Blogging Challenge Part 04 Day 6 : Good Manners In My Culture

Greetings
Today I was having a conversation with a young lady and she kept raving about her little daughter to me. She says her daughter is so respectful and goes about greeting anyone older than her, even strangers. That, is a sure example of someone with good manners in my culture.

My people love greetings, it's a sign of respect here, to greet an elder when you see them. When greeting, you have to add a 'Ma' or a 'Sir' to your greeting otherwise you're very disrespectful. You shouldn't even have the audacity to ask them, 'how are you?'. They find that condescending.

Some people prefer you greet them in their native language, greetings in English are a sign of disrespect for such people. A properly groomed child should know better than to greet an old man or woman in English. More points when you go on your knees or bow.

A good mannered child has to run to pick up any bags their parent might be holding when they come back home.

No Farting

Women do not have the liberty to fart around men. This is one of the silliest sexist thing I've noticed down here. Men would stink up the place but when a woman lets out the slightest fart, it is tagged unladylike. I've seen women never fart in front of their men, especially the older generation. I wonder what would happen if they do.

No Lefties

A good mannered person uses right hand only. If you want to get into trouble with parents, older relatives, teachers, or even civil servants generally, use your left hand when you're taking or giving out something to them. The left hand is so frowned upon and children who are left-handed are beaten until they switch to using their right hands instead. I really don't know why this vile thing is normal around here.

These are just a few examples of good manners in Nigeria. They're crazy, I know!

Saludos

Hoy estaba teniendo una conversación con una joven y ella seguía hablando sobre su pequeña hija conmigo. Dice que su hija es muy respetuosa y saluda a cualquier persona mayor que ella, incluso a los extraños. Ese es un ejemplo seguro de alguien con buenos modales en mi cultura.

A mi gente le encantan los saludos, aquí es una señal de respeto, saludar a un anciano cuando lo ves. Al saludar, debe agregar una 'Ma' o un 'Señor' a su saludo, de lo contrario, es muy irrespetuoso. Ni siquiera deberías tener la audacia de preguntarles, '¿cómo estás?'. Encuentran eso condescendiente.

Algunas personas prefieren que los saludes en su idioma nativo, los saludos en inglés son una falta de respeto hacia esas personas. Un niño bien arreglado debería saber que no debe saludar a un anciano o una anciana en inglés. Más puntos cuando te arrodillas o haces una reverencia.

Un niño de buenos modales tiene que correr para recoger las bolsas que sus padres puedan tener cuando regresen a casa.

Sin pedos

Las mujeres no tienen la libertad de tirarse pedos con los hombres. Esta es una de las cosas sexistas más tontas que he notado aquí. Los hombres apestarían el lugar, pero cuando una mujer suelta el más mínimo pedo, se la etiqueta como poco femenina. He visto mujeres que nunca se tiran un pedo delante de sus hombres, especialmente la generación mayor. Me pregunto qué pasaría si lo hicieran.

No zurdos

Una persona de buenos modales usa solo la mano derecha. Si quiere meterse en problemas con sus padres, parientes mayores, maestros o incluso funcionarios públicos en general, use su mano izquierda cuando les esté llevando o entregando algo. La mano izquierda está tan mal vista y los niños que son zurdos son golpeados hasta que pasan a usar la mano derecha. Realmente no sé por qué esta cosa vil es normal por aquí.
