I a in the process of learning more about the Fungi kingdom and one of the questions that I have is this: can a person buy mushroom spores like they can buy seeds that will grow plants?

You can buy them in some ready to go packs. I don't think spores on its own are available since they are just too small and maybe hard to store... not sure about that.

Thanks! Also I was thinking about the following question, plant breeders cross different plants and sell those seeds (every so often a new plant will come out) My question is this, is anybody trying to develop a new variety of mushrooms?

Thanks again!

I don't have a clue! I doubt they can be cross pollinated. They are not plant really.

You are correct in saying that Fungi are not the same as plants

Both the plant and fungus kingdoms have some common characteristics. ... - - While both are eukaryotic and don't move, plants are autotrophic - making their own energy - and have cell walls made of cellulose, but fungi are heterotrophic - taking in food for energy - and have cell walls made of chitin.- -

I guess that I was just thinking that some animals can cross breed, and plants can cross breed, so why cant mushrooms cross breed? ;)
