Hello @mariannewest. Here's my freewrite.

Discipline A Child In Love | Five Minutes Freewrite

I have always believed that disciplining a child should take both parents, and not just one. Most times, one parent holds the discipline rein while the other may be silent or available to 'douse the fire' if an issue arises.

I know it's not easy to be a parent. I watched my parents bring up my siblings and I. Whenever we did something wrong or failed to follow their instructions to the letter, we end up being spanked as a form of correction.

There were times some of us would run to one of the parents and implore him/her to 'douse the fire' or speak to the other parent on our behalf. Lol. It was always a funny situation. Sometimes, we get lucky and our plan worked out. There are times it did not.

Such situations were always scary for me. Having your two parents angry at you or unhappy for a wrongdoing was not funny because there would be no place to run to for help or comfort. Both parents would work in tandem like a bow and arrow to carry out the discipline effectively!

I believe this is the way discipline should be handled in every household. Not a situation where one parent opposes the other for disciplining their child. It creates division in such family and may turn a child against the parent.

It takes wisdom, courage and love to bring up a child properly.

Thank you for reading. A five-minute freewrite inspired by the prompt "bow and arrow".
