As promised yesterday in my entry about Reggae, Soul and Jazz for @psos new challenge: Music A to Z Challenge #N, today I'll follow up with a version for all of you Metal heads! 😈

  • 2 bands starting with the letter N:

1) Nightwish

Style: Metal / Symphonic Metal
Country: Finland

This has been a band that I've been following since the early days of their career, back in 1997, when they released the single The Carpenter, with both Tarja Turunen and Tuomas Holopainen in the vocals, making a perfect duet of lyric soprano vocals... and a traditional heavy metal voice.

Their career is a very long one, as they've been active for 24 years now... and today they perform with Floor Jansen in the vocals. She is the third vocalist of Nightwish, after Tarja Turunen was fired in 2007, after a series of divergences with the band. Anette Olzon came to replace her but she was already gone in 2012, since her connection with the fans was pretty weak...

In those days it seemed that Nightwish was close to an end. 🙄

But then appeared miss Floor Jansen, a dutch singer who was given only 48 hours to learn the full set list for a concert... and, against all odds, she delivered a memorable performance. They finished the rest of the tour together and just a few months later, the band released a live DVD including the full concert at Wacken Open Air, in 2013.

That's how good Floor Jansen is... she went from a replacement singer to releasing a live DVD with the band in a matter of months. 🤗

This song is part of that DVD and it's called Ghost Love Score. Floor Jansen makes a full use of her vocal range on this beautiful track. The rest of the band are all perfect in their roles, as well.

This performance is so brilliant that we almost forget it's being played live! 😎

Enjoy the show...

2) Nevermore

Style: Metal / Heavy Metal / Thrash Metal
Country: USA

This was a band that I followed for a few years... unfortunately the band split up in 2011, after ten years together, due to personal divergences and conflicts between the members.

4 years later, the lead vocalist Warrel Dane died... which made the hopes of a comeback gone forever. 😢

Still, they gave a lot of awesome shows and released 7 studio albums together plus a live one, which is more than most bands can achieve these days.

The song Believe In Nothing is probably one of their slowest ones... but it's one of my favourites. I hope you like it, too...

If you're looking for something with a quicker pace, I suggest the track Final Product...

I hope you have liked these 2 bands. 😁

That was a great time but Floor Jansen is a very good replacement, much better than Annette could ever hope to be. 😄
