Living a year in Buenos Aires [ENG/ESP]

Hello, my dear readers, this is a story that I have always wanted to tell, but had not had the time or the determination to share it completely, so I invite you to read a little about my journey for a year in the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, where I not only met many interesting places but also had the opportunity to work in different places, make many friends and experience incredible moments, that only in my dreams were possible.

Hola mis queridos lectores, ésta es una historia que siempre he querido contar, pero no había tenido el tiempo ni la determinación de compartirla completamente, así que los invito a leer un poco sobre mi travesía por un año en la hermosa ciudad de Buenos Aires, donde no sólo conocí muchos sitios interesantes sino también tuve la oportunidad de trabajar en diversos lugares, hacer muchas amistades y experimentar momentos increíbles, que sólo en mis sueños eran posibles.

I arrived at Ezeiza airport, I remember, a twenty-second of July 2018 at three in the morning, my cousin who had emigrated two years before was waiting for me, when I left the airport the first thing I noticed was the change in temperature, let's say that I came from a city that was more or less twenty-eight degrees Celsius when I took the plane in the morning and went to two degrees Celsius at night when I landed, thank goodness we had a cab waiting for us that took me to the place that would be my home for about five months. I was fortunate that my family welcomed me with open arms and were very kind to me, the first day after my arrival I went with my aunt to the city where my cousin was living, so we had to take a train and that was where I met for the first time the Retiro Train Station, with a very nice structure inside and an organization that I had not seen before. I remember that when we were on the train I started to observe the landscape and also the people around and I said inside me "this is where I want to be now".

Recuerdo que cuando íbamos en el tren me puse a observar el paisaje y también a las personas alrededor y dije dentro de mí “aquí es donde quiero estar ahora”.

Una de las lecciones más importantes que aprendí junto con mi familia allá fue compartir, ya les había comentado que soy hija única, así que no había tenido la oportunidad de convivir con tantas personas por un largo período de tiempo.

The days went by and spring came, I began to apply to different job offers, I attended many interviews and the truth was that I could not get a job, however, I did not give up and went out almost every day to look for work; I really like animals, specifically dogs and cats, I knew that it was very common to work walking and taking care of dogs, so I took a course endorsed by the government of Argentina on dog walkers, I received a license that enabled me as a dog walker and that was what I had planned to do.

Hasta que un día caminando por la Avenida Santa Fe me doy cuenta que había un aviso nuevo en una de las tiendas que decía que buscaban vendedora con experiencia y yo me acerco a la tienda y hablo con la que parecía la encargada, le paso mi currículo y ella llama a un chico, ambos me hacen unas preguntas sobre donde vivía, cómo era mi disponibilidad, me hablaron de salario y me preguntaron si podía empezar al día siguiente, lo cual acepté y fue mi primer empleo allá, sólo duré unas tres semanas, porque luego me salió una oferta donde ganaría mejor, así que renuncié, comencé en el otro sitio, sólo duré dos días por un malentendido que luego les contaré en otra historia de experiencias desagradables, la verdad es un cuento largo.

After that two days job, I went again to other places to leave more resumes, and this is a pretty weird anecdote that I still can't explain, I was asleep and when I woke up I see a missed call, I call back and it was a restaurant, a pizzeria to be specific, they tell me that they were calling me because someone sent them my resume and they told me to go on Thursday for an interview; The day of the interview I almost did not arrive on time because I got lost ha,ha,ha,ha it was a little far from where I lived and it was not a very easy address to find, in the end I found the place, the interview was very fast, I think no more than fifteen minutes and when I left I thought there was no chance; the truth is that more than a week passed and they called me, they told me to go to the same place to give me instructions for the training. What surprised me is that when I went to the site I realized that I never left a resume with that franchise and I really didn't know who sent them my information, to this day that is an unsolved mystery.

