Ocean action in gale force winds!

avatar
(Edited)

243.JPG

Not only the crows play in strong winds here in South Africa, come and see some humans that also enjoy the winds.

We have a cold front that will make landfall late this afternoon here in "The Cape of Storms" and the rain has been coming down by the bucket full in the past few weeks.
Kite and sail surfers were out in force and I caught some on the zoom as they battled the waves.
Let's have a look.

This post is also suitable for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay.

Some real hot action here today as you can see below!

142.JPG

This guy is a real pro because his feet are not strapped to the board!

307.JPG

Here we have another guy speeding along the surf!

145.JPG

But of course the wind creates big waves that he has to keep an eye on!

146.JPG

Nope, he just flies over the wave tops!

148.JPG

Cold and icy Atlantic ocean waters that freeze ones feet!

158.JPG

At least this guy had his feet strapped to the board!

240.JPG

Now here is a question for you, would you go into the water in these conditions and kite surf without straps on the board?
Where are the champions here on Hive?

We have thousands of tourists here every year, but I wonder how many know this history?

"It’s not called the Cape of Storms for nothing…

"Portuguese explorer Bartholomeu Dias named it Cabo das Tormentas, the Cape of Storms, having experienced its ferocity first-hand. King John II of Portugal later renamed it Cabo da Boa Esperança, Cape of Good Hope. The countless captains who saw their ships sink beneath the waves probably would have sided with Dias on that one, but the willingness of men like them to brave the storms made it possible for the good hope of King John II to flourish, and grow into the reality we now witness".

"Shipwrecks represent the ultimate failure; the flipside of the discovery and romance that we associate with adventure on the high seas. Of course, not all of the ships featured here belonged to intrepid explorers; some offer a glimpse into the evils of the slave trade, while others were merely humble tankers and transport ships. But each tells the story of a particular period in human history; and together they provide a glimpse into the rich history of the Cape".

Source

Of course safety has increased dramatically over the years, what with modern ships and better technology, but every so often a boat gets into trouble here in the Cape of Storms!

And That's All Friends!

Something here below to think about;

What awesome shots they guy got some good air in the first shot, that's something I have always wanted to try but I the odd time I tried surfling had terrible balance so its probably for the best that I never did try it, but i love watching them

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :)

Thank you JJ, I was far out on the beach road, but the zoom worked wonders. Here is something that can improve your balance, as you can hang on to it.

276.JPG

It looks like some kind of a sail ski and it's faster than the kite skis. I will be doing a post about soon!

My pleasure and thank you for the tip!

your zoom works wonders, and I have seen a few of those around here they Windsurfers, and they sure can speed along at amazing speeds

Yeah and I like the way that they can fly over the big waves. That one can had no foot straps on his board and I marveled at his balance. But he had a string attached to the board so that it cannot disappear in the waves in case he fell off the board. They travel at great speed in that wind!

Ohh yeah those who ride both of those contraptions have to have great balance for sure, I think its a sport for those a little younger than us

Yes indeed, I almost fell over with the garden fork now, so no, I don't think that "mature" people should attempt those shenanigan's my friend. We might end up with our anus around our ear hahaha.

I think your right and with my knees I know for sure I would end up popping one of them out of joint if I tried,

and funny you should say about tripping on the garden fork, I was out in the garden watching the concrete work going on, and almost tripped on the reinforcing wire

Oh, only one knee JJ, I will be popping out things left right and center 😁

Hahaha, so we go through life on trip toe and not on tippy toe lol.
A strange co-incidence lol.

Thanks this morning I am feeling my aches the forecast says sunny but my body is telling me rain is coming

Hahaha, so true about the body's messages JJ!
I always thought that they should appoint appoint weathermen with old injuries as they would only have to listen to their aches and pains to tell the weather correctly 🤣

I had never thought of that but to me that idea makes a lot of sense

0

Hahaha, but the problem is that this type of weathermen will only have an idea about the weather in their own vicinities, as they would have no idea about what the weather will be like in areas far away 🤣

Well they could make an online chat forum and compare notes from like minded or like achy colleagues around lol

Hahaha, "Hey joe, what does your knee say about the weather in Canada today"?
"Frank, does your shoulder say anything about rain in Texas"?
"Peter does your neck say that the cyclone is headed this way"?

Just some of the chats that they would have 🤣

That's not my sport for sure, but I like to watch the surfers and windsurfers as well as these kite surfers, but you see them not so often here at the Mediterranean sea, because of too small waves and such.

Great post Zac, I really didn't expect such images and thought to see birds, but it's a nice change in between 😁

Well Hannes, when you arrive here from Austria we will set you up for a trip on a kite board and you might fly ocean wise back to Austria free of charge lol.

I think that you can try a shortcut up north on the Atlantic ocean, or you can swing around from here, cross into the Indian ocean and and surf past Madagascar to enter the Mediterranean through through the Suez Canal.

Now you are going to say to me; "Yes, but the Med. has no waves"!
Easy, as we will attach the kite to a canoe with a set of oars strapped inside.
So, you simply have to sit in the canoe and the kite will tow you home. When you hit the flat water of the Med., you simply use the oars to paddle home.

"No food"? Easy, you stop at the coast all along the African continent and you act like monkey.
The locals will think that you are a Chimpanzee and they will feed you bananas.

