Kamchia, where sweet and salty waters meet

avatar

Greetings, curious world explorers!

I would pretty much like today to bring you on a short journey, most of it on water to a special place, a small river called Kamchia that flows into Black Sea, at the Northern shores of Bulgarian part of the sea.

This was my second visit to this unique place, the first one I don't remember quite well, as I was a kid and I was there with my parents, like more than thirty years ago. Well, time passes too quickly sometimes.

The last time I went to Kamchia was on a recon mission, hehe, I was there with a couple of my friends from the photo club, as they were planning to hold there a huge photographic event in the autumn, that was before the pandemic so the event did take place there actually but unfortunately I was not able to attend to it as I traveled elsewhere at the time, as far as I remember.

This place felt quite strange to me, as it is unique in its own way. That day I learned that here has been built a huge complex of hotels and restaurant with some multimillion investments of few huge Russian oligarchs, a complex dedicated to sending Russian children to the sea for holidays. It is true that Bulgarian shores are or were quite popular to Russians and they love to spend their summer vacation on Black Sea. Interesting, as the most of the Bulgarians, myself included, prefer to spend their summer vacation in Greece as Greek are famous with their better service, bigger hospitality and amazing sea food. I guess I have to cover these specifics in a separate article as this is really an interesting phenomenon...

The delta of the river is close to Varna, the biggest Bulgarian city on Black Sea where we help one of the series of photographic lectures where I presented the blockchain and the possibilities it gives to the photo enthusiasts and professional. It was steemit back then, of course. Anyways. We decided to stay and spend one night at a hotel in Kamchia, as the lecture was a success, there were many questions after it and it was already dark when we arrived. So the next day we first went to the beach, spent few hours there and after that we browsed the area and checked some of the entertainment services offered around. We got to a small river dock where river boat tours with a guide/captain have been offered and we bought a ride on one of the boats to check the nature of the river.

(for this photo above I intentionally used slow shutter speed to motion blur the background ;))

Here are the rest of the photos from that river sailing. There are several boats you could jump on, ours wasn't that big and modern, but I loved the feel and smell of the wood and the river which is under state natural protection, by the way. Sports activities like sailing are allowed but any modifications and constructions changing the river itself are forbidden, as far as I know.

People here were friendly, as the beautiful views seems to predispose everyone towards positive thoughts :)

IMG_6071.jpg

Beautiful trees all along the current, mostly willows, with branches and leaves nicely touching the water and giving beautiful reflections to the passing observers.

IMG_6072.jpg

I could tell it was a place, generally for fishermen in the past as there were many improvised private small docks.

Several different tourist boats passed by us, this one obviously using the Irish colors and a clover. Yes, not the typical shamrock as there is a local belief that four-leaf clover brings happiness if you find one and you could have one wish for each one you find :)))

IMG_6085.jpg

Some of the places we saw along the river banks were absolutely fishing-related, others were definitely demonstrating luxury, loosing the original authentic feel of the place. Later when I checked my photos I noticed that I boycotted those places by subconsciously not taking any photos of them :)

I liked a lot the different feel of those old vessels of so many shapes and sizes.

Here is a modern looking catamaran tourist boat as well:

And another wooden boat that one clearly could tell based on a older fishing boat.

Here a lovely couple is kayaking the river, greeting us loudly to muffle the loud noise coming out of the diesel engine of our boat.

Here is how the "main port" for the tourist boats looks like from the water.

IMG_6127.jpg

We passed it by towards the delta of the river and saw more fishermen cabins and boats.

This is the closest point to the delta where the boats can go to before touching the bottom of the river, the beach is visible and the sea behind it.

Now here are the photos from the beach, that is located quite close to the delta of the river Kamchia:

I was nicely surprised to see a wide clean beach with golden sand and walk on it and dip my body into the warm water of the summer sea.

I forget to mention that all the hotels in the area are situated in a large pine tree forest, so the air during the night was amazing and I woke up and felt totally recharged only after 4-5 hours of sleep.

I imagine that would be a good spot to spend one or two weeks during the summer for a family with children considering the beautiful nature and the specifics of the place limiting the number of people there, it won't become overcrowded, I could tell. Would you go and spend your holidays at a place like this? :)
