Hey Hive! We are reaching towards the end of our Koh Lipe trip. Today I’ll show you around the resort we stayed in and the main beach on the island - Pattaya beach. We had some amazing sunsets while we were here and I managed to catch some good shots with the drone. Get ready for the usual photo spam. 😃

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya beach is the main beach on the island. All the arriving boats stop here and tourists are usually picked up by tuk tuk taxis to their resorts after. There used to be a pier that is in the sea where we would initially stop, pay a fee for the island and get picked up by a small boat from the locals. This was only the first time we came though. Now with covid there is absolutely no need for that and there is a made up pier alongside the beach nowadays where bigger boats can coast too.

The main issue with boats coasting on the beach is that the waters are quite shallow, especially when the water pulls back in the afternoon and it’s hard to navigate around without hitting the rocks and corals underneath.

The beach is pretty long. Hotels and bars are spread all across but they don’t take up any space from the sand. The beachline is very wide and there's plenty of sand space to walk, lay on or do whatever else.

There are quite a few boats coasted here at all times since most tours start from here. On the other hand Sunrise beach which was the subject of my first post had a lot more boats for private rental.

The walking street was really close to our resort. Unfortunately a lot of the vendors were closed, especially during daytime. I tried to go buy coffee from the usual coffee shop one of the mornings. The place used to be so popular and nice for breakfast and coffee and right on the main road. Don't think it was opened at all nowadays because even later on when we passed it, it was still closed.

Since our resort was extending to the beach - the restaurant had tables all the way in the sand - we had dinner and watched the sunset there every night.

So on this other side there is a military camp on the hill. This is why all my drone shots facing the other direction are cut short. We were told that we shouldn't fly towards the camp because they will most likely cut our signal and either sanction us or take the drone. I was pretty hesitant flying past the middle of Pattaya beach. 😃

Sunsets here are so beautiful. The orange/reddish colors of the sky mixed with the bright turquoise waters reflecting them looks like magic.

A lot of people just walk around or do some jogging in the late afternoon and evening. You can see different people passing all night, looking for a place to have dinner, watch a fire show or have a drink at a beach bar.

Akira Resort

This is the go to resort for us when it comes to Koh Lipe. The first time I came here I just fell in love with the place and ever since we just stuck with it.

The staff is always so nice and helpful. They speak good english - which isn’t the case in a lot of places. They even remembered me from last time I was here with my mother @nelinoeva . That was almost a year and a half ago.. how mad is that?

The resort is kind of split into three segments. First is the beach bar and restaurant with a big pool.

The second bit is the nicely looked after garden and guest houses. We haven’t stayed in these yet though. Always pick the rooms in the next area.

The jungly garden through the houses leads to two identical blocks - two floors each - connected by a pool. The pool can be reached from the rooms on the first floor. It is rarely occupied and it’s super nice in the evening because it is nicely lit by blue neon lights. Closes at 9 in the evening but you can usually use it after (it’s just that the lights won’t be on and you may have to be quieter because other guests may be asleep).

The rooms are some of the biggest rooms I’ve seen. There is so much room around, no need to jump over your luggage when you try to go to the bathroom or anything. The bathroom is massive and has a bathtub as well as a cabin.

It’s a bit of an overkill, but every bathroom has two sinks as well.

The pool area is what sold me on this place for our first trip. The idea of having this enormous pool right outside your bedroom made me instant book it without a second thought.

Here is one last photo of Lipe as a bonus. Had to fly 3km away in order to capture the whole island. :)
