One day in Koh Samui, Thailand

avatar

Well my posts have been telling the story about our trip a bit backwards. Today is gonna be about our first day on the island. I know it's the last post.. I don't know what I was thinking but I guess if it worked for Star Wars it might work for me with the weird timelines of the posts. ^^
Anyways I'll show you where we stayed, the first place we visited - 'The Jungle Club' and the infamous Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks - 'Hin Ta Hin Yai'.

Samui Bayside Luxury Villa

This trip was a bit different than our other trips. It weren't just me and Nat but her mom, aunt, uncle, as well as her cousins with their wives and one little kid. That's why we had to get something bigger to fit us all in and hotels would've been way too expensive booking 5-6 rooms for all 10 adults and 1 child. With covid around and no tourists in Thailand, prices are quite affordable and beaches are empty. Perfect for a nice trip so we found this amazing place at a very affordable price and booked it asap. We promised Nat's mom to go on a trip somewhere together quite awhile ago, so it presented the perfect opportunity.

The place was on 3 floors. First floor had only 1 room that was a bit separate from the villa with it's own key and entrance, but still part of the building. On the second floor there was the kitchen, living room, storage room, bathroom and a really nice balcony with great sea view and a mini pool.

The outside area was amazing. Unfortunately it was pretty windy for the whole duration of our stay and the pool was quite cold. We tried it once for 5-10 minutes and completely gave up on the idea.

The third floor consisted of rooms only - there were 4 double rooms upstairs, 2 of them with a sea view and a connected balcony. All of them had their own bathroom etc. Overall it was really nice and once divided between 10 people the price was way bellow what any hotel could offer. There was even an option to hire a cook, which we didn't do since we had plenty of capable people to prepare some food for the night. We weren't eating home that often either.

These were some of the rooms. Was really nice and tidy, well decorated and the view was simply amazing.

We did spent 4 days here and I'd say it was well worth it. The villa is a bit far from the airport but we did have a hired van to take us there, so it wasn't really a problem. Only thing is you do need some kind of transport in order to go around from here. However this is the case on the whole island since the island itself is massive.
Once we arrived we left our stuff, took some photos of the place and left for lunch at 'The Jungle Club'.

The Jungle Club

The jungle club was about 30 minutes away from the villa. It is a resort that is famous for it's bar/restaurant with panoramic view. The place was real nice and the view was really worth the climb. We actually had to switch cars since the van wouldn't be able to go up the hill.

This side area was part if the resort and it looked amazing. The view from it is pretty much what you see from the restaurant just slightly different angle. The edge beds on that ramp look scary though.

The food was nice. They offered many different cuisines but we ended up getting italian and european food for the most part. Everyone was pretty hungry and attacked the food too quick for Nat to take photos of everything.. :D Here's what she managed (meaning only I stayed hungry until the photos were taken).

This was an italian cold plate that Nat thought everyone will like and share. The thing is none of her family even knew what was in there and didn't even bother trying or simply didn't like what they tried from it. It was me that ended up eating it in the end.

After our lunch was done we had one more stop before we went back to the hotel - The Grandfather's and Grandmother's rocks.

Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks - 'Hin Ta Hin Yai'

Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks are quite famous. It is probably the most popular tourist sight on the island. I assume it's because of the nature of the phenomenon - the rocks symbolize male and female genetals and have a bit of a weird story about it.

Here's a short explanation on the sign before you go see the rocks.

That's Grandfather rock

And this is Grandmother rock. From this angle you can't really see what the locals see but the waves were crashing in the rocks and splashing a lot of water so I couldn't get close and take photos from above.

It was so windy these few days that it was hard to stay still and take photos while on top of the rocks. At least the sun was on our side this time.

With this my posts about Samui come to an end, at least for now. Don't worry though I'vve got so many more places to share so stick around for that!

Nice to look back at some Koh Samui island i was there about 4 years ago was not as quite as it would be now with covid but it certainly looks so clean and inviting , i had actually planed a trip back there last year but had to cancel you are so lucky to be there at this moment cheap and clean. I was there for a whole month and stayed at few places in my time there like Fisherman's Village in Bohput , Thongsonbay , Chaweng Beach , Silver Beach and Lemias Beach where i saw grandma and Grandpa rocks. Hope to get back there this year. Enjoy and have fun 👍

If you have time go check out Silver beach the restaurant bar is actually called Crystal Bay...here is the link to the post i wrote about it.

There isn't a better time to travel in Thailand than now really. Hotels aren't empty at all but it is mostly Thai people occupying them and they don't like going out in the sun much. Everything is so peaceful and nice. Whole beaches to yourself! :)

Wow the views are beautiful but such a shame about the wind as the pool looked great, it sure does seem very windy in these last 2 days.

Yeah it was the first month after the rainy season's officially over, so we got a bit of a chilly weather.
