Ah yes, the subtle path of discretion & caution. Our own gaming group has heard rumors & legends of such methods, told by grizzled veterans in seedy taverns. Can you imagine? Instead of barging into every dungeon room swords-a-slashing and fireballs-a-blasting, an adventuring party may actually choose to avoid a fight with some dungeon denizens? Or, as some wild tales say, actually try to TALK with them in a non-threatening manner?

I've been running Hoard of the Dragon Queen for a party that includes a lizardman and two dragonborn. I allowed them to RP through some standard combat encounters. The rogue forged some papers, the lizardy folks intimidated kobolds, and some ballsy brashness got them through a few "fights" without any fighting.
