Klong Chao Beach and Snorkeling in Koh Kood, Thailand

(Edited)

Hello Hive! Today I’m about to show you more of Koh Kood through our lens or at least the parts that we saw while there. We kept to the west side of the island for the most part since that’s where our resort was and it was hard to go around too much. There were so many places we visited that are worth sharing. I’d like to start with the biggest beach on the island and some say the most beautiful one - Klong Chao Beach.

Klong Chao Beach

Klong Chao Beach has quite a different feel to it than Siam Beach. There are palm trees along the whole beach line and the shore is a lot longer. There’s a famous luxury resort called Peter Pan at the very end of it. This beach can be visited by anyone and you don’t have to go through any resorts or anything to get to it. There is a resort called Tinkerbell that takes a big part of the entrance but it is somewhat on the side.

This interesting palm tree is the first thing you see when you enter the beach area. It was a great spot for some photos

We weren’t the only ones that were thinking that and got photobombed in the best way possible. I still get the giggles when I see this photo.

The resorts along the shore are basically on the beach itself. The first one had guest houses that are literally next to the water but seemed unoccupied at the time. Even though there seems like a lot of things built on the beach, it is a massive shoreline and the resorts fit quite well. It’s not heavy building but mostly wooden framed guest houses and a beach bar. There is a huge area with nothing but the beach and palm trees around.

So that's TinkerBell - the resort right at the entrance.

Fun fact - When I met Nat she was almost as white as I am. No idea if it's our travels or something else but she's far away from having a similar skin tone now. A lot of Thai people are obsessed with having whiter skin (It's a way of showing you are of higher status and don't work outside in the sun kind of thing) and fortunately Nat isn't really bothered about it.

Can you see the difference? :D Anyways about the beach - this place was a nice resting place for us and we took a bunch of photos at this fallen tree spot. The shoreline was getting tighter with some grass popping out around some of the trees. There were more sandy areas between the palms as well.

I was on video camera duty, still thinking I'm doing something with our wrongfully calibrated gimble so turned out we didn't have too many photos of the resorts. The Peter Pan resort, which is partially in that photo, was so beautiful. It was built in a way that really blends with the nature. You can see the swing and the little wooden house you can climb onto behind it. That was their alternative to the tent from Cham's house.

I really wish we had an extra day or two on the island because we never managed to go for a swim in any of these beaches. It's hard while carrying 3 cameras and trying to do videos and photos for our traveling page. We wanted to see everything and.. well shoot everything we can. That left us with very little time to enjoy the vacation to the fullest. This next activity though we did enjoy to the maximum.

BB Divers Snorkelling and scuba diving trip

IMG_7992.jpg

Remember my previous post where I told you we’ll be seeing the red boats again. Well it’s time for that! On our 3rd day on Koh Kood we had a day trip with BB Divers which is the company doing snorkeling, diving and scuba diving activities on this side of the island.
We got picked up in the morning by a british guy - the owner of the company and captain of the ship. We already knew where their office was because we went past it the previous day when we went to Siam Beach.

This is how it looked outside. We had to fill some forms here before we proceeded to the beach.

At BB Divers we were welcomed by a bunch of foreigners. It’s common for diving schools and tours to have more foreigners than Thais, which always was weird to me. It’s really hard to set up a company as a foreigner in Thailand and usually you need 4 thai employees per 1 foreigner in a company. Always wonder how did these diving schools around the islands do it.

Anyhow the crew was from different places - we had an Italian guide and a girl from Israel that was a photographer. There was only 1 Thai person from BB Divers on the boat with us. The whole crew was really nice and fun to be around but most of these activities around the islands have rather fun guides.

As we travelled to our first destination we could free roam around the boat and take some photos. The weather was a bit dull and it was actually cold on the boat. We were on the top floor and the wind was having it's toll.

IMG_8018.jpg
And ofcourse we took the little red boat with us. :)

The trip was quite long until we got to the first spot - I think it took almost an hour to get there. This is the first snorkeling activity that offered us fins so we gladly took them for some extra speed. Unfortunately I couldn’t find our snorkels because we moved to a new house right before our trip to Koh Kood. They were stuck somewhere in the bags and boxes and I didn’t manage to get to them before we had to leave. That left us with the snorkels offered by the tour and these are usually never great. This time wasn’t much different - goggles are usually the problem since they get foggy or get filled with water. Mine filled with water and then got foggy.. So double the comfort.
Another thing affecting the visibility was the sea being a bit restless on the day and the sun being covered by clouds for most of the day. That made the water a bit less clear and with less light, you can’t see well deeper below you.

That's the first spot we stopped by. We were told we'd stop by 2 or 3 places depending on the weather and time. We only did go to two but it was quite nice.

Did you know fish are crazy for watermelon? These fishes are quite common all around Thailand. We first saw them way back when I first visited the country and went to Phi Phi.

Even with all these things in the way, the experience was still great. The environment was so different than any of the other places we snorkelled before. There were corals we’ve never seen and some interesting stones and statues underwater.

After the first dip we had lunch on the boat and then headed to our second destination. That one was quite far away and we were getting quite cold because now we were wet from the snorkeling as well. The second place we stopped at was quite unique. The rocks there were different but there were also statues in tha water which I didn't quite understand the origin of. My assumption is that they were being transported and accidentally dropped. The one that was most interesting was an elephant statue covered in corals.

These corals were so different from all the ones from other places we've been to before. It's so interesting to see how unique the underwater world is in different areas. Yes a lot of the fishes we saw were present in other places but there is always something that we see for the first time.

So by the time we got to the elephant my goggles were so foggy I could barely see anything. Nat asked me to take a video of her swimming around the elephant statue and I couldn't even see where it was. It's good that she went around it and took some photos so I can see what it was after we got back. :D

And here's some more of the surroundings

The third place we never went to was an old ship wreck of japanese ships. It would've been interesting to see but hopefully next time we go there, the weather and time will allow it. Today I'll leave it at that and continue and hopefully finish the Koh Kood trip on my next post. Next time I'll get away from the beach and take you to the inner parts of the island with it's waterfalls and interesting restaurants. Hope you enjoyed this water journey and will stick around for the next one to come! Have a great weekend everyone and I'll see you around!
