Bangkok Temples , Bangkok Streets and Bangkok Street Markets.

A beautiful sunny day in Bangkok city yesterday so i decided to continue my journey along the Chao Phraya river this river runs for almost 400 km through the heart of Bangkok there is so much to see on this river that it never gets boring and it's the easiest and cheapest way to see the city of Bangkok just take the local taxi boats from any pier along the river costing you maximum 15 to 20 baht ( 50c to 80c US ) yesterday i traveled 15 stops from Sathorn Pier to Thewes Pier for 15 baht i hopped of at Thewes Pier because i wanted to walk the Dusit Area where google map was showing me that there were about three Temples in this area all in walking distance from each other from the pier and this is what i wanted to see apart from exploring the area and seeing the local street life in this area.

It was a nice smooth ride along the river only a couple of tourist and they were empty as there are still no tourist in the country which makes getting around quicker with no crowds it took about 30 minutes to get to the Thewes Pier enjoying the views along the way against the beautiful blue sky.

Getting of at the Thewes Pier i set my google map and it was telling me 15 minutes walk to the first Temple that i wanted to see so over the river canal bridge i went a couple of lefts and rights through the local alleyways and i was there google didn't lie to me...lol 😊

Just love looking at all the architectural design and colors of these Temples after walking around this Temple i set my google map for the next Temple which was going to be about another 20 minute walk from where i was and this was going to lead me along the river canal and to my surprise there was a local market here that i had to walk through i was the only foreigner in this market been so far away from the tourist areas but this is what i like to see , i love getting of the beaten tracks.

dsc07486.jpg

dsc07489.jpg

dsc07493.jpg

Anyone for barbecue frogs it's a specialty here in Thailand 😂

dsc07495.jpg

dsc07499.jpg

I came out at the other end of this market onto a big main road and google map told me to turn right and head down this main road for about 500 meters where i would find the next big temple , i wanted to see this temple because apparently it has the tallest standing Buddha in Thailand so it was going to be interesting to see , i have seen the longest lying down Buddha but never seen the tallest standing up Buddha.

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_059.jpg

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_057.jpg

Found the entrance so down the alleyway i went.

dsc07501.jpg

dsc07506.jpg

dsc07504.jpg

Love small alleyways this is were you see the real Thai culture like out door kitchens.

dsc07505.jpg

dsc07515.jpg

Coming out at the end of alleyway to a big opening i could see part of the temple surrounded by this high marble walk , i followed the marble wall which lead me into the temple and i was greeted by a little kid trying to do a head stand on the marble floor 😂

Wat Intharawihan is a lovely tranquil place in the heart of bustling Bangkok (40 baht entrance fee).

dsc07519.jpg

This Temple looked immaculate they had nice lush gardens to look like farm land.

Even had a coffee shop on the Temple grounds.

Then as i turned around here it was i couldn't believe my eyes this golden Buddha standing so tall and powerful , i focused my eyes on his feet and starting moving my eyes slowing up to his head it must have taken my eyes about 30 seconds to reach the top of his head , i was really blown away totally astounding to see this Buddha standing so tall in front of you the Buddha stands 32 meters in height and 10 meters in width definitely breathtaking.

They call this the Wat Intharawihan or Wat Intharavihan it is a Third Class Royal Wat. The Buddha statue known as Luang Pho To or "Phra Si Ariyamettrai" that was erected on the inspiration of the still highly revered Abbott Somdej Toh. This is one big impressive standing Buddha that rightly is the center of this temple. It helps remind ourselves that we are a small part of this universe.

There is much history and much to see around the grounds of this Temple although it is not a huge area it is quite compacted with other temples even a small museum and a lovely Koi fish pond with very colorful Koi fish some of these colors , i have not seen before they were really amazing colored Koi Fish.

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_125.jpg

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_126.jpg

There were many smaller Buddha's around were you could sit and meditate if you wished to do that.

They also have a cremation temple most Thais with there Buddhist religion prefer to be cremated and ashes put around the temple grounds in a urn placed in glass cabinets.

After spenting a couple of hours admiring this beautiful temple it was time to move on and make my way back to the Thewes Pier , i decided to take the back way out through the alleyways and see where that would lead me much more intresting then taking the main road agian.

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_237.jpg

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_255.jpg

dusit_temples_bangkok_spet_2020_258.jpg

And i was out of that alleyway back on the main road by the river canal but over the other side where all the street vendors were set up for the evening for all the locals to come and enjoy there evening meal , i just love street food vendors in Thailand it has the best of everything and the best taste.

Making my way across the intersection to the pier on the other side of the river canal across the other side of the intersection i see a huge flower maket that ran all the way along to the Thewes Pier amazing plants , flowers , pots and gardening equipment how cool was this street flower nursery market.

NOTE: Please forgive the not so personal reply that you normally get from me. Although I have enjoyed them, I unfortunately have a family funeral to attend on Friday and I have been preoccupied at the moment. Please understand that it was the unexpected death of my brother, who was young, and it was before COVID, but, he was waiting to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. COVID put his burial off, and now I get to relive it all over again. :/ He will be buried on Friday, with full military honors. There will be no #MarketFriday on Friday October 2. However, if you put one up, or it is scheduled, I will get to it as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding.

#MarketFriday loves you!

PS!!!! The BBQ frogs grossed me out!!! LOL
