Madrid from the air: the terrace of the Hotel Ríu-Plaza de España
Madrid from the air is in fashion and there are many central places that take advantage of the immeasurable views of its terraces, in order to provide, both the locals and the numerous visitors, intense experiences that make their visit to our city something truly unforgettable.
And of course, one of the most spectacular places that in fact arouses more acceptance and enthusiasm, not only because of the wonderful views that it makes available to its clients and relatives, but also because of its magnificent restaurant service, is the Hotel Ríu- Spain Square.
But let's do a little history before embarking on this trip to the heights and let's comment, even as an indispensable complement to our little adventure, about what this unique place was and incidentally, also think about that spur that they also suppose, their ghost legends.
In fact, in the promotional campaign for its opening, which took place in October 2019, these or more specifically, the legend of the ghost that roamed the innumerable dependencies, had an unexpected reception, being openly welcomed on social networks such as YouTube and Facebook and is It is quite possible that even romantic enthusiasts of the Seventh Art shuddered remembering that film, starring the American actor John Cusak, which entitled '1408', and also set in the enchanted room of a well-known hotel, made him live a true paranormal hell, while playing a writer specialized in offering his audience guides to enchanted places.
Charm, which on the other hand has this imposing architectural colossus, with its twenty-seven floors, which for many years was the tallest building in Madrid, until it was irretrievably surpassed by the neighboring Torre de Madrid.
The building, initially thought of as functional, began to be built in 1948, and was inaugurated approximately seven later - according to what is said, at the time of its inauguration, it came to house more than four thousand five hundred people - and for many years, it housed not only the premises of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, a shopping center and numerous offices.
As a culmination of this historical background, which I hope you have found useful, it may be interesting to add that in 2014, it was acquired by the Chinese tycoon Wang Jianlin, who intending to tear it down completely to build a new one with materials and design of his choice. It provoked a wave of protests that led to its subsequent sale, until it reached the current owners.
That said, imagine that we are already on the terrace, at an approximate height of one hundred and twenty meters and that we begin to get excited, not only because of the magnificent and impressive views of Madrid, which we can enjoy on all four sides, but also the good taste and the elegance of the catering services installed there, extremely ideal to spend a really delicious day in the company of our friends, having as a framework a Madrid that always looks to the sky.
Even if they do not suffer from that altitude sickness, called vertigo, it will be a truly disturbing experience for them to perch on the glass walkway, which without any other support, will make them feel that they are hanging over those vertiginous hundred meters away from the ground and where you can take some really impressive photographs.
From the innumerable perspectives of the terrace, see Madrid from a bird's eye view, savoring a good wine or sipping with relish the most varied and rich sensations of a cocktail, to the rhythm of a varied and modern music, I assure you, incidentally, which is a luxury for the senses.

Closer, as well as to see in detail the characteristics of its period architecture, places such as the old barracks of the Conde Duque, currently converted into a cultural space, a good part of that central Madrid, that Madrid of the Austrias, with fascinating, narrow streets and on many occasions no less ghostly, which always invite you to adventure or that impoverished Plaza de España, which has been undergoing renovations for several years and whose works seem to extend in time like the conclusion of Gaudí's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
Extraordinary panoramic views of the Gran Vía and its relevant modernist architecture, largely conceived by the Madrid architect Antonio Palacios, with the Plaza del Callao, the Telefónica building, the Royal Palace and the Almudena cathedral, which will almost seem to you to reach.
And as you wander around the terrace, depending on the direction your gaze takes, the impressive towers that crown the Paseo de la Castellana or to the south, the Menéndez Pelayo skyscrapers and the famous Pirulí of O'donnell.
In short: the possibility of enjoying Madrid in a different way, from a different perspective and within the reach of all budgets.

Madrid es una gran ciudad, aunque quizá suene a prepotencia que sea precisamente un madrileño quien haga esta afirmación, pero soy objetivo. Una ciudad que merece la pena conocerse, con mucha historia, con mucha tradición y mirando siempre al futuro sin olvidar la grandeza de su pasado. Además, Madrid siempre es una ciudad que recibe a todo el mundo con los brazos abiertos y suele dejar, supongo que como en todo hay excepciones, buen sabor de boca. Y como ves, puede resultar espectacularmente interesante, conocerla también por la monumentalidad de sus barrios, de sus edificios de época, de sus misteriosos tejados. Un abrazo, pana.
