¿Y a pon? que traducido significa ¿Y mi chupón?, era la pregunta que yo le planteaba a mi mamá una y otra vez, cuando apenas tenía un añito. Resulta que mi mamá no sabía qué hacer para que yo dejara el chupón. Cuenta mi mamá que yo me dormía con el chupón y que cuando no lo tenía comenzaba a llorar, pedía el chupón en mi idioma y no la dejaba dormir. Así que, en contra de su voluntad me lo daba porque sino era casi imposible dormirme. El problema no era solo que pedía el chupón, sino que tenía que ser el mismo chupón que ya tenía varios meses. Mi mamá me dice actualmente que esa goma ya estaba vencida, pero si me daban otro chupón no lo agarraba. Yo era leal a mi chupón viejito.

Y a pon? which translates to "What about my pacifier?" was the question I asked my mom over and over again when I was just one year old. It turns out that my mom couldn't find a way to take my pacifier away. My mom says that I would fall asleep with the pacifier and when I didn't have it, she would start crying, ask for the pacifier in my language and I wouldn't let her sleep. So, against her will, she would give it to me because otherwise it was almost impossible to fall asleep. The problem was not only that she asked for the pacifier, but it had to be the same pacifier that was already several months old. My mom tells me nowadays that the rubber was already expired, but if I was given another pacifier I wouldn't take it. I was loyal to my old pacifier.

Todos los intentos de mi mamá por quitarme el chupón fueron fallidos. Pero un día, estando yo paradita en la cama de mi abuela, vi por la ventana a un perro. No se que sentí al mirarlo, porque no recuerdo absolutamente nada de eso, pero lo cierto es que le lancé por la ventana mi querido chupón al perro. Mi mamá aprovecho la oportunidad para dejarme bien claro que el perro se había llevado el chupón. Al principio no mostré ningún inconveniente con la situación. No obstante, al llegar la noche pedí mi tan anhelado chupón. Ante mi petición, mi mamá me respondió: "Recuerda que el chupón se lo lanzaste al perro y este se lo llevó".

All my mother's attempts to take away my pacifier were unsuccessful. But one day, while I was standing on my grandmother's bed, I saw a dog through the window. I don't know what I felt when I looked at it, because I don't remember anything about it, but the truth is that I threw my beloved pacifier out of the window at the dog. My mom took the opportunity to make it clear to me that the dog had taken the pacifier. At first I didn't object to the situation. However, when the evening came, I asked for my longed-for pacifier. Upon my request, my mother replied: "Remember that you threw the pacifier to the dog and the dog took it".

Yo asentía con la cabeza pero igual lloraba, mi mamá dice que eso le partía el corazón, pero ella no podía dejar de pasar esta oportunidad que yo misma propicié para quitarme el chupón y evitarme infecciones a corto plazo, así como también el hecho de que mis dientes se deformaran. Me quedaba dormida un rato y luego me despertaba pidiendo nuevamente el chupón. Mi mamá me daba la misma respuesta, me quedaba tranquila y volvía a dormirme. Lo pedí muchas veces hasta que me quedó claro que el chupón se lo había llevado el perro.

I would nod my head but still cry, my mom says it broke her heart, but she couldn't pass up this opportunity I gave myself to remove the pacifier and avoid infections in the short term, as well as the fact that my teeth would become deformed. I would fall asleep for a while and then wake up asking for the pacifier again. My mom would give me the same answer, I would stay quiet and go back to sleep. I asked for it many times until it became clear to me that the pacifier had been taken by the dog.

Aquí estoy saludable y con mis dientes parejitos, gracias a que mi mamá tuvo la paciencia necesaria para reiterarme muchas veces una mentira piadosa. Y es que aunque yo le lancé el chupón al perro, este nunca se lo llevó, ni siquiera lo tocó. Fue mi mamá la que salió de la casa y tomó mi amado chupón y lo guardó para alguna emergencia. Ella dijo: "Lo voy a tener a la mano, no vaya a ser que no haya manera de controlar a la niña en la noche". Afortunadamente, no surgió ninguna emergencia, salvo a que a cada rato me despertaba llorando, pero cuando me aclaraban que el perro se lo había llevado me tranquilizaba.

Here I am healthy and with my teeth even, thanks to the fact that my mom had the patience to tell me many times a white lie. Even though I threw the pacifier to the dog, the dog never took it or even touched it. It was my mom who left the house and took my beloved pacifier and saved it for an emergency. She said, "I'm going to keep it handy, lest there be no way to check on the child at night." Fortunately, no emergency arose, except that I woke up crying every now and then, but when it was made clear to me that the dog had taken it, I calmed down.
