This Means War - a double five-minute #freewrite!

"Oh, crap," she yelped and leapt for the bathroom.

She had to hurry. With any luck, this interview was her ticket out of living with this ginger madman and it was imperative she aced it.

Imperative.

Jenny hastily brushed her teeth, gargled some mouthwash, then spat it into the sink. Quickly tidying up her mess, she whipped out her makeup bag and groaned.

"Ugh, can't find anything in here."

Thrusting her hand into the assorted lipsticks, eyeshadows, and foundations of years past, she frantically rummaged around for something skin coloured, natural, earthy. She didn't want to look like a harlot.

Makeup wasn't something she wore often so most of it was ancient and way past their expiry dates, but they'd do the trick. She could scrub it all off later.

"Ouch!" she yelped as her shaky hand stabbed the mascara brush into her eyeball. "Whatever. Have to hurry. Have to hurry!"

She slammed the makeup bag back into the cupboard and wrapped a shawl around her neck.

"Perfect," she smiled, wincing as her mascara-struck eye began to weep. "Ugh, it'll get better in a minute."

Hurrying back into the lounge, she grabbed her portfolio and made her way for the door. There was only fifteen minutes left. She needed to get to this interview! She needed to escape Joey, the Ginger Maniac and any possible cows he brought home. It was bad enough he'd ordered a hippo off Amazon that one time. The police had been involved. She didn't need this in her life.

Looking left and right before opening the door, she made certain once and for all that Joey hadn't snuck his way back into the house without her noticing.

The coast was clear. She opened the door.

CRASH!

SPLAT!

"Fuck!"

A blob of bright orange paint dripped from her nose and fell into the puddle that oozed around her, that coated the footpath and reflected the sun, blinding her with its vibrance, the same paint that now covered the small patch of carpet as you enter the doorway.

"Joey!" she screeched.

There was no answer.

"You'll pay for this!"

There was still no answer.

The paint was in her hair, it drenched her blouse, it ruined her god-damned makeup! There was no time for this. No time for Joey Shenanigans. She had a job interview to go to. But she couldn't go looking like this.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it!" she shrieked.

Clasped in her hands was her portfolio. Paling, she quickly looked down at it. The folder was now bright orange, sloppy, and soggy. Thank God the sheets inside were plastic. Thank God she hadn't been riffling through the pages at that exact moment. Her life's work would've been ruined. Ruined. As ruined as her life. As ruined as that ginger-haired maniac would be when she got her claws into him.

She swiped a paint-covered hand over her face to remove the blobs that dangled from her eyebrows, then paused. Ginger-coloured hair. In the distance, in the backwoods behind the house.

Ginger. Coloured. Hair!

He was there. Hiding among the trees. Watching her. Giggling to himself.

"Of course, you know," she whispered to herself, glaring into the thick, dark, undergrowth at the ginger strands billowing in the breeze. "This. Means. War."

I love these two, too! Still trying to work out a novella or something involving them. Not sure what demographic would be interested, it's both childish and mature. But I will write it!! One day!!
