Today was a nice day to take a cruise on the Chao Phraya River beautiful blue skies and no local crowds or tourist in Thailand due to the covid-19 restrictions of travel made it a very pleasant day i decided to take the taxi boat and take myself to the Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan or Wat Arun also known as the Temple of Dawn.

The Chao Phraya River is the major river of Thailand it runs through the center of Thailand for a length of nearly 380 km , the historic quarter of city is located on the banks of Chao Phraya river along this river you will see spectacular temples, glorious Buddhist monasteries, local markets, museums and the Grand palace are on the side of the river, so a boat ride on Chao Phraya river will be a great way to explore it.

As a tourist in Bangkok the best way to see the main icons along the Chao Phraya River is to buy the full day hop on hop off ticket will be a good option, costs around TBH 200 ($6 US) The boat stops at all important places, and the temples/ markets are within walking distance from the stops , Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Grand place, China town, Flower market etc.

If you just want to go to the Temple of Dawn you can take a taxi boat from the Sathorn Pier it will cost you TBH 15 (50c US) and you are there in about 20 mintues is the way i went today because it's the only desination i wanted to get to so i could spent a few hours here looking around the grounds of Temple of Dawn.

On arrival to the Temple of Dawn there is a small fee of THB 50 (less then $2 US) to enter. This is easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok the architecture and the fine craftsmanship with the millions of mosaic tiles perhaps, the hundreds of stairs going everywhere you could spent hours here just admiring this temple.

If you wish you can climb the central prang the steps are very steep there are railing along the way to support yourself but it can be very tricky especially coming back down unfortunately it was not open for climbing today but once at the top you will get the most amazing views of Bangkok city and the winding Chao Phraya River.

The Temple of Dawn was built by King Taksin in the Ayutthaya period starting in 1768 before then it was home to the Emerald Buddha but then become home for King Taksin after fighting his way out of Ayutthaya, which was taken over by a Burmese army during the battle of the Burmese and Siam war. It was said that King Taksin marched his army to this temple to recuperate before taking back Siam (Siam is Bangkok today) by conquering the Burmese army.

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan will not be labelled as Temple of Dawn for nothing the best time to capture it's beauty is during the Dawn when the sunset has almost fully fallen it's just captivating and the lights come on reflecting of those millions of mosaic tiles it's just breathtaking something you will never see any where else in this world.

Such an awesome post. I love all of the pictures. Bangkok was such a cool city to go exploring. I wish I knew about the cheaper boat taxis while I was there. My wife and I got a private boat to ride around the river.

I knew the minute I saw this one, it was going to be a winner!! This temple is such an amazing piece of history and architectural interest! Just look at the cityscape that it is part of. It dominates the scene and rightly so.

That is quite the name. I am sure that is how you say the name in Thai. My tongue stumbled over it about 1/3 of the way through it. Isn't it nice when you don't have to fight the crowds, for a change? I love it when any of you living in Thailand take me along the river, in the boat or on foot. It has the most amazing life in the whole country. It isn't all pretty, there are some lesser sections, but, to me, it adds the charm and flavor to an amazing country. Of course, who doesn't love the Grand Palace? I am so jealous!!! Your Hop-on, Hop-off is $6.00???? For the Washington, DC area, it is $44.10, although, bus tours are operating a reduced hop-on, hop-off service, still passing by all the famous sights and landmarks.

I had never heard of the term mondop, but, I am glad you told me what it is. Every piece of information is absorbed by your readers. The ancient art of their culture is fascinating. The temple itself defines the skyline of Bangkok. The structure is different from the other ones you have shown, it is absolutely breathtaking, I cannot imagine being in its presence. It is truly majestic with the touches of gold, everywhere, the halls lined in golden Buddhas. I cannot thank you enough for such a wonderful post. Thank you so much for taking part in #MarketFriday! I am so pleased to see you here and I will admit that it is fun to go through these posts and have so many different cultural experiences. The amount of time and effort put into posting in this challenge is not a secret. One of the reasons I have so much appreciation for those that do.

There have been some really interesting ways that #MarketFrday has been presented, all of which adds all the more charm to the mixing bowl. The challenge points out our differences, but, then, it also shows many things our cultures share. When the day is done, it shows off how human we all are and how we basically all care about our families and others. I love the experience of it all. I appreciate the love and support given to #MarketFriday! Thank you! Truly! Your participation adds a piece of your world, and I have to say, people are interested in is seeing it. This entire challenge has opened up the world to me and so many others. Thank you again for being a part of all this! I hope you have a fabulous day! Hive on!!

You are certainly right @dswigle this temple dominates all i was there for hours admiring the craftsmanship and the designs of this temple i could never imagine how much time has gone into putting this temple together and the ongoing maintenance it is a true gem of Bangkok.

This is one reason i like to live and stay in Thailand "Your Hop-on, Hop-off is $6.00???? For the Washington, DC area, it is $44.10" it a joke it's the same in Australia with there pricing 🤔

And i am really happy to see you enjoyed looking at this temple i knew you would i was , i was hearing all the WOW's from when i was photographing this temple 😅

Have a great week @dswigle take care and be safe 👍
