A Terror From The Other Side Part #5 - A Maynia rough draft

avatar

With 2 weeks down and things almost back to normal, I am happy with some of my progress but not what I was going for. Would have been nice to be at 10,000 words right now but having a solid idea of the goal for my story, developing it as I keep typing and making it work so far is good to make up for the lack of words.

There are still two more weeks left of #maynia and though I am no longer going for the 50,000 word goal which was always a bonus, just having more motivation and keeping it after May ends is a bigger goal as is getting to the end of the novel. Total goal word count for my novel is 75,000 words roughly, then editing and ensuring it all works well together is after that with the end goal of getting my book onto Amazon through self-publishing, onto Hive to share with people yet to read it or want to read the whole book and to just be happy knowing I finished my second novel which is an accomplishment itself!

Rough draft #5

A Terror From The Other Side

The real test of course, will come on one of the Vegranar as soon as it can be found. They went inside so LM-03 was safe in the cage, then Lorek headed back to get the rifle and machete from Amial’s bedroom while she finished the coffee and checked to see if they had enough to take into town.

On his way back to the laboratory, Lorek heard the others awake in the kitchen as they discussed the cave. “Good morning all. I am going with Amial into town to find a Vegranar to test this chemical agent she created as bait to lure them in, which worked on LM-03 and hopefully the rest of the creatures” He announced before waving goodbye and heading back.

He gave the machete to Amial for protection while he kept the rifle in hand, prepared for anything. The road taken was to the left at the fork, heading back to the field but keeping out of it with the cover of houses on the Western side. All houses along the edge of this field had some destruction caused over time and degraded due to lack of care.

Both were cautious while moving around the area to find a suitable location with the creatures nearby. “Do you hear that? Sounds about three hundred metres away just straight ahead” Amial asked while stopping in place.

“Yes, I definitely heard it. Let me scope things out” Lorek said while carefully climbing the building next to them. After reaching the roof thanks to the building being damaged, he used the rifle to see if anything could be noticed. “Looks like two Vegranar patrolling the area, might be worth taking our shot up there with the chemical agent.”

Amial though for a moment then agreed to take the opportunity with high hopes of it working so no changes to the formula will be necessary and a bulk amount can be made.

Once Lorek had gotten down from the roof to join her, they set off to where he saw the Vegranar on patrol. Roughly twelve minutes of walking as they looked around but keeping caution, they had reached a nearby point and Lorek took Amial to the side near a crumbling, broken brick wall of a really old building, so she could deploy some of the chemical agent around the tree while he made some noise to attract them to the location.

“Here they come!” Shouted Lorek as he ran toward her and the tree. She took off to go hide with him as he kept running and followed close behind. After getting behind cover they saw the Vegranar jump out; “Come on you bastards and take the bait so I can get some relief” Amial whispered to herself.

Both were watching as they slowly walked to the tree with curiosity. It was working and they were happy to see it getting their attention. After a few minutes they were done sniffing about before running off in another direction to search.

“You did it, a few minutes is still enough time to get things done with haste. We will have to go back and tell the others the good news” Lorek said before hugging Amial and her hugging him back.
Shortly after starting their walk back, cries for help were heard in the buildings off to the right and up a little further. “Please somebody, can you help us? Is there anyone out there?”

Eager to help them, Lorek and Amial moved around the corner and saw three Vegranar circling a building. Looking up at the windows there are an older man and younger woman sitting there, watching in fear.

“I still got some of the chemical agent in the flask so when I throw it down at the corner of a building just between us and them, take a shot and be ready to pass the rifle and run in with the machete. You have the extra strength and speed and I can cover you for the third” Amial suggested to Lorek. He quickly assessed the options and agreed to do it so they could save these people. It was possible to complete.

He lined up in the direction of the Vegranar as she threw the flask, having it smash near the building while Lorek took the shot on one of them in line of sight for a clean headshot. The rifle was exchanged for the machete before charging in from a wider angle with the machete prepared for a swing. As he closed in the swing was made to badly wound the one at the spill from the flask while the third one leaped out from around the building to latch onto his leg and take a chunk of his flesh. Amial took a shot to hit its body while Lorek continued swinging and hacking at both to finish the job.

“Lorek!” She shouted while rushing to his aid. He was laughing at the fact one got him again. “You shouldn’t be laughing as I will have to cauterise this flesh wound back at the house. I was scared once it got you.”

“Do not worry your gorgeous face as I am okay, and we have saved them” he said before yelling out it is safe.

A few moments later after the cautious pair finally got to them and Amial had helped by looking around the building next to them, finding some cloth to wrap around the flesh wound until they get back and to stop him losing too much blood.

“Thank you so much for helping out my name is Roger, and this is my daughter Thelesa. We were salvaging for supplies which we got quite a few of around this area but got trapped before we could leave. But just us two find it hard to do a whole lot.”

“I am Amial and this is Lorek, if you help me get him back and the supplies to my place then there is plenty of room plus other survivors we managed to find.”

You've got a really good story going on here. I like the chemical agent weapon, that lures the vegranar away.
I know maynia is a lot of work! Continuing after May sounds like a good plan. I would never attempt this crazy task, but I'm glad you have.

Thanks and I am glad you are enjoying it!
It is a crazy task and I wish things weren't as hectic for me the first two weeks so I could bring much more words towards the 50k, but I still attempt getting 2 or 3 posts out a week to get writing done each week to help with motivation.
