The Blowhole, Tasmans Arch and the Devils Kitchen, Tasmania
Can you see the boat?
This is Tasmans Arch, one of several geological wonders in the Tasman National Park. It was created when a large sea cave lost its roof to form a natural bridge.
Just a 90 minute drive from Hobart, the park is situated on the Tasman Peninsula, its eastern cliffs getting the full brunt of the wind and waves from the Tasman Sea.
There are some spectacular views in the area and great hiking trails.
Arriving at the Blowhole parking lot, we decided to check out the beach first and... it's low tide. We won't get sprayed at the Blowhole today.
And this is the Blowhole, a former sea cave that became a tunnel and is gradually losing its roof. At high tide and when there are slight swells, the water comes gushing through.
Above the Blowhole, take the path to the Fossil Bay Lookout. The path to both these attractions is less than 1/2 kilometre (0.3 miles) long.
At the lookout, it's a dramatic coastline in both directions.
A slightly different view of the cliff, above. The rocks at the bottom are gigantic!
There are things to see in the dry brush along the path. Signs guide visitors to the attractions and describe the formation of the geological features in great detail.
Tasmans Arch.
Visitors walk a safe path that skirts the cliff's edge on the way to the Devils Kitchen, a great gulch.
At the back of the Devils Kitchen, seething water is still working its magic with the rocks far below.
The gulch opens up to the Tasman Sea. Like the other geological features here, it started its life as a sea cave.
