I had this particular manager once - let's call him Dick (that wasn't his name, nor was it Richard, and he hated it when I called him Dick) - who had more than a small run of bad luck: his wife left him for someone who beat her; he got divorced; declared bankruptcy; had his wages garnished for alimony; she passed away, and his wages continued to get garnished. I assure you, he quit smiling, but he was always fun to drink with.
