Yes, it can snow in South Africa.

This is my way of showing you that it is cold here.
011.JPG

Now this is nothing like the snow in Europe and other countries, but at the Southern tip of the African continent snow is a novelty.

The fierce African sun is known by many and yes things can indeed get very hot here, but snow 5 days before the official opening of the Spring season sounds crazy.
We are in the Western Cape Province of South Africa and lately the weather has been playing tricks on us, as we already had snow in July.
But come and see.

Did I tell you that we awoke to snow this morning?
037.JPG

A snow dusting on the mountain range peaks and of course with an icy wind as a present.
106.JPG

A beautiful sight as most of the peaks were covered in snow.
107.JPG

Sadly not low enough so that the children could go out to build snow men.
127.JPG

And here we were later in the afternoon and I thought that I saw a spot of the sun on a peak.
145.JPG

So I zoomed in and there's the spot of sun at the right side of the picture.
154.JPG

Funny weather that we have here, but also beautiful. The rain clouds are also strange, as we are used to long spells of consistent rain, but no more. Big clouds heavy laden with water crash down and then they depart and the sun shines again for a brief period before the next rain cloud arrives.

How is the weather at your end of the world.
Also crazy with floods and severe damages or fires and drought?

And That's All Friends.

What incredible views of these snow capped peaks! The bird is beautiful too, all fluffed up so perfectly! The colour of a mug of hot chocolate! LOL Is there some growth on its beak? Do you know what that is?

Thank you for appreciating the post @sallybeth23

No, that's tiny iced water drops on it's beak and the light was to bad for me to get a glint on it.

Thank you milady.
I replied to @joanstewart yesterday with my opinion that rain and cold will also soon be in KZN and today there is much snow, water and cold in KZN.
We hope that you guys will enjoy it.

5C here now and also early this morning when I went out to take some pictures of the snow.
Now we have a new warning of gale force winds coming in tomorrow with 6 meter waves and the beaches will be closed.
Crazy weather.

We are having strange weather lately @papilloncharity, something is happening in the atmosphere I'm sure. Keep safe with the gale force winds coming up. God bless.

Yep and I think that mother nature is very angry with us for gassing her @artywink

Not problem as we know how to handle the winds. We strugged at first 3 years ago, but time has sorted us out.

Blessings also to you my friend.

No, no ,no, we didn't take it away as we are closer to the Atlantic ocean than you guys, so with our good hearts we are sharing it with you.
Still the same here, rain, rain, rain.

The mountains look cool with the dramatic clouds and the snowy peaks. The sun peaking through little gaps in the clouds is great.
Would have been great if it had snowed for the kids to play with that white stuff :)

Here we have had a more or less rainy night and now it's dry, but it's quite cold at 11C. The forecast says it's gonna rain till mid next week ... we'll see.

Thank you Hannes and yes, there is deep snow where the kids can play a bit further up in the province.
Have a look at; https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/

I Think that we have the exact same weather patterns and it's strange as you guys in Austria are entering winter soon and we are leaving winter soon.
But the weather shouldn't trouble an Austrian mountain goat like you 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

My pleasure Zac ☺️

Oh yes, I have seen photos on other sites today too - that looks so cool, just like here in Winter ❄️ but the Winter is far away - first we'll have a very nice Autumn, hopefully 🌞
Well, an old goat feels the cold much more than a younger one - just need an additional layer ... or two 😉

Oh yes, your Autumn will be as long as our Spring and then we will slip into summer and you will slip into winter. I know and understand this but it sounds strange to my ears.

In the 60s we weren't able to communicate instantly like this and we knew very little about what was going on in other countries. Amazing how technology has changed things.
Believe it or not, some old people thought that mobile phones were satanic 🤣

And old mountain goat you say and I say that an old mountaing goat is all the smarter and wiser to avoid the extremes. You are not that old and many years more to come before get sent out to pasture 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

I know and understand it too, and I also think it's strange.

I wonder how people could live in the old days when there was no smartphone and no computer. They used to meet and actually talk to each other 🤣

The old goat doesn't like the cold anymore, but that doesn't mean that I'm smart enough to avoid the extremes ... just put one or two more layers on 😉

Strange indeed my friend 😉

Hey, I lived in the old days my man and we wrote letters ans used telephones with winding handles, so the call would go trough to a central switcboard operator that would transfer the call to its destination.
Each day they would deliver fresh milk in glass bottles to our front door and when the bottles were empty it was my job to take the bottles outside and to place two payment tokens under the bottles.

Our take away foods were wrapped in paper and there was no plastic around, so the oceans were healthy with much fish, as the paper was recycled.
Can we say this today in this instant world?

Hahaha, two or more layers you say. Wait until the old injuries come knocking on your nerve center's front door, they will open the door and the old injuries will scream, "Hello, remember us?, as we have come for our payback time" 🤣🤣🤣
Payback in installments over the aged years 🤣

Cheers and thanks

Yes, we shared our telephone connection with 3 neighbours and we got our milk each day from the neighbour, still warm from the cows.

Right, all was packed in paper and there were glass bottles instead of plastic ones.

We'll see how bad it will be, but some of them are already knocking 😎

So now compare that to today.
Whenever Marian put a pin number in her phone, she covers it with her other hand. The phone number is never shared with niegbors and everyone mistrusts each other.
The life in the oceans are dying due to tons of plastic being dumped into the sea.
Watered down milk can only be bought in shops at high prices.

And the sales professionals spin this as that hated word "Progress" whilst the forests are falling around their ears.

Totally agreed.

Cheers and thanks.

At least you get a glimpse of the snow, we just get the rain, wind and cold, Durban is 6 deg C where we live outdoors feels like 2, so yup it can get pretty cold here too!

Hahaha, now think a bit milady, wasn't it you that complained about the dryness and the heat a few days ago. So Mother nature heard you and she sent you the weather that you love, all the way from Cape town 🤣

Maybe I should sit her down and explain to her that we would rather keep our weather here?
But then again maybe not as we like to share 😉

Spring officially arrived yesterday, in the cold and wet my little tree opened first yellow flower to herald in, only really reliable source of information.

Rains will kick-start growth which means mowing the lawn can now commence. Start of seedling trays, much to do after the rain.

Oh yes Spring is here Lady Joan and the fields inland are covered in flowers and snow.
So it seems that spring will have to adapt and open later in year if things will stay as they now are.

I took the old ugly lawn out here and still have 5 bushes to plant, oh and also the ground covers, but if we are moving then the new owners can do it.
