The next HiveFest meet up location, and the good and bad of toilet tour

avatar

Now the UK has eased the Covid lockdown, things are getting a lot livelier. It feels so good that the town isn't deserted like a ghost town when you go out. However, I'm still very conscious of not getting too near the crowds as the Covid cases are quite high in my region. We have 56 cases per 100,000 people, whilst the national average is only 13 cases per 100,000. That's quite worrying,

Anyway, I've digressed. The purpose of this post, if you noticed which community I've posted from, is to talk about toilets 😊 This community has been somewhat neglected since I started it as I haven't been able to go out to check these important places that everyone laughs about, but can't really live without. See the irony!!!! I don't know why so many people have this negative view whenever the word toilet is mentioned. Hopefully you can look at it from a more positive way and share some interesting stories in The LooLoo Community.

I went out to town last week, and took the opportunity to visit a few public toilets. Many of them were closed during Covid, and now they've re-opened, I noticed they're a lot cleaner in general. At least one good thing has come out of Covid!!

First one up is this toilet in a shopping mall. I took this photo when I went to a town called Crawley, to take my second covid jab last week. Yes, I'm fully vaccinated now, but still not letting my guard down. Often, I wonder if people ever consider the colour used in public toilets when they build them, or whether it's random or dependant on budget. Personally, I find this is a very soothing shade of green. A bit too dark and it will become a horrible avocado green that was very popular in UK toilets at home in the seventies/eighties, and any lighter it would become quite clinical. This was just about right shade.

By the way, look what I saw when I was at Crawley last week. Perhaps we should have our next HiveFest here!!

I can't remember the correct location of this toilet and the next one. One was taken inside the Marks & Spencer department store inside my local shopping mall, and the other was the public toilets in the same shopping mall.

I like the decor in this toilet. It's very simple with white tiles, and a wooden back and side panel. Very classy if you ask me. In fact I would be very tempted to have this in my own toilet at home, it would look rather stylish. However, I think this design would only work in cubicle toilets and not large bathrooms.

This one on the other hand is very basic and functional. Nothing to shout about, apart from the lighting. See how it creates a lovely X on the back panel, adding an interest effect to the bland toilet.

And when I turned round to leave, I was even more impressed. Look at the lovely shadow on the door. The hanger is like a little person, and a V shape shadow sits underneath it. In fact, I may enter this photo in the #ShadowHunters contest. I just need to find an angle to make another post with this image.

And finally, leaving the best worse for the last. This toilet is inside my local Sainsbury. Sainsbury are one of the major supermarkets in UK. Supermarkets are a cut throat business and spending money on their toilets probably rank pretty low in their business. As you can see again, there is nothing to shout about this toilet. Not evening the lighting like the previous one. It's pretty much a functional, do you business and go toilet. Or in my case, do my businesss, take a photo and go.

There was no one else in this toilet, so as a bonus I was able to grab a photo of it's sad state. There were three (or four?) cubicles, one was out of order, and they couldn't even be bothered to put a sign on the door 🤦‍♀ And the worse thing in this toilet, are the taps (I think some call it a faucet?). A lot of toilets have auto sensor taps which are a lot more hygienic. Some have push taps, you push it once, and the water flows for a period of time and stops automatically. This was had a push tap, but it's really really stupid. You have to keep on pushing the tap for the water to flow!!! I mean how dumb is that!!!

Some of those look pretty acceptable, have seen some well... will leave it to your imagination. Public toilets were places we were taught from very young, only use them if you really have to!

!LUV the idea wish I visited LooLoo sadly prefer not too. Have a great day!

Looks like you've found the perfect place for the next HF, even though it's a very small place.

The hanger shadow is absolutely amazing!

That hanger is a killer shadow play. Reminded me of this one during my motorcycle trip to Morocco:

I don't know how you do it but somehow you make toilets interesting. They look like very artistic photographs as well. I agree that the green color is soothing but I think I prefer the white tiles with dark wood accents. Thats my favorite of the bunch. I like the one below that as well

Not sure about artistic, but I thought I'd take photos of the toilet but not take photos of it, if you know what I mean.

Yes I know what you mean. That makes sense. Especially in a public washroom

Covid also has the benefit of bringing cleanliness in public places and a less polluted ecosystem

yes, that's certainly some good to it, plus the wildlife has grown as well.

I hear things have blown up in Vietnam quite bad recently, take care out there!

If the tap should be push the push handle should be on the floor so I can step on it.

I know covid has been very stressful and damaging to the world but it really has given mother nature a chance to recover, beaches look so much cleaner out there at the moment.