Después de ese trabajo de dos días, fui de nuevo a otros sitios a dejar más currículos, y ésta es una anécdota bastante rara que aún no me explico, estaba dormida y cuando desperté veo una llamada perdida, llamo de vuelta y era un restaurante, una pizzería para ser específicos, me dicen que me estaban llamando porque alguien les hizo llegar mi currículo y me dijeron que fuera un día jueves para una entrevista; el día de la entrevista casi no llego a tiempo porque me perdí ja,ja,ja era algo alejado de donde yo vivía y no era una dirección muy fácil de encontrar, al final di con el sitio, la entrevista fue muy rápida, creo que no más de quince minutos y al salir yo pensaba que no había posibilidades; lo cierto es que pasó más de una semana y me llamaron, me citaron en el mismo sitio para darme instrucciones para el entrenamiento. Lo que me extrañó es que al ir al sitio me di cuenta que yo nunca dejé currículo en esa franquicia y realmente no supe quién les hizo llegar mis datos, hasta el sol de hoy eso es un misterio sin resolver.

The job was as a waitress, four hours a day (I almost always worked more than that, but don't worry, they paid me overtime), one day off and the place where I worked (it was a pizzeria franchise) was in a tourist area in Palermo and that was my first job with a contract and the one I stayed with until the end. I used to work at night, that was my shift, so I had the afternoons available, since in the morning I was practically sleeping. I started in this job in November, I worked several extra days and by the end of December I had saved a little and decided to move to another apartment, I was sharing it with a lady who at first was very kind and helped me to adapt relatively quickly, this place was near the Congress, also a somewhat central area and it was easy for me to take transportation and go to various places.

El trabajo era de moza (mesonera), cuatro horas diarias (que casi siempre trabajaba más que eso, pero tranquilos que me pagaban mis horas extras), un día de descanso y el local donde me tocó trabajar (era una franquicia de pizzerías) estaba en una zona turística en Palermo y ese fue mi primer trabajo con contrato y con el que me quedé hasta el final. Solía trabajar de noche, ese era mi turno, así que tenía las tardes disponibles, ya que en la mañana estaba prácticamente durmiendo. Comencé en éste trabajo en noviembre, cumplí varias jornadas extras y para finales de diciembre había ahorrado un poco y decidí mudarme a otro apartamento, lo estaba compartiendo con una señora que al principio fue muy amable y me ayudó a adaptarme relativamente rápido, éste sitio estaba cerca del Congreso, una zona también algo céntrica y se me era fácil agarrar transporte e ir a varios sitios.

Something I didn't tell you is that during my free time, before having a job and having a job, I used to go out a lot, almost always alone to tourist places, since where I lived with my family was practically in the center of Buenos Aires, very close to the Obelisco, I could walk to Puerto Madero, I was close to the Rex and Opera theaters and I also used to walk a lot to Santa Fe avenue, once I went from the house to the Ateneo bookstore. I had the opportunity to go to several concerts of bands that I loved very much and I have a lot of material that I will share with you in a post about bands that I had the joy of seeing live.

Algo que no les comenté es que durante mis tiempos libres, antes de tener trabajo y teniendo trabajo, solía salir mucho, casi siempre sola a sitios turísticos, ya que donde vivía con mi familia era prácticamente en el centro de Buenos Aires, muy cerca del Obelisco, podía irme caminando a Puerto Madero, tenía cerca el teatro Rex y teatro Ópera y también solía caminar mucho hacia la avenida Santa Fe, una vez me fui desde la casa hasta la librería Ateneo. The truth has been one of the best experiences I had and that helped me grow as a person, I changed a lot and improved in several aspects, it taught me lessons and to value more those who really matter. Although when I traveled, I went with the mentality of emigrating and staying there for much longer, in the end I changed my mind and made another decision, all the events that led me to this great decision you will know in the second part of this story, stay tuned.

La verdad ha sido una de las mejores experiencias que tuve y que me ayudó a crecer como persona, cambié mucho y mejoré en varios aspectos, me enseñó lecciones y a valorar más a quienes realmente importan.
