrooms (mostly amanitas), b) some food, c) aloe vera - medicinal herb. you may check any 'index post' to see what is out there. what can be contributed... well, you a wise hivean and blogger, you surely can figure out that yourself :P reishi, I guess, will be a useful addition...
yes, I just provide a post to the community, unite a dozen images under common subject, so that other folks searching the index, were headed to a certain post and could get something useful..
Haha I suspect the mushroom category is about to expand massively soon...
I am prepared and no way feel scared about that :=)
ps. forgot to say -- I especially enjoyed the last photo with slugs.

The fly agaric must be heaven for flies.

For being called a fly agaric I have not seen one with a fly on it yet. Maybe just tiny gnats in the gills at most.

This has the nickname life mushroom since they have so many health benefits. Good for heart, brain, cell repair, blood sugar and fights cancer.

Do you have any vitamin stores there? Most those stores have some reishi powder pills in them. Otherwise they are pretty easy to grow indoors with some misting.
No, there are no reishi powder pills available in stores ...
Very nice specimen! I keep an open eye for it when in woods, reishi tea is so good. Yet to find one though.
Yeah technically they aren't native to North America but they've been introduced enough to been seen enough. I may get some spore plugs and put them in some dead trees to see if they sprout.
