Noise cancelling headphones

I love my noise cancelling headphones, and here's why.

I've owned my Sony WH-1000XM3 noise cancelling headphones for a while now. I bought them, because they came highly recommended and are supposed to be one of the best out there. I can't compare, but I can say they do indeed work very well.

The noise cancelling works without having to put on music, so all you'll hear is a teensy weensy bit of static. People describe it as a waterfall from far away. When you do put on music, the quality is great! I also love that I can make calls with these headphones. They work through bluetooth, but there's also a cable if you want to go old-school. You charge them through USB and afterwards, they work for many, many hours. Again, supposedly one of the best. You can decide to let environmental sounds in and adjust the amount of sounds you want to hear, so they work fine as regular headphones too.

Noise cancelling headphones are perfect for noisy environments when you just need to shut everything out. It's good for concentration at work (whoever thought of open-plan offices should be deeply ashamed), or at home to ignore your family (I'm sure you have your reasons!). Heck, even while walking outside, although I'd suggest letting environmental sounds in for safety reasons.

For me though, I love these headphones the most during my migraine moments. At such times, everything is too much, even the birds. So I put on my sleeping mask and these headphones and shut everything out. It's a blessing.

If you're a highly sensitive person, or if you suffer from migraines, noise cancelling headphones might be a great option for you.

How about you?

  • Do you have noise cancelling headphones?
  • Do they work well for you?
  • When do you value them most?

Yes I have wireless set (Bowers & Wilkins) and my wife is always taking them ;)

I love the sound but do not really use noise cancelling as it is quiet here already (no kids no trafiic).

I use them with ANC when the TV is on and I wanna listen to music or youtube

Oh that's a great use for them aswell! Here, hubby uses his headset to do some gaming while I watch tv, so we don't bother each other too much. I do sometimes need the noise cancelling during the migraine days to avoid his keyboard action ;-)
