Located in the Cojedes state, part of the central Venezuelan plains, Pozo Azul is a waterfall that falls into two wells, which have an intense turquoise color, hence its name.
We did this route on a Sunday with a hiking group from the city of Maracay (Aragua state), which is about an hour and a half from the place, they hired a bus and a group of about 30 people went there.
At 9:00 in the morning we were in an area called Vallecito, in La Pica sector, near the town of Tinaquillo, it is there where the entrance to the path that takes you to Pozo Azul is located.
No vehicles pass through there, it is a dirt road that can only be accessed on foot, donkey or horse. Starting the route we meet some settlers with their animals, there are several fields and the landscape is beautiful, full of greenery.
As we move forward we go into a forest. The path of about 6 km, when it is one way does not have much difficulty, it goes mostly downhill, then when you reach the river crossings you do have to be careful not to slip and / or trip because there are large rocks and you advance along narrow paths on one side of the river.
The ideal is to wear shoes that can get wet and dry quickly, but I didn't have them, so I tried not to fall into the water and step on the correct stones to cross the three river steps of the way.
As the guide told us, the water from the Mataguara waterfall, which feeds Pozo Azul, has its origin in the mountains of the Yaracuy state, bordering Cojedes. As we moved along the river, the water was getting clearer and the vegetation more dense.
A fun part of the tour was when a liana appeared, which hung almost in the middle of the river, everyone began to hold on to it like Tarzan to swing or use it to pass to the other side.
The day was quite sunny but there the reflections of the sun came filtered by the spaces left by the trees, however the color of the water of a light blue began to be visible, which indicated that we were not far from Pozo Azul.
I love these types of routes kind of mysterious, in the middle of the forest, where you don't see your goal from afar. Shortly before arriving we take off our shoes to submerge ourselves a bit in the water and go through a part where there is a tree trunk that serves as a bridge.
A beautiful turquoise blue well appeared in front of us and there were already some people enjoying it. Immediately we also took off our clothes, put our things together, someone from the group stayed to take care of them and we got into those beautiful, refreshing and deep cold waters where there are also little fish.
There are two wells, most of the people are bathing in the first but the most daring go to the second to jump down the rock from where the waterfall falls or use it as a slide.
I went to see the second well and for that I swam along the shore of the first until I reached a part that allowed me to hold onto the rock to climb.
Pozo Azul is also a place to practice canyoning, a discipline in which ropes are used to go down the waterfalls.
I stood for a while watching how various people jumped off the rock, they all said they never hit bottom, it seems that the wells are very deep.
We stayed for about two hours enjoying the place. The way back was a bit heavy for us because of the heat, it was like 2:00 in the afternoon, and also because now we were going uphill most of the way, but what does it matter we were recharged with the good vibes of nature, singing and happy to have been in an amazing place.

It sure is blue water! I guess going uphill to get to the destination would have been better as on the way back it feels like a relaxing walk. Was it too much work walking back?
A little, because the return was mostly uphill and it was already noon with the sun at its peak, but we still enjoyed it, thank you very much for stopping by! :)
Saludos. 😄
