Honey?
Where is all the candy I bought yesterday?
innocent look
I dunno?
stern look
Jimmy?
Hmm?
The whole bag is empty and no one else has been around.
Daddy ate it?
eye roll
I dunno, Mommy.

Robert?
Yes, dear?
Did you eat all of the candy from this bag?
No, dear. It's for a party 🥳.

Jimmy?
silence
Jimmy?
Yes, Mommy?
Daddy didn't eat that candy.
Did you see anyone else near it?
silence
cough
Maybe....

-shoes tap the hardwood floor--

Robert.
Yes, dear.
Please call the guests and let them know that the party is canceled. We have to hire a detective to find out who ate our candy.

--Jimmy starts walking towards his bedroom--

Jimmy?
I hope you can help the investigation. I hate canceled parties.

When Jimmy turns around his backpack opens.

plink, plunk, boing

A cascade of candy flows like a fountain from Jimmy's bag.

Jimmy!
yes?

What have you said it feels like when your friend hoards all the matchbox cars when you play or eats all the chocolate cookies?

scrunched eyes and pursed lips

That not all the candy is mine?
True.

Please pick them all up and put them in the bag.

Never lie or hoard food. There will always be enough food and it's much better to eat candy with friends than stay home alone.

I'm sorry, Mommy.
sniffles
-warm mommy hugs-

I forgive you. Next time ask and when I say no, it's not because I don't want you to have things. I want you to have the best things.

Sharing means you care.

Yes, Mommy.

Mommy?

What Jimmy?
Want a piece of candy? We can have a party with me and you!

I can see it all happening! My kids thankfully never went down the stealing candy route, but they tried to hoard other things! Well told!

My little grandson has taken to lifting things and then bring them back at other points. Hes 6 years old so I told his mom and dad he better learn to curb it real quick or else is gonna mean trouble down the road. Think you so much for stopping in him glad you enjoyed the little story. Just popped out of wherever lol
