“Rápido y sucio”, estas cualidades se las puedo atribuir a las ratas y ratones, estos viven en cualquier hueco, tubería o alcantarilla. Ambientes llenos de todo tipo de bacterias, enfermedades y otros males que habitan conjuntamente con este tipo de roedores y a los que muy a nuestro pesar, estamos expuestos.
Dependiendo del lugar donde vivamos tendremos mayor o menor contacto con ellos, lastimosamente son tan habilidosos que hasta en los lugares más pulcros se escabullen en su insaciable búsqueda de alimentos. Son bastante rápidos difíciles de alcanzar por eso existen muchos métodos para atraparlos y eliminarlos, desde la tradicional trampa hasta los más sofisticados venenos.
Las áreas más vulnerables como los cerros, llenos de ranchos donde los servicios básicos escasean y en consecuencia lo necesario para el mas mínimo aseo, son caldo de cultivo para estos animales, se ha visto la proliferación de la llamada “leptospirosis”, de la cual difícilmente sobrevive una persona por ser infectada por la orina de la rata que contiene una poderosa bacteria que al llegar a los órganos, resultan seriamente comprometidos. Considero que los pocos que se han salvado son un verdadero milagro de Dios. Aunque dicen que se cura con antibióticos sinceramente tengo mis dudas, he conocido de cerca casos en los cuales de cinco uno se salva.
Hay un proverbio popular que dice que “el cerdo siempre busca su chiquero, y la rata su basurero” El asunto es que hasta en las casas de los pudientes pueden encontrarse ratas, en ellas también hay tuberías, sitios donde se pueden alojar. Por su agudo y sensible olfato son guiados a la búsqueda de los lugares donde encontrar comida, y si sumado a esto encuentran desaseo, llegan al lugar ideal para depositar toda la gama de enfermedades que transmiten, desde su desagradable pelambre hasta su terrorífica orina.

"Quick and dirty", these qualities I can attribute to rats and mice, they live in any hole, pipe or sewer. Environments full of all kinds of bacteria, diseases and other evils that live together with this type of rodents and to which we are exposed, much to our regret.
Depending on the place where we live we will have more or less contact with them, unfortunately they are so skillful that even in the neatest places they sneak in their insatiable search for food. They are quite fast and difficult to reach, that is why there are many methods to trap and eliminate them, from the traditional trap to the most sophisticated poisons.
The most vulnerable areas such as the hills, full of ranches where basic services are scarce and consequently the necessary for the minimum cleanliness, are breeding grounds for these animals, we have seen the proliferation of the so-called "leptospirosis", of which hardly a person survives because of being infected by the urine of the rat that contains a powerful bacterium that when reaching the organs, they are seriously compromised. I consider that the few who have been saved are a true miracle of God. Although they say that it is cured with antibiotics I sincerely have my doubts, I have known close cases in which one out of five is saved.
There is a popular proverb that says that "the pig always looks for its pigsty, and the rat for its garbage can" The thing is that even in the houses of the wealthy rats can be found, in them there are also pipes, places where they can lodge. By their acute and sensitive sense of smell, they are guided to look for places where they can find food, and if they find a mess, they arrive at the ideal place to deposit the whole range of diseases they transmit, from their unpleasant fur to their terrifying urine.
