Day 844: 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday - Prompt: revolution

This is my post for #freewrite Tuesday prompt revolution hosted by @mariannewest

Many years ago, back before I hurt my back, I used to throw a cast net. I was at the south end of the dredge hole by the big sleuth. I made a throw next to a dock and heard someone yelling at me. This cranky old man came running down the dock and yelling that I can not throw my net next to his dock. Me being me said yes I can watch me. He told me he called the cops and he has my boat numbers. It so happened the Marine Patrol was at our fish house and so was my husband, when it came over his radio about a woman cast netting. I am the only woman fisherman so they knew who it was. My husband was going for his boat, we kept them in the water back then. The Marine Patrol told him not to go over there, they will handle it. You would have thought I was starting a revolution. A county sheriff showed up he had a chat with the old fart then came down the dock to me. He searched my entire boat I had about 4 inches of ice in a cooler and he even lifted it up making sure I was not hiding anything under it. He could not find anything to give me a ticket for and found out that there was no law about cast netting around docks. That was over 15 years ago, maybe more, and from that day every fisherman calls that dock Asshole Dock.

My husband fished at Round Island today, it is about 40 miles to our south, I went back to Hobarts but this time I drove my truck down there so I do not use my motor any more than I have to. He caught 45 pounds of pompano and I caught 48 so we had a great day. His new tiller handle will be here tomorrow.

That’s quite the name for a dock but fitting for what happened with the grumpy old man.

I’m glad you and Hubby had a great fishing day.

@redheadpei That happened years ago the old man has passed on and the property has been empty since. But the name has stayed the same.

@whatisnew thanks for the prompt. We have many bad days fishing but the good ones more than make up for the bad.

Great story. You'll forever be remembered among the fishing fraternity as the reason asshole dock is so called.

@deirdyweirdy LOL I have never thought of it that way but like all the other names fisherman gave places it will die with us. I do not think many of the new fishermen know the names that the old timers gave places and was passed down to new fishermen. That died with the net ban and now anyone with a boat and a fishing pole became commercial. Yes, I am a little bitter.
