As far as my own gaming group is concerned, I've gotta give our Dungeon Master credit... we cheesed our way through SO many fights with fireball spells, banishment spells, and homemade fire-bombs in that campaign. But he soldiered through it all and never took it personally.

Or, at least as far as we can tell. We're doing the Dungeon of the Mad Mage at present, which has a pretty infamous reputation. If he sends us into a room full of beholders and liches, well then we'll know then that we had pushed it too far... 😁

The last time I ran a campaign as DM I decided that I'd be a Chaotic Neutral DM, and led the party down the path of Most Fun For Me. The primarily NG and LG party ended up flooding an innocent village and drowning most of the inhabitants.

I still laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

While not our worst example of collateral damage, probably the most amusing one was releasing and siccing a starving bear on some bandits. We won the fight and the bear wandered off with its tummy full of bandit, so hey mission accomplished! But after the game our DM told us that we'd given it a taste for human flesh, and so it would terrorize the surrounding villages for the rest of its days. The paladin didn't like it, but most of us neutral and chaotic neutral types thought it was funny as hell... 😂
