Dangerous Excursion to the Devil's Bridge, Cinte Tesino - Trentino Alto Adige - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

I was driving home, I had just finished a nice excursion to Pieve Tesino and I noticed with the corner of my eye a sign with the words "Ponte del Diaolo" (devil's bridge) and I thought how cool! I had to go see it.

I thought: come on, I'll just have a look and then I'll come back calmly...

The road became increasingly narrow and steep...if I had met a car coming from the opposite direction would have been a mess!

Stavo guidavo verso casa, avevo appena concluso una bella escursione a Pieve Tesino e mi sono accorto con la coda dell'occhio di un cartello con la scritta "Ponte del Diaolo" e ho pensato, che figata! Dovevo andare a vederlo.

Pensavo: dai, do solo un'occhiata e poi ci tornerò con calma.

La strada diventava sempre più stretta e scoscesa.
Se avessi incontrato un'auto venire dal senso opposto sarebbe stato un casino!

While I was walking along the road I was already half repentant, I was doubting that I had done a stupid thing, the last part of the road was stony, not suitable for my car, but in the end I had reached a kind of parking and got out of the car I got into the path...

Mentre percorrevo la strada ero già mezzo pentito, mi stava sorgendo il dubbio di avere fatto una stupidata, l'ultimo tratto di strada era sassoso, non adatto alla mia auto, ma alla fine ero arrivato a una specie di parcheggio e sceso dall'auto mi sono infilato nel sentiero...

I was parked in a deep gorge, the phone had no signal and the signs I passed had names that were not very reassuring.

The path was narrow, there was not a soul, I felt alone.

I couldn't even check the itinerary on the internet.

I admit that I was a bit worried, I also had my thoughts fixed on the way back, I was afraid that my front-wheel drive car would not be able to climb the road of stones.

But now I was there and I moved on, there were still a few hours of sunshine available.

Il sentiero era stretto, non c'era anima viva, mi sentivo solo.

Non potevo nemmeno controllare l'itinerario su internet.

Ammetto che ero un po' preoccupato, avevo anche il pensiero fisso sulla strada di ritorno, avevo paura che la mia auto a trazione anterire non ce l'avrebbe fatta a salire sulla strada di sassi.

Ma ormai ero lì e sono andato avanti, c'erano ancora alcune ore di sole a disposizione.

The trail was nice, if it were all that easy, it would have been perfect.

Then I came to a really beautiful stretch with the widest path, the wooden fence and a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape.

And then, as if that weren't enough, descent again...lower and lower.

I was nervous because it was not the time to start another excursion on the same day but I was too curious! Who knows what the Ponte del Diaolo would have been like!

Ero nervoso perchè non era il momento di iniziare un'altra escursine lo stesso giorno ma ero troppo curioso! Chissà come sarebbe stato il Ponte del Diaolo!

The path became more and more steep and slippery due to the water coming down from the rock face on the side.

Il sentiero diventava sempre più scosceso e scivoloso a causa dell'acqua che scendeva dalla parete di roccia a lato.

Every 10 meters I said to myself: A few more meters and then I'll go back! But I couldn't do it...I thought maybe just a little while, it would be a shame to give up right now!

Beyond this sign the path was even narrower, in some places I was forced to take steps one foot in front of the other to continue.

Oltre questo cartello il sentiero era ancora più stretto, in alcuni punti ero costretto a fare i passi un piede davanti all'altro per proseguire.

Here where there were these rocks with those holes, I thought: I have to be careful. If a frightened animal suddenly comes out I could lose my balance...I was super careful, if I got hurt who would have found me in a place like that, without internet?

Fortunately, a few meters further on I was forced to stop, the path, just 40 centimeters wide, was blocked.

I thought better that way, I don't have to bullshit! So slowly I went back up all the altitude difference I had done.

Per fortuna pochi metri più avanti sono stato costretto a fermarmi, il sentiero, largo appena 40 centimetri, era bloccato.
Avrei dovuto trascinarmi per terra per passare.

Ho pensato meglio così, non devo fare cazzate! Così piano piano sono tornato indietro risalendo tutto il dislivello che avevo fatto.

Before you can think of taking this path, I advise you to do it without children because it is not safe.

Some stretches you walk directly on wet rock and it is easy to slip and get hurt.
