Cerro Dragon, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador (8 pics)

Cerro Dragon, also known as Dragon Hill, is a craggy hill on the northwestern part of Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos.

It is the home to an impressive population of land iguana, hence the name of this place.

They look scary, but they are not aggressive at all.

Some of them look like they are posing for the camera.

At one time, wild dogs almost wiped out iguanas, but Galapagos National Park and Fondation Charles Darwin removed them in 1990, and reptiles are making a comeback.

Males are orange or yellow and larger while females are dark.

We saw a lot more female than male on our walk, maybe they were shy.

A small path of about 3 km allows us to admire the particular vegetation of the place.

At the top, the largest concentration of iguanas in the area without forgetting a superb view of the bay

The hike between flora and fauna was very pleasant and the view from the hills just magnificent.

Admiring the arid vegetation and that small lagoon thrills us.

Normally, that salt-water lagoon attracts a lot of flamingos, but we were not lucky to see them.

But the immense concentration of Opuntia cacti of all shapes and sizes that are everywhere is there for everyone to enjoy.

As if to add a punch of color, in some places we are entitled to a red carpet of vines as a backdrop to a superb heron passing by.

Not to mention the fact that it is a volcanic island, we can see the remains of it as soon as we arrive on the beach.

I have to say this part of the hike is a little less fun, but it doesn't last long.

eeeee get it off of my screen!!! That thing freaks me out. It is huge, and strong looking, and hyper aware. I don't like him. lol

I know, they look dangerous, but we can hurt them so much more than the opposite. Those who scare the most are females!
