Los colores son en general el elemento mas significativo en el primer proceso de orientación-enseñanza-aprendizaje, por cuanto, es imprescindible que el niño conozca y distinga por ejemplo los colores del semáforo, que le ayudará a saber si debe cruzar o detenerse; las señales de advertencia, para distinguir cuáles indican peligro y hasta la localización de un mapa, en caso de necesitar encontrar algún sitio urgente. Generalmente, los seres humanos recuerdan con mayor facilidad una imagen que se encuentre a color que una que esté en blanco y negro.
