Fishing Harbor and Market at Lamai Beach on Koh Samui Island.
Unfortunately during my stay in Koh Samui Island last week it wasn't the greatest days weather wise but been monsoon season in Thailand at the moment it's expected but that didn't stop me from getting out and about it's only water dropping on you not paint the only concern was trying to take photos in those conditions and that didn't stop me either you do what you can. I was staying in the Centara Resort and Lamai Beach was directly in front of me a short walking distance from my villa. I had decided, I wanted to walk along this long stretch of beach to see what interesting activities, I would come across.
Lamai Beach which is on the east side of Koh Samui, has a 4km stretch of wide sandy golden beach sand with clear turquoise blue waters, lined with palm trees, bars, restaurants and resorts all the way down and normally would always be bustling but today, is not the case although the beach is very welcoming the island has remained pretty much a ghost island since the pandemic broke out and although Thailand has opened it's boarders people are still hesitant to travel, the only foreigners you will see on this island are the expats that are residence living here on this island and the stray dogs having the beach practically to their selves.
It was really sad and devastating to see all these beautiful resorts locked up, hopefully it returns to some normality soon but my main reason to be walking along this end of the Lamai beach was to visit and see the local Muslim Fishing Harbor, to see how these people lived, making a living with there colorful boats.
This local Muslim Fishing Harbor is just one of the many on this island that supply to the many local shops and restaurants every night they are out in there colorful boats making there catch, in able to support and feed there families, it is far from becoming rich in this industry but they live simply and they are quite happy as a Muslim community. They are all about team work surviving and helping each other the best why they can.
In Thailand the lower class, I have noticed really do it hard there is no sympathy or government help for them and are rewarded in a very small way for there efforts of hard work, it was really saddening for me to witness the state they are living in broken down wooden houses and rusted out tin houses with very poor amenities.
The thought of these people living in such poor conditions made me feel like what do, I have to complain about yet walking through this fishing village, I could see they were all hard at work and still had time to look up at me with a smile and a wave while I took a photo of them they had no bad vibes towards me, they were just happy going people making a living day to day.
It made me feel so proud towards these people to see them out here day in day out up, in the early morning out there battling those rough sea during monsoon periods, risking there lives because they cared about there community and families getting there food for another night.
As I was saying earlier in this post the local Muslim Fishing community is all about team work when the husbands have come in with there nightly catch of fish the wives are straight out at there market stores which is located directly behind from the beach selling the catch to there local restaurants, retailers and to there local people.
Walking away from the Fishing Harbor and the markets it's like your stepping into a time capsule coming out at the other side, it's suddenly more modernized, it turns into a more of a middle to high class scene and they are virtually next door to each other this is something you don't see in many other parts of the world but yet they all learn to live with each other, no one discriminating each other everyone comes to this fishing harbor to buy there fresh fish supporting the community they are, a amazing culture they respect each other and support each other, the rest of the world should learn from these happy easy going people.

This is true @tattoodjay grey clouds can look pretty nice at times. I do think this island is going to take at least a couple of years to recover sadly to say.

It was exceptional great to see Koh Samui @trangbaby even though it rained most of the time it did not stop me and I will be looking forward in going back there again early next year after the monsoon period would love to see more of this island. In the week, I was there, I must have walked about 80km so, I do have lots more to post about my experience on Koh Samui Island.