Sounds like a real cost saving plan to me. What say ye?

Cheers and thank you for the visit and the tokens!

You said you don't drink alcohol and don't take drugs ... what do you take or drink? 🤣 lol
But all in all it sounds like a well thought plan, although I have concerns about the banana feeding people. Do you think they believe that there's a chimpanzee with goat horns? 😂

Hahaha, I drink about 20 mugs of coffee every day and take handful of pills to keep me alive lol.

Oh my goodness, I forgot about the horns, so they will see you as a foreign god and they will feed you extra banana's lol. Maybe also give you 2 young guys to do the rowing for you?
I know that you would prefer two young ladies, but they are not good with directions and you will end up far from home somewhere in the Orient lol.

Cheers and thanks!

2 or 3 coffees are enough for me per day.

Of course, 2 boys will find the right way, but what's wrong with stranding somewhere on an unknown island with two beautiful girls?😉😁

I am a coffee junky my friend lol.

Oh, no, here we go again, the mountain goat and his libido.
Now he is dreaming of a new nation to be born on an unknown island.
Little mountain goats running around naked with coconut necklaces of different colors to tell their ages Hahaha.

Have a good rest my friend!

Oy! And the boat will be too small if the missus catches you in one of those hidden rooms 🤣

No place to hide away from an angry wife bent on revenge hahaha.
I can already see her enlisting JJ's wife and my wife to go and search for the mountain goat. So with 3 angry woman on your tail, even a country is too small, what still a boat 🤣

And of course they have made holes in the bottoms of both of the small life saving boats.

Cheers and thanks!

"HER" she says indignantly; "Why would you bother to visit if you have sold me"?
"Take you camels and your friend and good luck to both of you, instead of belly dancers, you guys will dance to get the camel fleas of your own belies"

What makes you think that I like to be the middle man here between you and Marian 🤣
At least I can plead innocence 😁

Hahaha, this is indeed great fun for me at least.

Cheers and thanks!

Well, she is very right, but let me explain with an example: The former owners of our kittens still ask from time to time how they are and my wife sends then photos. So, just like they still care for the kittens I still would care for my wife 😁

You're the middle man and you know her better than me. If I said something wrong, please explain it to her in other words 🤣

Arabs view their assets very jealously Hannes and if you send her photos he will know and sell her into to a guy that uses women to wash his camels. Those desert ships are very big, but if your wife is like mine, she will escape on one of them and you will get a big surprise when she stops on a camel in front of your door,
To take revenge of course.

So, I think that in order to keep the peace, we should just be happy and keep our wives lol.

Btw. Marian likes your humor.

Cheers and thanks!

Me thinks that last photo riding the waves is a gal not a guy, safely strapped to her board who know where that wild wind will take one!

Rains have arrived up here, today we have had some pretty strong wind, coastal living, new month, moon shining brightly above what more could anyone ask for!

Have a wonderful day Stephen, greetings to the family too.

Nah, if it was a gal she would be in those waves Lady Joan lol.
I have a closer up shot of him, but I don't like to place clear shots of people's faces, especially as I didn't run out there on the water to ask permission for photos lol.

Wind currently blowing at 50kph over here, so thankfully it's not at top speed.
Glad that you guys are getting some rain there.

Yep, coastal living is indeed wonderful in nice weather, but I am glad that we are a few kilometers inland, as the winds here strike the hardest at the beachfronts.

Blessings also to you guys milady and thank you for the kind tip!

The Theewaterkloof dam our main feeder dam is now overflowing for the first time in 9 years!

Ha ha, just had to 'stir the pot' a bit people always assume men ride waves, plenty of crazy ladies do love that sport... Winds take you out so fast, whoever runs the gauntlet must know what they are doing.

We are about a kilometer from waters edge inland, every inch counts when it comes to salt and humidity eating your electrical appliances up, close enough to enjoy but not right on the beach for sure.

Good to hear your dams are full at the moment.

Hahaha, I hope that 100 or more ladies on Hive will enter this stirred pot and then I will flummox them all with a post on women surfers, because I have some photos of women on the boards lol.
I read that our famous South Easter wind reached a speed of over 200 kph blowing over trucks, trees, roofs and what not.

Was at the beach now to take some shots and the sand in the wind stung my face like a swarm of bees.

Yeah, so glad about the dams.

Hope that you guys are having a good weekend!

And these are the days where I wish I was younger and fitter- well atleast fitter cause I would love to have a go at kite surfing, I reckon I'd be really good at it.

I may be a girl but I've got strong arms and legs and would fly- until I landed to hard.....

Great shots there Zac!
Thanks so much for sharing

Hahaha, I just told a friend that I almost fell over with the garden fork today lol.
That surfing takes extreme balance and I will most certainly end up at the bottom of the sea to hunt for food with the octopuses hahaha.

Good that you have strong arms and legs, so you can hang on when that wind blows you to Greenland lol.

Glad that you liked the post and my pleasure to share.

Hahaha, oh yes and of course you are right as usual.
That wind that I was talking about id called the "Black South Easter" and it has increased ten fold in the past 48 hours blowing at speeds beyond the 200mph rate!

A very destructive wind that has caused much damage in the poor areas, so Papillon has once again a huge mountain of work.

We pray for a calmer day for a kind reason my friend 🙂
