WHITE CHRISTMAS in TARAS SHEVCHENKO PARK, UKRAINE. (Міський сад ім. Шевченка)

This year gave us a white Christmas, which came off as a pleasant and very welcomed surprise.
I bet you'll love the brilliant evening it was and hope you had an amazing one.

In proper celebratory fashion, I headed out to the famous freedom square, where most of the bigger celebrations are held. Just east of the square is the, now remodeled, Shevchenko park.

The park welcomes you with a majestic monument. It pays homage to the crucial role everybody, starting from mothers to soldiers, had played in the war and the upbringing of the society. And of course, at the top stands Taras Shevchenko.

Right behind the monument begins the lavish decorations.
These are new installations. They have never been erected in the past years.

The snow below and the dark night sky above really let these lights shine in all glory.
It was extremely beautiful in person. So many people posed along them and took pictures with their families.

After some time there, I decided it was time to head to the main attraction.

So, lets go there together. You can tag along. The grounds are paved just enough to walk.

Lo and behold, the giant Santa riding a rocking reindeer!

This Santa was genuinely exciting. It stands almost 20-25 feet tall. Glowing in brilliant colors.
What a majestic feeling!
You wouldn't believe if I told you it actually was rocking. Check out the GIF at the top of the post.

This place is usually a fountain in the summer. In my honest opinion, this is the best use of it in the winter.

Standing at the heart of the park, it was almost hypnotic. It attracted so many people towards it. Watching it rock back and forth, spreading the joy of Christmas through its bright lights. I felt like a kid!

The lights around the Santa added such a nice effect to the entire display. Out of curiosity, I climbed in to see what the mechanism was. It is a real rocking structure simply held and pushed with a mechanical hand hidden in the small black box behind.

I quickly got out before the people got angry. I am not a welcomed photobomb.

It was very hear warming to see children point at the giant Santa and pull their parents by the finger. So eager to get close to it and constantly say the obvious, "Mama, look Santa!!". They played around the snow, some even danced with their parents to the music Christmas music playing on the speakers.

Many people just kept walking in circles around the display, chatting up their partners, laughing, enjoying the white Christmas. Some stood and posed, as they captured pictures to brand this memory forever.

The entire park had a lot of beautiful decorations scattered all around. There were light displays of all sorts.

I specifically loved the animals made of light. There were golden ones, white ones, big one and small ones. There were horses, reindeers and what not.

These reindeers look so beautiful. Don't you think?
I love the creativity that went into these. The white christmas really brought out the best in these displays. Others just stood and admired the lights while vibing to the music.

People lined up to capture pictures with these. Some even made tiktoks.

The infamous giant teddy bear

The reason I say the teddy bear is because we have seen it many times now. Most commonly during Valentine's.
This time around it was dressed for the occasion. Red and golden. And to make things right, the music in the park was controlled through the drum set beside it.

I would go as far as to say that this was the park's disco for the night. People danced in front of it. They made a ring of humans and danced to the beat. Kicking, flaring and jumping.

Some tried fidgeting with the music. Others took pictures of it. The dancers weren't shy at all, typical Ukraine style. They pulled people around them and took them along for the dance.

The brilliant light structures

Have you seen the lights around? Lets take a closer look, shall we?

There were such portal-like mini gates, built perfectly in height to make beautiful picture frames. It was a crowd favorite. They were scattered around the entire park and made the park a little more beautiful.

These tree-like shining lamps were everywhere. They resemble plants from the movie avatar albeit I like to call white christmas trees.
Obviously, it grabbed a lot of attention and people were more than happy to spend a few minutes admiring them and taking pictures with.

The park has several sitting areas. Although they have turned into snowball battle arenas for the kids, now. The entrances to the sitting areas where also lined with the portal-like lights. They are so pretty up close.

How could you have a Christmas themed decoration for the children without Frozen?
Amirite?!

For the children there was a special display with Olaf from Frozen. You better believe it, the children loved it! They hugged Olaf. They ran in circles. They danced with him. They ran through the display and what not!

But, it wasn't just the children. The adults partook in engaging with this display, too.

We are almost at the end of this journey.
It was a beautiful evening, don't you say? We walked around the park. We took plenty of photos. We danced to the music. We became part of people's memories. We enjoyed the smiles and laughter. We even got pelted by snowballs.
What an evening!

The snow really helped bring along the feeling of a wonderful white Christmas.

Lets take one final look around and head to the square. That's where the real celebrations are!
